Splinter cell conviction no launch

I've just bought tthe complete edition of Splinter Cell Conviction. After installing and trying to run through U-play, the game doesn't want to launch. By clicking play button in U-play,it turns dark grey but nothing happens. When I then try to close U-play it tells me the game is already running, but nothing shows up on my computer. When I try to play the game without the disk, U-play says that no disk is inserted and that I should insert a disk. Does anyone know what this might be and how to fix it?

And this is why Windows is not the ideal platform for playing videogames. Sigh.

As for the solution. I read online that reinstalling and repatching the game might do it, so try that first. If that fails, the PC version of that game requires constant connection to the Uplay servers to run, and Uplay servers SUCK. That might be what it is, so... as an absolute last resort and so you can enjoy your purchase, let's say there are ways you can find on google to make that game work without the uplay DRM, but I can't go into detail here.
