As one generation closes and another opens, time to reminisce about the previous (GCN, PS2, Xbox).

-Metroid Prime: I didn't think Retro could pull off a Metroid game with the player as the camera; they nailed everything from the first person jumping, sense of solitude, exploration, music, the Samus ball, et. al.

Easily the best game I played from that generation.

Best games for me:

1. PSO Episodes 1 & 2 (Xbox)

2. Jet Said Radio (Xbox)

3. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle (GC)

4. Phantom Dust (Xbox)

5. MGS2 (PS2)

Too many fun games to just list one xD

I'd say Resident Evil 4. Not only did it breath new life into a franchise that was becoming stagnant, it also was probably the most inspirational title as well.

Spiderman 2. It broke the "licensed games suck" rule and gave me new hope for superhero games in general. It's such a damn shame that they kept trying to reinvent the web swinging wheel until it fell off. Amazing Spiderman came close, but it still just wasn't right.

Same for me. I loved Metroid Prime to pieces and certainly can't argue anyone picking it but RE4 drew me back into games in a time when I was ready to give up on them. I will always love that game more than any other for reeling me back in haha.

RE4 did nothing for me. Long f*cking game with the longest escort mission of all time. I liked RE5 a million times better.

One game of the last generation? MGS3 probably. or GTA3.

Haha that game was amazing, the only thing that felt weird was that you couldnt attack other people, which obviously is against spiderman but it did break the emersion of the game when you tried too. For me a game called Brute Force was on the verge of being rather epic. I think the thing that killed it was the lack of xbox live for it. As a splitscreen and system link game it was amazing. there were different classes with cool perks etc.

Unless I'm mistaken, SSX was the first PS2 game I got, and I loved it immensely. Hell...I'm not even sure why I didn't get any of the sequels. I know I got turned off of the most recent installment because the more "realistic" tone didn't appeal to me. But I loved SSX. It was flashy and colorful and flamboyant and stupid and just so much fun. And Jesus...I typically don't even bother with that type of game.

GTA: San Andreas. Easily up there as one of the best games ever made. Never got boring for a second and had a great story too.

Burnout 3, or luigis mansion. Maybe unusual choices but there the ones that stick out for me and I had the most fun with.

The original Fable. I just loved the setting, the artistic style, just everything. I don't know if it was my favourite game that generation (Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, GTA: SA, Devil May Cry 3, Persona 3 + 4, SSBM, Metroid Prime etc), but I'll list it because I doubt anyone else will.

Yes!! I'd completely forgotten about fable. Also one of my favourites. Playing through this was an absolute treat. Makes me wish I had a 360 so I could play the sequels.

The first one to pop into my head was Persona 3. Great game with a good story. I enjoyed that virtual high school more than I did my own.

Drakan: The Ancient Gates was probably my favorite. Wonderful action/RPG with a really likable main character, plenty of great weapons, armor and magic to upgrade, and a fantastic variety of environments. You got to fly around on a dragon too!

While still decent games, I found Fable 2 and 3 lost a lot of the charm and all round magic that the original had.

SO many amazing games. BUT if I had to list one as the best game last gen, it would be Resident Evil 4.

Honorable mentions: Timesplitters 2, Metroid Prime, Wind Waker, SSX3, Baten Kaitos Origins, Paper Mario TTYD, Super Smash Bros melee.

Odd, I felt escorting AI Sheva to be more of a chore than Ashely in RE4. Ashely would stick with you, she wasn't with you the entire time, and if she did became irritating you could just throw her in a dumpster where she belongs.

Regardless of personal opinions on the game I still think RE4 was the most inspirational game of the generation.

1. Tales of the Abyss (Still the best game of all time)

2. Tales of Legendia (I think I may have liked this game more for the atmosphere and incredible soundtrack than the gameplay. It's the odd man out in the Tales series for having random encounters and a, not bad, but not quite as amazing battle system.)

3. Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3. These games are legendary.

4. Dark Cloud 1 and 2

5. Dragon Quest VIII

6. Final Fantasy X

7. Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2

SO MANY GOOD GAMES! I can't list them all. DX I miss those days.

Pikmin: 100% unique and 100% brilliant. This combination almost never happens. My love for gaming was completely renewed because of this game.

Ace Combat 4, 5 (my favorite) and 0 come to mind as my favorites. GTA Vice City. Splinter Cell and the original Ghost Recon on PS2. I did - at the time - also really liked God of War 1 and 2.
