The Xbox 360's numbers shouldn't be falling as we get closer to Christmas.

PS3

*gasp*

And how does Halo 3 keep racking up sales numbers? Do people buy two of them per household?

So... how does the PS3 price drop play into this? I got my dates all mixed up. Hopefully the price cut was towards the end of the month or in November, because if those are the numbers after the drop, Sony is in serious trouble.

I think the price drop was during the last week of these numbers....but don't quote me on that. I'll try to find out.

Anyway what I find to be more disturbing for PS3 is the sales (or lack thereof) for Guitar Hero III. At this point GHIII is a sure-fire franchise, and if PS3 can't move significant numbers for a game like that publishers aren't going to to stick around for too long.

Quite. I'm actually surprised the Wii pushed more units than the PS2. It's not terribly surprising for the 360 to have moved the most units of the game, though, and it looks like Halo 3 is on track to get easily between 4-5 mil units sold by the end of the year in the US.

Very disappointing numbers for The Orange Box. PC sales must've dwarfed the 360 ones, I can't believe people didn't recognize just how awesome that package is. I guess Half-Life will simply never be anywhere near as big on consoles as it is on PC.

The PS3 has done very well since the price drop.  Really I'm surprised this month's numbers aren't lower considering everyone knew a pricedrop was coming.

If you combine the sales of the PS2 standalone and guitar versions it handily beats everything.

Yeah I'd be very interested to see PC sales for OB, but I doubt we'd ever get a solid number for retail + Steam combined.

Fortunately Ratchet came out towards the end of the month.  I don't mean to be doing damage control, but given the soft release date, and the official October 30th street date, people might not have even known it was out for a week before thestreet date.  Wishful thinking I know, but I hope it performs well as it is such a great game.

Yeah, if a big name title like Ratchet can't break the top 10, Uncharted will be lucky to crack the top 25 IMO.

And with Galaxy living up to everyone's wild expectations, Nintendo has officially hammered the last nail into this generation's coffin. those numbers are amazing, the fact the GH III on the Wii sold so many is pretty crazy, so much for 3rd parties not selling on the Wii. I've been playing Galaxy since last night and I am absolutely convinced that this game will define this generation, the buzz and goodwill for the game is incredible, I wouldn't be surprised if the Wii sells over 1 million in November. As for the PS3... Stringer says they've sold 175,000 in the 2 weeks since the price cut on Nov. 2nd, prompting him to gush "It's the breakthrough we've been anticipating. We've been holding our breath...Obviously, we've taken so much heat over the year on PS3. Finally, the turning point has been passed." Such praise! Great numbers there... almost 360 like :P

Wasn't R&C only out for like a week? It sold 74.5K according to GAF.

Seems pretty good. Also 105.8K of GHIII on PS3.

Yeah, the Guitar Hero III sales is a killer for Sony who use to sell the most with the PS2. Activision going multi-platform is devastating.

It was out for exactly 11 days. Although as rragnar said there might have been confusion wrt the "official" Oct. 30th date.

The PS2 version moved 518,000 copies, and the PS3 version moved 105,000 copies.  So Activision made more off of Sony Platforms than any of the others.

R&C didn't sell bad considering the time frame it had. If I did my math properly its about 10K per day for R&C compared to about 14K per day for Halo 3.

Factoring the userbase of each console thats pretty damn good IMO.

Edit: Sorry it be closer to 14K per day for Halo 3.

Sure, except console games tend to drop off very rapidly after a couple of weeks. Halo 3 is somewhat abnormal in the sense that it can remain at #1 for 2 months, but then again sales have dropped tremendously since its first week.

Damn Guitar Hero III sold pretty good on the Wii. Guess that X's out the whole "third parties can't sell on Nintendo systems". But I'm even more surprised that more PS2 units were sold overall of the 3, well since it's monthly software sales have been low lately. Ehh not surprised probably due to so many systems avalible. Also seriously VGCharts is pathetic, they overdrew the 360 sales by 200,000.

Honestly Sony is just done for this year... The main reason y they got on a road to disaster was through its hefty price at $600 when it was released. Gamers were automatically turned off to the idea of buying a PS3... At least they would have made some sales w/ gamers not knowing what to expect. There are seriously nutin for games rite now and the only two games even considering buyin would b GTA4 (delayed) and MGS4 (which is not tell like may?) and Assassins Creed (flopped)... but look at it this way....what other games does Microsoft have in store since Halo3 and all of their main games have been released is it worth buyin one??

Wow the Guitar Hero franchise sure sells, not to mention the bundle was $99 :o. I'm a bit surprised at Halo 3 staying on top, yet the game launched late September. The Ratchet numbers are a little dissapointed considering its a well known Sony franchise and one of the few quality exclusives on the platform.

I guess I was right about predicting PGR 4's quiet death  30k, seriously this was a million seller franchise with PGR2 and they decided to release it right in the middle of Halo 3's & The Orange box release :| As for the Orange Box it sold decent, but I'm sure most of the sales went to PC.

Judging by the Wii sales, and the great achievement Super Mario Galaxy has received from critics and user impressions, there's no doubt the Wii has the holiday season wrapped up. Nintendo better ramp up production on the consoles or those sales are going toward the competitors considering the price drops of both consoles.

Funny enough...Gaf is sinking thier Teeth into Part two of that story...They didn't included one system

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...d=amjWQwK2k3Bs

"The price cut and new model helped Sony increase sales of all consoles including the older PlayStation 2 to 100,000 units in the week ended Nov. 11, spokeswoman Kimberly Otzman said in an e-mail.
"

How to sum up the rest...

Halo 3 still has a bloody chance to actually surpass 5million copies sold this year.

Wii and DS Contiune on the quest of World Domination. Wii still seems to be lacking on the software side.

360 really looks like it will be the HD Gamers and Hardcore system of choice. Good hardware and good software.

PS3...All I can really say is. All signs aren't pointing in positive light. Your Guitar Hero sold about 2.5-3x less then the competition. A major IP from last gen with a marketing push and everything didn't even pass 100k.

It actually makes sense when you consider all the people that still have their PS2s and guitar controllers. Why buy the game for the Wii or 360 when you can buy it on the PS2 for cheap, and the only difference is online play? The PS3 version had the problem of not being backwards compatible with PS2 guitar controllers, so that took away any advantage it may have had in that regard. Though the 360 had guitar controllers from GH2, you just can't ignore the fact that there are still so many PS2's out there, and the graphics on modern consoles don't really matter for a game like this.

Be careful when useing "flop" terminology outside of System Wars... especially since there's a difference between a review bomb and mixed reviews. That said, GTA4 and Assassin's Creed are both on 360 as well.

Now it is comming in that it was just PS3

http://blog.wired.com/games/2007/11/sony-reacts-to.html

SCEA expects a great deal of momentum moving forward this holiday and beyond with the availability of new PS3 hardware and pricing. Based on internal data, the company is already seeing a great spike in sales with a 192% lift for the PS3 over the past two weeks.

*Wonders which one is true*

Not to mention that reviews are irrelevant; it's all in how it sells. There's many very poor games that sell due to name alone, and obviously we can all provide lists of games that got great acclaim but bombed in sales (Psychonauts, Okami, etc.). GH3 didn't exactly get spectacular reviews yet managed to sell a million in a weekend.

Nintendo continues to steam roll right along with the Wii and the DS.

The 360 should probably be doing better given the excellent library of games on the system although the system should probably be a little cheaper then what it is currently and the games on the system do sell incredibly well so I guess it's not too bad.

Halo 3 continues to pull in some great numbers although that isn't surprising. Kudos to Microsoft and Bungie.

I am wondering how Virtua Fighter 5 is doing on the 360 so does anyone know how it's doing?

How much will the 40 GB PS3 affect things? Hard to tell so far, but the first stats so far are in. Last week in Japan, the PS3 outsold the Wii 56k to 34.5k. Very interesting, given that the PS3 was slowly improving and the Wii steadily declining over there.

Well the 360 is still doing really good, I don't know what all the fuss is about, if the 360 maintains 300K or over for every single month from now on that would be an enormous accomplishment. Wrap your heads around this, the 360 has already surpassed the total sales of its predecessor in only 2 years time.

I think it has more to do with the release of the new Dynasty Warriors game than the price drop, honestly. Granted, the price drop didn't hurt, but that game is one very popular franchise over there in Japan.

True, but at the same time, Dynasty Warriors Gundam, which are two of the biggest franchises in one neat little package, didn't have the same effect. Still, for the first time the best selling home console wasn't the Wii (since it's launch obviously), and the Wii has been steadily decreasing. I guess we'll see soon enough.

[QUOTE="rragnaar"]The PS3 has done very well since the price drop. Really I'm surprised this month's numbers aren't lower considering everyone knew a pricedrop was coming.Shinoto

"

CNN has an article too.

CNN just mentions "consoles of all types", which I read as all SKUs of PS3's (80 GB, 40 GB, etc.). If it was all Sony hardware I think it would be a worse than average week, which obviously isn't the case.

Now there is a 3rd version out it seems...Looks like Sony is contradicting itself lol.

Ouch... too bad for the 360. And here some people thought it actually might outsell the wii this holiday. :)

I think that the PS3 will be up there in the November numbers. Also, COD4 sales will be insane. I seriously do believe it'll outsell Halo 3 because it is multiplat.

^^It also sold over 14 million in North America, not really sure what the actual number is.

GH3 didn't exactly get spectacular reviews yet managed to sell a million in a weekend.

Guitar Hero has got solid reviews on Gamerankings with the Wii being the highest ranked at 86%.

Considering it's going to sell about 500% more software than the Wii I think it's in pretty good shape.

When your strongest software offering month to month for the entire year is a controller with a tacked on $10 set of mini-games you have to look a bit further than consoles sold to determine who's really in the lead. The 360 is still the console to beat based on a solid year of month to month complete software dominance.

Just noticed the MP3 numbers, yikes its dying so fast, come on wii owners :( .

I'm convinced at this point, that Metroid will forever be a the biggest AAA niche franchise out there. Something just holds it back from Zelda-like popularity.
