Titanfall, Watch Dogs, Thief, Elder Scrolls Online, Destiny. All overhyped, AAA disappointments. So far the best game released in 2014 is a freaking last gen remake!

What's left? AC Unity? Far Cry 4? NBA 2K15? The Evil Within? Fucking COD Advanced Warfare? Lol! I'd get Mario Kart 8 if it was on another console besides Wii U.

The Evil Within and Far Cry 4 look interesting while Middle Earth seems to be an unexpected hit according to most reviews. I doubt they will be enough to save 2014 from being a year full of overhyped disappointments. So far the only hope for 2014 may in fact be Bioware's anticipated redemption, Dragon Age Inquisition.

Most year ones in start of any gen is not that good, especially since games are getting more expensive to make.

"So far the best game released in 2014 is a freaking last gen remake!"

Not even. Infamous, Wolfenstein New Order ( a must play to the end), Velocity, Thief, Dark Souls 2, Stronghold Crusader 2.......

@ledevosNidhogg looks cool but something more up to date would be nice. I could see this being a quick thrill, time killer throwback like Galaga Legions in between other games.

@rekthardHaven't played those yet. I'll have to check them out.

It's been a decent enough year I think... a bit slow through the middle of the year but definitely picking up now.

It's a nice year to play video games because you don't have to worry about spending money. Play some old games, buy a new game every few months (or the humble bundle every week), and you're basically set.

I think it's been a pretty good year so far. Not nearly as good as I remember '07, '09, and '13 being, but good nonetheless.

It has been a pretty good year so far, and there's still a couple of huge titles coming out before Christmas.

Just from the ones I've played/own/can remember - good/great games already released:

  • Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze
  • Divinity Original Sin
  • Mario Kart 8
  • Nidhogg
  • Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright
  • Theatrythym Final Fantasy Curtain Call
  • The Walking Dead: Season Two
  • The Wolf Among Us (mostly this year)
  • South Park: The Stick of Truth
  • Risen 3
  • Broken Age Act 1
  • The Banner Saga
  • Wasteland 2
  • Tesla Effect
  • Xenonauts
  • Crypt of the Necrodancer

...and that's excluding all of the ones I haven't played, or that I'm on the fence about.

Ones coming out by the end of the year:

  • Bayonetta 2
  • Super Smash Bros 3DS/Wii U

Well, we actually got some proper RPGs with Original Sin and Wasteland 2, which is more than I can say for the previous decade.

No I think it's been a very good year myself. I loved Titanfall, Watch Dogs, and Destiny. Then there was also Wolfenstein, Diablo: Ultimate Evil Edition, and Ultra Street Fighter IV. Upcoming games such as Forza Horizon 2, Sunset Overdrive, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, The Evil Within, and Halo: Master Chief Collection all look excellent. If I had a Wii U there'd be more great games I'd list especially Bayonetta 2 which looks amazing. I think 2014 will be a great year after all is said and done.

So far, I've played pretty good games this year (well, what I think are good). Mind you, I'm broke a lot, and these are the only games I could obtain at the time. Let me break it down:

Great: Dark Souls II, South Park: The Stick of Truth, BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea pt. 2

Good: Destiny, Watch Dogs, The Wolf Among Us

Fair: Titanfall, Wolfenstein: The New Order, Child of Light

Poor: Thief, Murdered: Soul Suspect

It has only been a disappointing year for Xbox and PlayStation. I think 2014 is a great year for the Wii U with Donkey Kong Country, Mario Kart, and Super Smash Bros.

I disagree because anybody who has been around to see a new console launch knows that you won't see any real quality tittle for at least a year or so. Other then that, I see it being business as usual in gaming....which is really lacking anyway.

It isn't the best, but it's nowhere near as bad as 2012

-Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze is one of the best video games I've ever played

-Ultra Street Fighter 4 shook up my most competitive game

-Mario Kart 8 is pretty good for a Mario Kart game

-Smash will be a hoot

-Bayonetta 2 is aiming to be better than it's best-action-game-of-the-7th-gen predecessor.

-I'm also digging the customization and info released so far for Assassin's Creed Unity, but then again I've only played two games in the franchise (2 and Black flag)

Wouldn't say worst but it hasn't been a good year. Companies have seemed to fall into this spiral of put minimal cost into game, and a ridiculous amount into the advertising budget. Which in turn gets people hyped only to realize that $500million actually amounted to 20m in game assets and content and the rest into putting ads on days like the Superbowl. It shows in the quality of tittles and in the absurd amount of ads (I'm looking at you destiny).

Currently playing shadow of mordor and even though It's good the games far too easy. Hell before I did any story missions I had killed every single one of the different warcheifs minions, with nothing more then the base skill set. It's gotten to the point where the only two games holding any promise for change or at least something new and fresh are elite dangerous and star citizen the later of which sucks at this very stage.

Damn, are you serious? I thought the Nemisis system would extend into post game content where some of the harder warcheifs would be invincible to certain attacks which would only be acquired by advancing through the story. From what I've seen, Middle Earth looks like a 'worth playing' game.

Devs definitely need to up the difficulty and stop with this 'let's not piss off or deter the casual, just got my first console gamer' mentality and reward long time gamers with an actual challenge to go along with the 1080 pixel, eye candy hoopla.

You are only really targeting the negative games. I personally thought Wolfenstein was epic and Dark Souls II was fantastic. If all games were awesome there wouldn't be any great games to stand out.

It is evolution. Survival of the fittest. People buy into the hype of massive games based on adverts but that is quite a new phenomenon really and one people will grow wise to sooner or later. Bad practices will eventually be stamped out. Or they will persist but there will be multiple avenues to go down.

I personally hate DLCs in general and rarely buy them for any game. Borderlands 2 didn't buy any. I bought the Bioshock Infinite ones but only because I knew they were made after the original game so I am okay with that. Map packs, car packs, gun packs all that crap I ignore completely. And it is perfectly possible to do so without ruining the experience of most games. Even though some other people clearly like buying stuff for games in DLCs it doesn't effect me when they do.

When people do it wrong like cutting most of the content out of Destiny and selling it to us in DLCs then I vote for my dislike of that practice by never touching the game again.

It's just that it was pretty much the same compared to the first season, i love the Walking Dead games, but Wolf Among Us was just so refreshing and not the same. It also has way more potential than Walking Dead were everything is just depressing and everyone just dies

Has been pretty great year actually... unless all you care about are AAA Movie-Games, personally i prefer games that have solid gameplay as the priority over that crap.

  • Smash 3ds/Wii U
  • DK Tropical Freeze
  • Bayonetta 2
  • Mario Kart 8
  • Divinity Original sin
  • Wasteland 2
  • Endless Legend
  • Dark souls 2
  • Wolfenstein

Thief was "overhyped AAA"? In which alternate reality?
