They will move into the smaller developers within Maxis. The main developer of Spore, Simcity and Sims has been shut down

To be honest they hadn't made a good game in a long time. Hopefully the staff manage to find new jobs.

Its not Maxis as such that are closing , its just their studio in emeryville

They still have maxis Melbourne, Helsinki, redwood shores and Salt Lake City.

But it looks like EA will close down the brand Maxis and move into other departments like The Sims Studio.

It's just Maxis Emeryville, there are other Maxises that are continuing to work on Sims 4. Also:

After Spore, Darkspore, Simcity and Sims 4 it's clear Maxis in general isn't the same one people learned to love back in the day.

Meh... Maxis was shut down years ago. I have a strong feeling that the brand was only brought back as a bit of a PR move, as Sim fandoms were becoming increasingly dissatisfied with EA's products and claiming that it was all because Maxis and Will Wright were no longer in charge.

But one look at the disaster of the most recent Sim City and the disappointing The Sims 4 and the brand obviously hasn't brought back any of that magic.

Update 5:42pm: An EA representative emailed us to clarify that the Redwood Shores location of Maxis, which is responsible for The Sims, remains open and will continue to provide support for The Sims, SimCity: Build-It, and other properties.

I mourned this studio the day EA acquired it, as I mourn for anything EA touches that I care for. They are literally death incarnate for the companies they purchase and I'm shocked they can still procure acquisitions considering their rep. But so goes the allure of the dollar.

Now, I mourn for those that lost their jobs. Best of luck guys, and thanks for all the great memories growing up!
