the discs that are either purple or blue on the bottom (i forget) are CDrom (not DVDrom). They are usually older games. sometimes the PS2 laser gets worn out and has a hard time playing those games.

what you should try is puting the disc in your ps2, then carefully flip the ps2 over and hit reset. It should then work. thats what i have to do if i want to play games like NHL Hitz2002, Twisted Metal Black, or Virtua Fighter4.

Most of the "newer" ps2 games were put on a single-layer or dual-layer DVD and those games are silver on the bottom.

edit:

oh and PS1 games are black on the bottom and are also CD-ROM, so you might see the same problem. and as far as i know the ps2 slims do not have this problem, only the older PS2s.

The reason is that the laser might be getting old. You can try to clean it by opening up your PS2, it's worked for me. Just go on youtube and look up PS2 disc read error. You can just try cleaning the lense first. If you're skilled you can take the laser apart and clean it too.

If cleaning it doesn't work, as a last resort you can adjust the potentiomenter on the PS2 laser. This is a bit more technical/guess work. Basically you would increase the voltage. From what I've read on the web there are two of these. one controls the voltage for reading cds and another for dvds.

And you can tell if a game is a dvd or cd by looking at the back of the case. If it has the cd-rom logo then it'll be blue bottom, dvd games will have a dvd logo.

Your laser drive is faulty that's why it can't read Playstation 2 CD-ROM games. If you have a normal PS2 and if you're lucky all it could need is a laser adjust. (If your PS2 doesn't give any problem at all with DVD games) If you have a PS2 Slim you're out of luck and you would need to change the laser.

And yes Way of the Samurai 2 is a CD-ROM game as well Contra: Shattered Soldier which is the sweetest "blue" disc out there. ;)

blue discs just means that its not a DVD rom like the other games, actually I had this same prob with mine before I just had to replace the laser inside of it
