This is such a hot button currently I'd like to hear other peoples opinions.

So many people get so hot under the collar about it, it's entirely blown out of proportion. Is the western world prude in a whole new way?

Do you like it? Think that it makes games feel more mature and we could use more bare boobs and bush?

Or do you think it's infantile? Pandering for attention by shock value?

What is the point of hiding the human body, we all have one. That is my point of view.

Games just need to be globally viewed as a normal form of media, instead of as a toy for kids that some adults also like. You never hear anyone complain about porno movies and the like anymore, and games should be no different.

Depends on how it's used. No reason to be shocked at seeing a nude body whether it's male or female.

If it's used well, thematically or even humorously like it is in Bayonetta than I'm good with it. There should be no reason as to why people need to be afraid of their own bodies.

Not every game needs it though. If there was nudity in a Mario game I imagine I'd stop playing. Also, games that try and use it as a selling point are worthless too, for instance something like BMX XXX. Honestly, if I wanted to play with naked bike riders..... yeah. But if it's used well and is a part of the full experience than why not?

Of course Mass Effect pisses me off. You don't just end up with all your clothes on. Just saying BioWare, you've got a mature rating, so why is it that characters just awkwardly tumble while fully dressed. Whatever. :P

I don't like nudity in any of my entertainment really. When I'm gaming or watching a movie I just want to escape from reality for a short while and/or be intellectually stimulated, and if you stick a couple of boobs in there it's hard to focus on anything else. :P

Mass Effect / Dragon Age is a good example of a game I think would benefit from more nudity. The games take such a serious aspect with everything, then make a laughable PC attempt at a family freindly, fully clothed sex scene. And as a result it doesn't come across as sexy, or even romantic, it just makes you giggle.

IF it has a reason unlike 90% of movies or games that have it I am fine. But most of the time its just nudity for nudity sake. I'd rather not.

Don't know why it's such a taboo thing in video games, these days, all things considered.

Is killing people with guns, blood, guts 'n gore a better thing for video games? Is it a more 'natural' and common thing than sex? Excuse me, wile i laugh.

I think if people against sex in video games wanna be nice 'n all, people should stop speaking bull and stop being hypocrites. A 12 year old obviously should not play a game with explicit sexual content. But at the same time he should not play extremely violent games. Go all the way if you want to be taken seriously, not what suits you. But parents ignore that.

well see thats the problem...the parents dont care/have time to pay attention/want to pay attention...they just want to blame someone(the industry)...all of the games are clearly marked with what content is them...just as movies are...if u can buy a movie with nudity from a retailer...then i believe u should be able to buy a game with nudity from the same retailer...its the same exact thing to me...and if u dont want ur children exposed to that sort of thing...then set up and be a parent...dont let them have the game...and if they complain/throw a fit...be a parent and stick to ur guns...thats what the whole thing is about...if a game says its 17/18+ then its for 17/18+ yo people...dont let ur 12 yo who just figured out what w****** off means play the game...heck...dont let them run the household...which definitely seems to be the problem these days...(i have a blog post about this on gamespot btw if u all are interested...cause i really hate the double standards that "adults" have in life)

I think nudity is handled in games better than movies, actually. Granted, it has a ways to go, but there are plenty of movies where there's nudity as a way to get teenagers to see it or something.

Obviously, given that games are pixelized that draw isn't there but I think that games with nudity feature it because it fits the plot. Mass Effect and Dragon Age desperately need more nudity as that's the only way those what-should-be-climatic love scenes wouldn't be silly.

Still, as freaking awkward as it was I found myself respecting Visceral for their design choices in Dante's Inferno. Like when Beatrice gets stabbed and her dress falls off and reveals her, it felt realistic and not at all silly with the thought that everything would be convienently covered up. I mean, there were some awkward moments with nudity found throughout hell but it seemed fitting given the source material.

Just my two cents on the issue.

I'd almost say it's the opposite - Bioware's games always seem to me like great reasons why nobody should ever put nudity in games. Their romances/sex scenes are always so silly, forced and awkward...it wouldn't end well. :P

I really do not understand America's fear of nudity: You can mow down hordes of human soldiers and still get a T-rating, but at the sight of a nipple, the game is deemed too mature. It's ridiculous.

It's accepted in TV and film where the people are real. Why should games, where the people are made of polygons, be any different?

I think there are situations where nudity is to be shown, I hate it when movies/games show you two persons in bed together and she's wearing a bra. On the other hand, nudity quickly becomes unnecessary: God of War 3 didn't need it, Heavy Rain didn't need it and Metal Gear Solid 3 sure didn't need Eva's cleavage. Most of the time it just looks like a way to say "see how 'mature' our game is, buy it"

As long as the nudity in the game is delivered maturely, like in Dragon Age or Mass Effect, like people have said. Even Bayonetta as well, I shouldn't forget to mention.

I'm 46 years old and I don't see what's wrong with nudity in games - it's in other forms of entertainment like movies.

I hear people saying that nudity is only for 12 year olds, but those people are usually 12 years old and think that not liking nudity makes them appear more mature. It does just the opposite.

The more games we see with nudity and other mature content, the more likely a parent will realize games aren't just for kids anymore.

Movies show boobs and butts and sex scenes ten times more than games ever do and people never really say anything aboiut them. But for some reason people get all weird when it comes to even a little bit of it in video games.

It all depends on how it's used, nudity has to be treated in a mature way, for example, the movie Gamer over uses nudity in my opinion the nudity in that movie is used very immaturly, however, if you look at the nudity in Red Dead Redemption for example that is short and it isn't trying to get you eroused but is part of the story.

I will go with how its used as well.

I have seen pretty adolescent behavior on a mmo, characters chasing every female they saw around. Even with a adult rating, its not as all simple as it seems with a computer screen on a game at any hour, and who is looking over your shoulder at certain given time. If not really needed, its not something I have to have, and free rein of multiple players looking to act ridiculous.

I kind of understand where you're coming from, (or atleast I think I do). Playing a computer or video game when someone walks into the room while a rather explicit nudity scene is going on could create far more awkwardness than if they walked in while a nudity scene in a movie was on.

Of course this is mainly due to the way our culture is set up, and how video games are looked down upon in a more negative light, but unless it really enhances the overall experience I don't think it's needed. Then again, it is so often unnecessary in film, so if video games want to put unnecessary and pointless nudity onto the screen they have every right too.

I thought about it, and I've decided that I really don't have much of an opinion on the matter. It should be up to the developers. It's not an issue I care too much about.

remember in the 90s when images like this made the anti-gaming crowd go nuts, lol, that's so tame by today's standards, my oh my how far we've come, it's listed as rated M and is one of the reasons we have an ESRB but if it were to come out today it could possibly be a E10+ rating, possibly T for Teen at worst

its getting better.. look at darkwatch..

bite sex.. seriously things sued to be soooo bad talking about games n nudity was a ahrd topic indeed back in lara croft 1 or older but these days its getting alot more acceptance.. amss effect, dragona ge, darkwatch are jsut a tip of an iceberg.. oblivion is another one.. heck its becoming its own classification again.. and i think i speak for alot of us when i say about time!

that being said its still far from accepted and i feel that it will improve and expand as this industry grows but it will still be questionable.. like paintings in an art gallery.

What I find interesting is how much humanity's stance on nudity has changed over the centuries. In ancient Greece, men and women exercised in the nude, and many times exercised in the same gymnasium. Now, the nude human body is a thing of disgust and impurity in a lot of cultures.

I think, much like any form of art, nudity has its place... but shouldn't be shoved in just anywhere for the sake of having it there. Using it to highlight the beauty of the human form is a good use for it... but unfortunately it ends up just being the idealized form, and not a realistic form.

I don't see what the big deal with it is. It's in movies and even some TV shows, so why is it taboo in video games? It's not like it even looks realistic or anything.

Art is an appreciation of beauty based upon the tastes of the artist and his or her followers. I feel the exact same way with nudity in games. That and I love boobs....just sayin :)

I don't really like it if it's placed in such a way that makes it seem like fan service or whatever, that just feels patronising to me. If they can put it maturely in the game then that's fine, though I don't think it's ever necessary.

Absolutely fine with it.
If it goes on like this, we will have games in EU that you aren't even allowed to view the trailers of in the USA :P

I don't mind, make them as depraved and randy as possible. Maybe I'll even play them, and otherwise I'll just play the games that aren't as dirty.

I don't like nudity in any of my entertainment really. When I'm gaming or watching a movie I just want to escape from reality for a short while and/or be intellectually stimulated, and if you stick a couple of boobs in there it's hard to focus on anything else. :P

It belongs in hentai games. I don't like it in non-smut.

I've seen peeps out there that buy their 9-10 year old a 360, mics, popular shooters, and let them do what they wanna do. I feel as if that's wrong, and it's the worst thing a parent can ever do to their kid.

Lucianu

Really, Malestation included?

A NES costs the same as a xBox 360 factoring in inflation.

My parents bought a NES when I was 6 years old -- and what was I doing? Stomping Goomba's of course - only now that sounds sorta anti-Italian.

It's really silly to assume that one or even a dozen games or movies are going to warp children into sociopaths...thats the kind of BS that blinds people to what really matters.

It's well unerstood that coddling children has more long term detramental effects than allowing for experience backed by responsible guidance.
