Looking back on the awards last year, I've noticed that Overwatch has been getting so many game of the year from so many people. Most recently the D.I.C.E. Awards made Overwatch game of the year. My questions are why, and how? The game is multiplayer only with no story mode which made the characters entirely one-dimensional and are just there for the sake of being there. That made it hard for me to get invested in this game and take it seriously. Now other games like Uncharted 4, Doom, and Titanfall 2 had memorable single player story experiences, yet they ignored and pushed to the sidelines while Overwatch hogs all the glory. Plus the more I think about it, the more it makes my head want to explode. Just, why?

While I probably wouldn't pick it as my GotY it is an excellent game and I can certainly see how others would pick it as their GotY.

Because it's called Game of the year, not single player of the year.

Well this is how it is ... but it is sad that this game won't be playable in 1.5 year when the servers will be shut down.

If they did something like Unreal and put those mode playable offline with bots or with a second player ... the game would be much better for it but no.

You realize Blizzard titles are some of the best-support, longest-living, most active and longest-played games, right? Not to mention the popularity in e-Sports titles.

*Anyway, not an Overwatch fan, but in defense of Blizzard

@mrbojangles25: But on consol this game will be a dead weight in a matter time because it is only online.

All the game you listed are on PC and also playable offline including multiplayer focused maps ( in the case of Star Craft and War Craft )

Overwatch is much more like StarWars Battlefront, dead weight in a matter of time but on PC even if Blizzard kill the server people can still create their own servers.

It does suck. If you like repetitive arena shooter then I sure it is good but I do think it limitation should be taken into account.

It has no meaning what so ever.
