That's a pretty good list you have there. I would suggest also adding a Wipeout game if you don't already have one.

Resident Evil 4 is one of the best games you can possibly purchase for the Playstation 2 as it has a brilliant story with surprise appearances from old faces in the back catalogue of the series and also some of the best boss fights you will ever come across.

The voicing is decent and the dialogue intelligent, funny and thought-provoking at times.

The graphics were a spectacular achievement for the console and the sound effects are very impressive too.

The controls take a little getting used to but once you've picked them up you will be fine.

Also it is one of those games that you can replay again and again to try and upgrade your weapons and health as much as possible or just to see if you can beat your last record for time completed, deaths etc...

The cutscenes don't feel like they go on forever which is great news for the inpatient out there.

Basically a great game.

hi,

i'm looking for good 'WRPGs', or western RPGs. i've played too many japanese ones! i need something very good but different from FF et al.

also looking for RPGs with a futuristic aesthetic or with just guns (something different from swords and magic - these can be JRPG or WRPG)

thanks

edit: i don't have any XBOX platforms or PS3

Uh, I can't think of any for the PS2 or anything but if you're really fine with looking possibly geeky just get Star Wars: KOTOR for the PC. That's all I can think of:P. You have a PC right??? I can't think of any last gen console ones. Ooh, I just thought of something. Buy one of the Star Ocean games. There's at least one (Not sure if any others) on the PS2 and a couple others on other random systems. It's about some blue haired dude who goes through a bunch of stuff in a Star Wars-like realm. It's definitely fairly Japanese though. And also try Rogue Galaxy, it's supposed to be really good. I haven't played it though...

PS2, I think was the best Legacy Platform ever. I loveeed the Gamecube as well (was also my 1st real game system, besides a Gameboy). Xbox was amazing too. Obssession w/ the Halo trilogy. :)

Hey,

What about Mario Power Tennis on GCN?

Still worth it? Tennis fan speaking, I already tried Top Spin 3 and I own Virtua Tennis 3 on PS3. I still get that feeling inside my stomach becaue I sold the darn game 40 bucks 2 years ago.

(I can have it for about 20-25 bucks, used)

I've heard it was great, but I haven't bought it. I was going to buy it last uh... March, but EB Games had it really expensive still. So sorry, I can't help.

Well, it depends, do you allow compilations??? Because if you do there's Midway Treasures, Sonic Anniversary Collection (Plus???), Mega Man Anniversary Collection, that Mega Man X compilation, I think there's a Street Fighter compilation, those SNK compilations, and a few others. I can't think of any other trilogy's though. At least, other than the Metal Gear Solid one.

odd request:

looking for 'seamless' adventure/action-type games. i want to play those types of games with no cut-scenes and stories that are told subtley through interactions. if they do have cut-scenes they need to be seamlessly integrated with gameplay.

or any other game that tells an interesting story, but not through just cut-scenes.

here are some examples of what i mean that i've played so far:

*metroid prime

*half-life 2

*ICO

*vagrant story

any more pieces of art like these? maybe PC games i haven't heard of??

I'm not sure if I get it. But are you meaning the "point and click adventure" genre??? Like Sam & Max. Or Zack & Wiki. If so I indeed recommend the Sam & Max games for PC, but I am completely stumped otherwise. Zack & Wiki is a Wii game.

ah it's ok. don't worry about it.

i meant adventure in the 'modern' sense; i.e. zelda, ico. adventure games with very little exposition or dialogue.

And I try to avoid crappy games, so I don't know. Maybe you could try one of the crappier Driver games (The ones actually called Driver). I think there's one called Driv3r on the PS2 which was horrible. If you're good enough for them, though, buy the earlier ones for the PS2, which are supposedly better. I liked the first 2, but I don't even know ho the other ones are.

MGS 2 and 3

RE4

Shadow of the Colossus

I'm looking for RPG's with a good combat system and involving story. Also any Good Action/Adventure Titles that are pick-up and play.

BTW is Rogue Galaxy any good? I never got around to play it

Rogue Galaxy is supposed to be good. You could always try the Final Fantasy games if you haven't. A good action/adventure series would probably include Ratchet & Clank, the GTA games, and uh... Viewtiful Joe??? I'm not really sure what genre that qualifies as. Maybe if you like SotC you could try Ico, which is considered to be the predecessor to SotC.

Definitely get Dragon Quest VIII, get the 1st Mercanaries, and maybe get the Hulk game if you think you're interested. I liked the Hulk one and I don't read the Hulk's comics or anything so yeah. I haven't heard of the other 2 though.

Rogue galaxy is a good game. For RPG's I'd highly recommend Persona 3:FES and Persona 4. Two of the best RPGS on the PS2. I would also highly recommend Dragon Quest VIII. It's a traditional JRPG with a good story and great characters. Alot of level grinding though but it's good if you're into that. The Shadow Hearts series is also great. Try to play them in order. I'd also recommend the Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2. These games are a bit difficult but very rewarding. For titles to pick up and play there is none better than the Ratchet and Clank series. Try to play them in order or at least start with Going Commando and then Up Your Arsenal (my personal favorite). Okami is one of the best games on the PS2. The Jak and Daxter series is also alot of fun. And of course, God of War and God of War 2 are must owns. You could also try the Devil May Cry series (1 and 3 are great but I hear 2 is crap). If you have any more questions feel free to PM me.

Just a question for you guys: I'm currently playing Sonic and the Secret Rings for my Wii and I enjoy quite a bit. I plan on also purchasing Sonic Unleashed when I can. However, I'm still planning on expanding my GCN collection. I plan on purchasing Sonic Heroes, and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. However, I'm wondering if I should purchase Sonic Adventure: DX? I mean, I really enjoyed Sonic Adventure 2 when I played it back in early 2002 (I borrowed it from a friend) and I'm expecting the original to a bit fun. Although I'm worried about the poor reception it's received as well as some of the bugs that seem to plague the game. Do you recommend that I should pick up Sonic Adventure: DX for the GameCube? What about Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, at least? Thanks. :)

If you enjoyed Sonic Adventure 2 :Battle beforehand, then I do suggest picking it up. As for Sonic Adventure: DX, I'd also say yes, especially if you enjoyed the Heroes and Adventure 2.

Looking for some more games to bolster my current PS2 library, its not much but I have:

MGS 2 and 3

RE4

Shadow of the Colossus

I'm looking for RPG's with a good combat system and involving story. Also any Good Action/Adventure Titles that are pick-up and play.

BTW is Rogue Galaxy any good? I never got around to play it

Thanks man for the help. I'd love to get Nocturne again(yes I used to own it, and I had the strategy guide...the 400 page one) but I sold them off a while ago, and now I know the game goes for a lot these days. I never got aroudn to try Okami, I'll definitely give it a second look.

I've played battlefront and liked it and plan on getting it again but how good is monster huntergame for the ps2 online?

bountyhunter4
Sorry for the wait, I've pretty much stopped activeness on Gamespot altogether. Um, I've never really played the Monster Hunter games. And apparently, most of the PS2 games' online is dead now. Capcom might have ditched the Monster Hunter servers too.

GC games I recommend:

  • Odama - voice controls are great and pinball premise is intriguing
  • Gladius - very deep and addictive strategy/rpg that is hard to track down, but well worth it
  • Nightfire 007 - an essential for offline multiplayer fanatics
  • Pikmin 1 and 2 - tons of personality and challenge, 2 player is nice in pikmin 2
  • Star Wars Rebel Strike - funflight game for1 or2 players, coop is good and lots of starwars fan appeal

Of course there are the obvious mario and zelda games, but these ones don't always get the credit they deserve. If you can find any of these games, I strongly encourage you to pick them up if they seem even remotely interesting to you. I love them all. Can anybody back these up?

Can anyone recommend a PS2 RPG more in the Oblivion/Fallout fold with active combat not turn based. But not Kingdom Hearts. Got that :)

The only game that comes to mind is The Bard. Not exactly sure if that's what you're looking for, but it isn't turn based I believe.
