I'm going to rate them in context of it's release at the time.
Grand Theft Auto III - 9.5/10
Introducing a completely new genre of games. This game has benefited the most from the 3D transition.
GTA: Vice City - 9/10
Character, style, and story, in addition to a beautiful game world. That aside, no changes to the core gameplay.
GTA: San Andreas - 9.5/10
The most full, robust, and complete GTA package ever. Full of variety and content. Profound, profane and insane.
Grand Theft Auto IV - 9/10
Repetitive mission structure weighs it down, but great NYC view and comprehensive online make it memorable.
The Lost and the Damned - 9/10
Great plot. Improved pacing. Stays a bit under GTA IV's wing, but a full game at DLC price is impressive.
The Ballad of Gay Tony - 9/10
Story is weak and GTAIV is getting old at that point, but great improvement in gameplay, missions, chaos and variety.
GTA: Liberty City Stories - 8/10
Even if it was a bit simplistic, a full 3D portable GTA game portable in your pocket was awe-inspiring.
GTA: Vice City Stories - 8/10
The shock and awe was gone. The story was better, but still feels like a watered down version of Vice City.
GTA: Chinatown Wars - 9/10
Proves that the 2D GTA formula isn't obsolete and still works. The most complete portable GTA game out.
