I seen horseback riding, so is it like red dead redemption? I seen spells and middle ages, so is it like elder scrolls? I seen 1 on 5 melee battles, so is it like assassins creed?

Looking for a nice RPG but I can't really judge the scale of the game.

It's a combination of those. A medieval-ish RPG set in an open world (much bigger than Skyrim), involving horse-riding and hectic fights against a superior number of enemies.

Plus there's a strong story emphasis, and presumably significant consequences for our in-game decisions.

To me and from what I've seen, The Witcher 3 appear to be something good or even better than Shadow of Mordor for combat. And compare to Shadow of Mordor, it appear to be a bigger story and less combats. So maybe Skyrim + Shadow of Mordor. But with much better graphics than Skyrim.

It's an action RPG. I played Witcher 2 and loved it. One of my favorite gen 7 games. Was disappointed when it ended. Luckily the end won't come nearly as quickly with Witcher 3 cuz it's suppose to be much larger.

It's also the 9th game on Gamespot to receive a 10/10 score. So that might help recommend it.

Think of Skyrim and Dragons age and think of how a clone would look like and you have the witcher 3.

@Jacanuk: that's really not true... It's only a "clone" insofar as they are fantasy games with combat. But the lore, gameplay, combat, etc are so different (between all 3 - skyrim and dragon age really bear little resemblance to each other). Also, you know, the witcher series predates the dragon age series (and skyrim although not TES)

Yes the story is not the same, but overall gameplay, open world setting and general elements are all pretty much the same.

And the first witcher may precede Dragon Age but it does not precede the Elder Scrolls series which both dragon age and Witcher draws its "inspiration" from.

But just because it's drawing from other games doesn't mean it can't be good but imo its not a 10/10 more a decent solid 7.5

@Jacanuk: The only Witcher game that seems to be remotely inspired by The Elder Scrolls is The Witcher 3, and even then there are enough differences and improvements to keep it from looking like a clone.

Also, you haven't played it, so why are you giving it a score?

TES didn't invent open world, Dragon Age Inq. just now gave it a try (with mixed results) for the first time in its series, and the Witcher gameplay is almost nothing like either TES or Dragon Age. I really don't see the strong resemblance other than superficial "you run around in a fantasy world and complete quests and wave a sword around" (which can be said about pretty much any fantasy RPG). Really - The Witcher is very different from TES. If nothing else, the story, which is the most important part of TW, is so different and events really respond to your decisions (TES only does this in the most superficial ways).

From what I can tell if and unrealistically dark story with action game play in an open world.

During the GS interview and hands on trip to Poland Danny actually mentioned that it seemed a lot like Red Dead in the way the open world was formatted, not just in the fact that they both had horses, so i'd definitely recommend checking it out, especially since this game is so different than the others in its format and world

So you mean like most Rockstar Open world games?

Rockstar made and is still the king of making a world feel open and also keep it alive.

@Jacanuk: I would imagine that The Witcher 3 has a much better story than your average Rockstar game. Then again, I don't think much of Rockstar's writing - even their best story, in Red Dead Redemption, was mostly filler with an inconsistent tone and frequently disappearing characters.

It's Dragon Age Inquisition with more sex, and a darker story. Without the choice to pick your class, and the only weapons you can wield are the two swords. One for regular creatures, and one for supernatural creatures. So basically The Witcher 2 with an open world.

I'm hoping witcher 3 is as good as dragon dogma but It won't take away my bloodborne fascination

Or dare I say at least as good as Two Worlds (I thought was an awesome game)

I did like witcher 2

I think we're on the verge of being able to play one of the best WRPGs out in a long time. This is CDPR's grand finale send off to the Witcher series. It's getting 9s and 10 across the board like crazy. I think it's a pretty safe bet to say that they put in their all for this one, and it's showing.

Is it going to be perfect? Of course not. But it's looking like overall it's going to be pretty damn amazing.
