What gender of characters do you find yourself playing as more in fighting games? The males or the females?

For me, it's the female characters. I generally find them more enjoyable to play as. My mains in fighting games almost always consists of female characters.

80% of the time I choose to be a female character.

Male. I guess it just feels more natural for me to play as my own gender.

I guess they do so because the creators themselves are males?

No apparently they do it to sell it...

but I don't buy games to look at women's boobs/butts/hips/whatever, I buy games to play on them...

Am I the only one who's not bothered when female characters wear revealing outfits? Yes, they can be seen as pervy, but dang, I always thought it brings a more fantasy vibe to some games, as there are female characters who dressed like that in old RPG's.

I for one sure don't mind it. Juri and Litchi are just one of the cases in point.

Yeah, I don't buy them that either. It is a nice bonus though.

I agree. I don't mind them at all. In fact, I like it when the hot girls in fighting games dress that way. I never understood why a lot of people seem to hate that.

For the most part, females.
#21 Posted by MadVybz (2797 posts) -

It depends entirely on how the characters play. I'm not really discriminate, it's just coincidence that most characters I prefer are male.

#22 Posted by meand40thieves (14 posts) -
Being a male I would prefer playing as the same.
#23 Posted by mashoor183 (616 posts) -

Well since I usually like playing as the characters with the fiercest attacks, i usally play as the male ones. Also its because im a male myself and it feels more natural

#24 Posted by Sahle123 (115 posts) -

Mmm...

I don't really care to much about the character itself. As long as I'm comfortable with the style he/she fights in, I'll take 'em. :P

Thanks to Alisa Bosconovitch females a lot more (if you can call an android a female...). They're just so much nicer to look at. ;) Plus they usually move pretty fast.

I enjoy playing grappler characters (Zangief, Potemkin, Jeffry McWild) which is an almost exclusivly male-dominated role in fighting games.

That would be male for me .. :DD

I choose female. I can make them fashionable clothes and accessories.

yah. correct.!

You mean to tell me those hands holding the gun in a FPS have a gender? ...and that my "sky view" in a RTS is also influenced by such a thing? Psh. If it's a arcade style fighting game, I usually choose the sexy block of wood.

Yeah, nice how games like Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur V have options for that. I have gave some female characters my own customs in those games. Interesting to see that "Female" has more votes now too.

Definitelly males. Never liked females in the fighting games. They're ok for Survival Horor, especially Heather in Silent Hill 3, and Jill Valentine in the Resident Evil series, but as far as fighting games go, I'd always rather pick a male, than a female. They have better special moves, better combos, etc. I just feel like they don't do as much work on female fighters as they do on males. Plus I remember playing Mortal Kombat II on Genesis, Mileena always used to kick the living **** out of me if she was high on the ladder, they made it impossible to beat her from the first try, so she always broke my streak. Perhaps I have some hate growing inside of me because of that, hahaha. :D

#35 Posted by dragonps (1667 posts) -
Depends really on the style of the character, in some games I main a male character in others a female one.

I for one don't like it because it feels like a cheap way to sell. Remember this was even a selling point of games like Dead or Alive. That's insulting to both genders. In interest of staying on topic: I choose male characters as I prefer the slow and strong fighting styles that are usually exclusive to them.
#38 Posted by Tikeio (5332 posts) -

Being a female, I usually choose female characters.

They're usually quicker, have more unique fighting styles and have the best character designs (excluding that crappy Boobs or Alive series).

Lets see...off the top of my head - Ryu and Sagat for Street Fighter games, Andy and Mai for King of Fighters games, Mileena and Skarlet for Mortal Kombat games, Seung Mina for Soul Calibur games, Morrigan and Iron Man for Marvel vs Capcom games, and Nina Williams and Kazuya for Tekken games. Wow! That was close....so I would say female. :D

Females, mostly. A lot of times they're the fast characters or the zoning characters (hooray gender roles in video games), which is what I usually like to do. Sometimes I'll try to work for a character if I like the character enough, but most of the time I want the character to work for me, and the kind of gameplan I like to play is usually best played by female characters.
#41 Posted by YEPEE00 (1029 posts) -

i play all most all females now. it seems i tend to "bond" with female characters the longer the series goes on.

In Tekken series: Females

In Soul Calibur Series: Males

its 50-50 for me
#44 Posted by PlayBox39 (420 posts) -

Male all the way baby!

#45 Posted by meedokicky (263 posts) -

Females. but for me, it has actually less to do about them being female and more about their fighting style.

Usually the women are faster and more agile, so that is what I prefer.

Females - 70% Males - 30%

probably 50/50.

I play males more since I suck at using female characters. If I could I would use Chun Li, Rose, Asuka, Julia Chang and more but as stated I suck at using most of them.

Usually choose male fighters, but depends on their fighting style.
