Sucks to hear about your console Randolph but Im going to take my chances. It should be covered for a year under manufacturer's warranty anyway.

Been playing a lot of BLOPs 2, and am ranked in the top 1000 right now. God I love new console launches, there are barely around 50k people playing this game at the moment and most of them are having problems with the aiming it seems. Oh well, Im not complaining, I was good in MW3 and BLOPs 1 but barely broke the million barrier.

S0lidSnake
This isn't meant as an insult, but I am pretty sure you would not be in the top 1000 if you were playing on the xbox. The difference in skill level would be night and day. Just the difference in skill level between the PS3 players and Xbox players is a big jump. I can only imagine the difference from a Nintendo system with a crap controller.

I know that. That's why I mentioned that i wasnt even in the top one million on the PS3 CoD games even though i had over 3000 kills and a 1+ KDR.

Anyone know how long the campaign is in BLOPS2? I played ten minutes of COD2 on the 360 in 2005, and that's been my total experience with the franchise. But this game actually looks pretty cool.RandoIph

Wow. The thing with CoD games is that you dont play them for the campaign. You play for the multiplayer. You reach level 55, prestiege then play it again.

The campaigns can be described as those onrails shooters like Time Crisis but you have control over the player. THere is no enemy A.I to speak of. They just take you through one setpiece after another. Some of these setpieces are awesome, but the rest is pretty boring. Thankfully the campaigns are really short (5-6 hours for MW games, 6-7 hours for BLOPs games) so the variety keeps it from getting boring.

Dont buy it for the campaign alone. Pick it up for the mp. Expect to get your ass kicked the first few days since people like me have been playing basically this same game for the past six years year after year but COD games are the easiest multiplayer games out there so you will pick it up fast.

So I decided to cave in and pick up a wi u before the holiday rush sets in.

You guys were right, Miiverse is awesome

I am playing it now on ps3, I think the campaign is total garbage. If you want online get it do not waste your money for this if its for single player.

Doesn't Nintendo give you an extended warranty if you register the wii u online? Maybe an extra two months or so. Edit: Wow I just found out the wii u is the ONLY Nintendo console not getting an extended warranty when you register. Wow they better not have a major issue.

Some great Pikmin 3 gameplay came out today. Man this game is looking fantastic.

The rush has been here for two weeks and yet the system is readily available.

For those who want it, getting a Wii U this holiday season should not be difficult.

As I understand it, if you broke your controller you currently have no way to replace it, save importing one from Japan I suppose.

I think you'd have to send it in to Nintendo for repair.

I punched the tablet screen last night in the midst of a 3-17 round in BLOPS 2. It's still working, but i hear some loose pieces inside the controller.

Will post my impressions with Nintendo support if it dies in the next few days.

The question is what they will do after the one year warranty expires. I am still bitter at Sony charging $150 to fix my $600 YLOD PS3 barely two years after i bought it.

The same, I suppose. Microsoft would've charged me too, but I suppose the outrage over the RRod was just too strong.

My ZombiU review:

logo-1346451489.jpg

For the last few years there have been a loud group of survival horror fans that have been yelling about how the genre has become all about action. Multiple cries about how Resident Evil is dead to them, about how co-op in Dead Space 3 will ruin everything. Personally I am not one of these people, I love my action mixed with horror but the old school survival horror games will always have a place in my heart. How pleasantly surprised I was to play ZombiU which is spiritually the closest we have come to recapturing SURVIVAL horror.

ZombiU is all about staying alive with a limited inventory where ammo and health is scarce, sound familiar. That is about where the similarities to old RE end as this is a FPS with little to no puzzles. The structure of the game is more Metroid Prime like with hub areas interconnected through sewer quick travel. As you play more areas become available and you will have to traverse old locations in some fetch quests, don't fear cause the enemy loadout always changes. The player gets objectives from a dude in a speaker which basically sends you out to these locations to get an item of some kind.

And so you leave your sanctuary and enter the zombie infested streets of London. This is where the fun kicks in as you will watch every step you take to make sure a zombie doesn't get a jump on you. The wii U pad handles your inventory in real time meaning you better have what you need on hand cause when the action gets nuts you will not have time to stop and reach into your bag to get your items. This one change in the way a game is controlled adds so much tension. I found myself running to a corner, quickly trying to move items on the screen while watching a zombie horde on the TV slowly closing in on me. The Wii U also has a radar on it which shows red dots for any kind of motion near you, think Aliens. These also pick up animals so many times you wont know when there is a group of zombies ahead or a pack of rats. It has been a long while since I have actually been scared of what may lie ahead, this game makes sure you are always on edge.

gaming_zombi_u_1.jpg

The combat is where the game falters a bit. The gunplay is decent, hard to mess up FPS controls. Zombies do not die with one head shot, many times it takes two or three which can make the guns feel a bit weak. When you have one zombie to contend with it is best to go with your one melee weapon for the whole game, your cricket mallet. The melee is garbage as you simply press the attack button in a certain rhythm to continuously bash a zombies head, repeat this ad-nauseam. There is no nuance to the melee attacks, no way to improve them, its simply the same thing the entire game which makes almost all one on one encounters a bore. The game shines when a hoard attacks and you must use your guns and explosives to stay alive. It is kind of a shame that there isn't more action since this game makes it very exciting but there I go asking for more action.

ZombiU has a great flow to it, constantly taking you to new areas and giving you more and more tougher zombies to fight. There are some truly fantastic setpieces and creepy as hell situations which will have your heart racing. My biggest issue with the game is that it feels very simple, as if this is a test game for a much larger game. ZombiU rarely takes major risks, most of the game plays the same you are always avoiding or battling zombies the same way you do from start to finish. There aren't many moments that really try to do something different with the gameplay, maybe a few moments where your radar goes out, that is as imaginative as the devs get. There are no boss battles, all puzzles are extremely basic and there is almost no side quests. For a game that offers freedom in where you can go it gives you almost no reason to do so.

One of the most touted features is how you have one life, when you die you become a different character and you leave your bag with all your equipment on your former zombie self. So you must travel back to where you were and kill the last character to get back your things. As you play other players zombies will begin to roam your game with their own loot to take. Like Demon's Souls this makes every death hurt and adds greatly to the sense of survival horror. They also have an in game message system where players can leave pre determined messages to other players, exactly like DS but in this game it is crap. The symbols you can use don't allow you to say anything meaningful so it becomes a total waste of a feature.

There is an online mode which is pretty cool where the player on the pad commands zombies like a strategy game and the other players shoot them with a wiimote. In a colossally moronic move this is not playable online. Just another reason why this game feels limited, it has such great ideas but never pushes them enough to enter true greatness. ZombiU is a great launch game has it uses the features of the wii U in innovative ways while providing a thrilling fresh new game in a genre that has needed a game like this for a long while. With some work the sequel could be one of the best games in the horror genre.

Overall Score: 8.5

 That's very true, and why I rarely play online.

If you're a kid I guess the immature behavior is easier to take, but if you're an adult it's very hard to deal with, and at least 90% of the online console community is made up of hyper-active and annoying children.

you guys should play online more often then. Because I hardly ever see any immature behavior. Maybe it's worse on the 360 which is more popular with 12 year olds who love Halo and CoD, but PS3 had some fantastic online communities with games like MAG, Warhawk, Killzone and UNcharted. Everyone works as a team, goes for objectives over kills and very rarely do we encounter **** Yes, there are times where you get someone blasting rap music or a bunch of teenagers calling everyone f*gs but as someone who has spent at least 1000 hours playing competitive online games this gen across a dozen different online games, I can say 90% of the time the community is as mature as it can get.

I've been playing CoD on the Wii U for the past two weeks, stats say i have spent 1 day or 24 hours in game, and haven't seen anyone cursing, b*tching, moaning or being demeaning to anyone. In fact, i've only seen a total of two people using mics.

It just depends on so many varying factors, and I've been in the wrong place at the wrong time more than I care to recall. I also don't just mean the babbling on mics, but the general behavior of jerks with a sole purpose to ruin others experiences and nothing else.

The worst I've come across in my limited online experiences would have to be Starhawk and Mario Kart. I've generally had good experiences on Uncharted 3 and Gears 3 multiplayer though.

Firstly, you can turn off the mics so saying "oh people give me **** online" is total bs because you can mute people. So I recon and this I have seen alot of, people do not like playing Online games because its playing with other people like myself who are competetive and they dont like it. During Uni I had several guys who didnt want to play games with me purely because they hate the idea of losing to someone else and then that person giving them **** about it even if they dont, which I never did. So when people say "Oh I dont like playing online games because of the 12 years olds calling me names..." Its actually they dont want to play online games because they dont like feeling inferior to other people. Not that they are inferior of course, but its the feeling if they loose.

Try reading what I wrote. Mics aren't the only problem. I have issues with jerks team killing, rage quitting, cheating, stealing and other bad behavior.

As far as "being inferior", I'm better than average in the games I play, so that's not an issue for me.

Miiverse has boards for every game and you can message individuals as well. So if you go into the ZombiU board you will see what everyone posted about zombiU.

For great laughs enter the sholverware game boards. Hilarious trolling going on.

It's an app that you can access ingame. The app has a bunch of different communites, one for each game. You can post there or comment on anyone else's post. You can also 'Yeah' or 'Like' a post. It's pretty cool because you can always ask a question if you are stuck in a game and get an answer straight away. Just a few days ago, I was trying to figure out how to switch the display back from the tablet to the TV and didnt want to go back to my pc and google it. I posted the question in the CoD board and got the answer within a minute. Pretty freaking sweet I must admit.

That said, the NintendoLands board has been overrun by 2 year olds who do nothing but spam the board with doodles i sh*t you not. Like ten every minute. It's pretty awful. CoD boards are much better.... not that I go looking for meaningful discussions there too often.

You also have an activity feed much like your facebook feed which compiles a list of all your friends comments and posts. It's pretty cool.

Thats the only reason why I got it tbh. It's something new. But if I hadn't picked up CoD, it would've been collecting dust already. Aside from NintendoLands, there really isnt anything new about it. There is zombieU so that's another game you can play if you do decide to get one, but not much else on the system tbh.

I knew this thing wasn't going to be anywhere near as hot as the Wii but I am genuinely shocked at how many Wii U consoles are just sitting at retailers; they are everywhere, basic and deluxe, and they really don't seem to be moving much at all.

I wonder how long before we get a deep price cut on hardware similar to the 3DS? And will that price cut move hardware?

A pricecut will make a brief sales spike but that will taper out unless if nintendo gets some good games out.

I think thew 3ds proved that once they realize that they're in deep sh*t, they can be quick to act. Damn shame Sony didn't do the same with the Vita.

Sony needs to price cut the Vita immediately. It's a cool little system but far too expensive.

As for the Wii U, what's the next big exclusive on the horizon?

Sony was already selling vita at a loss, Nintendo was making a profit on each 3DS sold at $250. There were in a better position to drop the price wiht the 3DS being a last gen handheld and all, Sony not so much.

Besides, there were quite a few $199 bundles with CoD or Assassin's Creed on Black Friday. Vita is a steal at that price.

None that I can think of unless you count Pikmin as a big exclusive. They have a Super Smash Bros sequel in the works but I doubt it's releasing before next holiday season.

Just saw this over at gaf.

Sure, ingame models wont look as good as this prerendered cutscene model but if this is what next gen has to offer realtime, I will be happy.

[QUOTE="Shinobishyguy"][QUOTE="Grammaton-Cleric"]I knew this thing wasn't going to be anywhere near as hot as the Wii but I am genuinely shocked at how many Wii U consoles are just sitting at retailers; they are everywhere, basic and deluxe, and they really don't seem to be moving much at all.I wonder how long before we get a deep price cut on hardware similar to the 3DS? And will that price cut move hardware?Grammaton-Cleric
A pricecut will make a brief sales spike but that will taper out unless if nintendo gets some good games out.I think thew 3ds proved that once they realize that they're in deep sh*t, they can be quick to act. Damn shame Sony didn't do the same with the Vita.

Sony needs to price cut the Vita immediately. It's a cool little system but far too expensive. As for the Wii U, what's the next big exclusive on the horizon?

Most likely something they haven't revealed yet. Nintendo prefers to not show off their games until they are far into development and near release. Ofcourse there's always Pikmin 3 Beyonetta 2, and the Wonderful 101 but those are all fairly niche titles.

As far as I know, Rayman Legends in March.

[QUOTE="GodModeEnabled"]Ohhh nice, I like the activity feed thing. Miiverse is pretty cool I have to admit. I would say it's my favorite feature of the Wii U.. Arrrgghh I kiiinda got some money atm and I am kiiiiiinda thinking about getting one. My main concern is the system getting sh1t on by third pary's ..... but it's so new and shiny I want one lol.S0lidSnake

There is a new Mario game you heathen! :P

Clearly NintendoLand failed as a big hook. They are in trouble since they have nothing like Wii Sports or Wii Play to attract the masses. NSMBU isnt doing much either, too much NSMB back to back (though it will sell forever and end up selling a ton, its just causing a craze like NSMB on DS did.)

I have another anecdotal case of how fvcked Nintendo has been when it comes to marketing this system. An account rep that I deal with called on me today and while shooting the breeze, we started talking about her kids and what they wanted for Christmas. She says she ended up buying them all laptops and I asked her why a game system wasn't in the cards and she said she is getting her boy a PS3 for his birthday next year. I asked her if the he'd asked for a Wii U, and she said yes he had, but that she wasn't willing to buy both a Wii and a new system to play games. I think she saw the remote and the name and figured it was basically a turbocharger for the Wii itself, not an entirely new system. I didn't even bother trying to explain it, mostly because she'd already bought the laptops, but also because it's not my job to help Nintendo out of their marketing clusterfvck.

I really DO get the impression that people have no idea still what this system is when they've heard about it. Nintendo really needs to do something to distance this system from the Wii..

I think your observation is correct. I cant remember a console release arrive with less fanfare than this. People just dont know what this is.

reminds me of the whole 3ds launch fiasco. I know not all customers keep in touch with what gaming consoles are coming out but jeesh, is Nintendo going to have to spell it out to them in big neon letters?
