Sometimes I think it's a good thing. I liked it when games told a whole story in one 20-hour sequence (or whatever), instead of getting a 10 hour game with a cliffhanger ending and a promise of endless sequels to come.

Besides, many great games don't need a sequel - I can't reallt imagine anyone making a direct sequel to Planescape Torment or Grim Fandango (for example) without ruining the endings of the original games.

Well, if there's a conclusive ending, then I suppose I could rest easy.

But if I really liked it a lot, then no DLC or expansions would be a travesty.

As long as the DLC isn't ALREADY ON DISC (I'm looking at you, Burnout and Assasin's Creed 2)

Thankfully my 13 years of waiting will finally be over when Duke Nukem Forever comes out next year. Other than that, it's similar to the feeling when a sequel to one of your favorite games comes out but it ends up having major flaws/changes made that didn't need to be - case in point - Twisted Metal 3. Along came 4, Small Brawl, Black and Black Online but it wasn't until Head-On that everything from 2 was at least matched/expanded upon - while keeping the same feel.

Hmm. I havea good/bad feeling on the matter. The bad, being that there is an awesome game and I want to play more (e.g Skies of Arcadia). But on the other hand, it cements its place in history, and doesn't taint its image and our feelings towards a great game. And it also leaves us with a specific thought and unique feeling. AND, it doesn't overdo it by making too many sequals, thus making something special, have a lesser effect.

I feel somewhat cheated, but it depends on the game. I recently finished Enslaved and if there isn't a sequel I'll feel pretty let down.

Other games, like Bioshock, could have easily gone without a sequel. I enjoyed Bioshock 2, but I didn't really think it was needed.

It really counts what game it is, if its a game with a great story that ended with a cliffhanger, then I'd feel pretty disappointed (like Psi Ops, for instance). But if its a game that finishes the plot in one adventure, but still leaves a door open for another story, then I don't mind that much if a sequel never comes.

It really depends on the game. I'm still really annoyed that bethesda decided to do a new Fallout before a new elder scrolls.

It can be a good thing or a bad one. Depends, really. If there was one franchise where there was one bad game after another (i.e. X-COM), then it's better to let it rest. It's even better, in most cases, to let it rest rather than let a new developer make a sequel. I rarely see a sequel made by a completely different dev team to be as good or better than the predecessors. I think it is because they lack the vision of the original designers had for the series. Games left with cliffhangers can be annoying, especially if a sequel never comes to be or it takes too damn long (Yeah, I'm looking at you Valve). Other times, it can be good if there are no cliffhangers. Like Elder Scrolls, each sequence in the series has no direct relation to the events to their predecessors. They just stay within the same setting. Then there are other types of games I generally like to see more of. Civilization, Dawn of Discovery, SimCity..... Games that improve on the original gameplay for the better.

Hate it. Take a game like Panzer Dragoon Orta. Great xbox 1 game. Come on where is 2 for the 360. It would look sweet.

Indeed!!! Great choice. I also wish Square would make a sequel or prequel to Vagrant Story.

If it actually has closure at the ending then I'd rather it just be a standalone game. But if it's the other way, then yeah I wouldn't mind a sequel of some sort.

I'm not sure if this fits in here but Vampire Bloodlines. I know it's a White Wolf licensed game but I just want another vampire themed RPG, it doesn't have to be set in any licensed world.

The only time a game doesn't get a proper sequel is if the last one was not commercially successful. The Halo series, for instance, will continue indefinitely as long as they continue making a profit.

I couldn't be happier when it's 10 years later and there's no half-assed sequel to tarnish a great game. The only thing worse than a sequel is a remake. When I hear someone begging for a remake I honestly can't comprehend it.

I miss those, but I also miss games who had sequels but no 'real' ones this gen. Onimusha, Twisted Metal, and Time Splitters come to mind.

Depends on the game. I'm glad Shadow of the Colossus has no direct sequel. I wish FEAR ended with the first game (awesome ending). Games that focus on multiplayer need sequels though. Basically, store driven or single player experience focused games should be good enough by themselves. Multiplayer titles should have sequels because if they're good, they've been played to death yet the player would like to keep playing but with a breath of fresh air.

It depends on the game. The Mario & Luigi series was great; but if they made another that tied into the other three, I think it would end up like pokemon- milking it and getting worse and worse. If they were to make another M&L, I would have to see it becausethe original triliogyended on a high note.

If it was laid to rest with care, I'll be sad to see it go, but happy there was some closure.

If the game was good, but the ending dropped us off... and the sequel was cut due to the publisher predicting any lack of return on the franchise, that's murder.

It's like a TV series. If a show was given a season to clear up any loose ends, we'll all miss it and reminisce. If the network outright cancels it midseason, we're up in arms.

I would love to see another one too. But, most likely not gonna happen. Maybe if the MMO does extremely well when it comes out and decide to make a new single-player game for the series.

Sometimes when sequels are announced i get mad, because they generally ruin the game. Or, make the EXACT same game and reskin it and add a couple things. I don't know. Sometimes it's good, most times it's bad.

Depends. If itis something like Dreamfall where the game leaves you hanging at the end then it is plain old lame since itcould be years or never that we see the sequel and the resolution to the story.

Thief 4 is a different story. Thief 3 wrapped things up nicely. I would rather not have a fourth game. If they actually release it then I hope it is a new character and a new setting.

I'm fine with great games not getting sequels. If a developer is awesome, I am always interested in their next game.

In the gaming industry many pay more attention to characters and franchises than they do to developers, which I find bizarre since its developers that make worlds worth experiencing, not the other way around.

If movie fans behaved like most gamers, people would have ignored Christopher Nolan's Inception because it wasn't a sequel to Memento.

some games are better with just one release, especially if they had a good story that starts and ends completely in it.

games are sequeled to their graves these days.

I'd really like to see a sequel to Phantom Dust and Ogre Battles 64. Alpha Protocol could easily be a great series with some improvements too.
