Mortal Kombat Vita looks awesome!

Buy it if you haven't played the console versions. Best fighter in years.

S0lidSnake

Nice. Inbetween Blazblue, SF X Tekken and MK, the Vita looks to be an amazing system for fighters. IMHO fighters are a good fit on portables (I got a lot of mileage out of Tekken: DR and SF Alpha 3 on the PSP). I'm keeping my fingers crossed for VF 5 Vita.

Thanks for the info Rrag and Solid. I'm curious to see more impressions from everyone when the Vita sees mainstream release in the US.

The 8GB Memory Card is out of stock at Amazon. That's good news for Vita sales, no?

Here is the difference between PSP games with no filter and with the bilinear filter:

#255 Posted by CarnageHeart (18316 posts) -

That's a nice effect. Can't wait to see how Loco Roco (an early PSP game but still one of the prettiest) looks with that turned on.

#256 Posted by S0lidSnake (29001 posts) -

PS Vita ads are up!

As always Europe one destroys the generic U.S ad.

The Bilinear effects is really nice. I hate the dithering, aliasing and shimmering in PSP games. Ghost of Sparta is the only game that looked flawless.

I was going to get a Vita at launch, but money is a bit tight for me. Then I had planned to get one in early April, but now that I know PhSP2 won't be playable on the Vita....Sony's going to be waiting a while to get my money.

Target seems to be one of the very best places to buy the system, so far. They're offering a FREE 4GB Memory Card with purchase of the Wi-Fi model of the Vita, and ALL PS Vita games are buy 2, get one free (unlike Gamestop, which is first-party titles only). If I was going to pick up a Vita on Wednesday at retail, this is where I'd go.

Happy hunting!

I beat WipEout and got 100% completion in Lumines, so I figured I better buy Hot Shots Golf. I'll let you guys know how it is. This looks to have the most longevity in terms of multiplayer stuff.

lol. at this rate you will have the entire line up beaten before I even get my hands on one. :P

I am surprised you haven't picked up Rayman Origins, it's probably the best Vita launch game if you go by ratings. I saw some screeenshots over at gaf and it looks purty.

Ha! I probably need to slow down. I really should get a job, or at least a hobby. School isn't eating up enough of my time.

Actually I do have Rayman. It is really good. I felt like I was getting close to beating it so I slowed down a bit. I don't want to beat every game I bought for it within the first week.:P

F*** it, play until your thumbs bleed! :P Quick question for anyone who can answer it -- Do PSP games display full-screen on the Vita? Reason I ask is that my 3DS chops off about 1/3rd of the screen when playing DS games with no option to stretch the image, which I find pretty annoying. =/

The Vita's resolution is exactly four times the size of the PSP so that PSP games display just fine on it.

Just stopped by Target and I was present for the setting up of the Vita. I was there to pick up a cleaning cloth, saw the clerk setting up the display. As the clerk set it up, we talked. He wasn't getting his Vita until the 22nd, but a buddy of his had won one in the Taco bell contest and he loved MvC3 and Wipeout. He tried to talk me into MvC3, but I told him the Vs game I have my eye on is SFvTekken. I was the first guy to test out the Vita, but since there were a couple kids waiting to play, I didn't mess around and just jumped into the Gravity Daze demo.

Gravity Daze was amazing and far and away the best original game I've played in some time. You suspend gravity for you and whatever's close to you (including people) and then hang in mid air while you decide which direction you want to go in (the new center of gravity is whereever you are looking once you hit the right shoulder button). You experiment with your powers, meeting a talking cat, another girl with gravity powers and an incredulous guy. Combat in the demo is more GoW than DMC. You control the camera with the left stick, movement with the right stick and roll in whatever direction you slash the touchscreen in (I tended to use my right thumb for rolling). I beat up some small enemies and a boss (flying kicks to both his heads, then treating the weak spot that emerged as a speedbag).

Also, Eurogamer's import review of the Gravity Daze is extremely positive (I've included the score for the numbers oriented).

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-02-20-gravity-daze-review

If you're drawn to games by the satisfaction offered by their simplest mechanics, Gravity Daze is a total delight. You can spin between rooftops and freeze yourself in mid-air; you can drop from the sky and never hit the ground.

9 / 10

I think it's either Sony being stupid or they think they already have a pretty decent launch lineup and dont want Uncharted to be overshadowed by Gravity Daze as their AAA game. Maybe they dont want to front load all their software and not have anythign for the rest of the summer.

All i know is that the best game on the Vita is not available on the Vita even though it's all done. Mind boggling stupidity by Sony.

AMAZON now doing a BUY 2 GET 1 FREE deal on select PS Vita games. Virtua Tennis 4 and Ninja Gaiden are the only ones not included. Everything else seems to be included.

Link

Remember no tax, so you can use that towards two day shipping so you can get the games on Wednesday.

Rag, if I do the free trial for the Amazon Prime, can i cancel it before they charge me the $79 yearly fee? edit: nvm, just read the fine print. Looks like i can cancel before they charge me after the first month. yay, free 2 day shipping.

Just picked up Uncharted, Rayman, and Marvel VS Capcom for only $90.

BEST Launch ever!

That's how I feel. A few years ago I got sick of lugging around physical media and decided to go digital only. These deals are tempting, but I'm still going to go the digital route.

Anyway, IGN has reviewed Motorstorm RC (for the numbers oriented they gave it an 8.5). I loved RC Pro Am and Super Offroad Racing back in the day so whenever this hits the Vita in the US (its present at the European launch, but not the US one) I'm there.

http://vita.ign.com/articles/121/1219073p1.html

Motorstorm RC is a taste of what arcade gaming used to be like all those years ago. It's refreshingly simple and doesn't get bogged down with trying to be the biggest or the fastest and as a result it's a lot of fun. The idea of being constantly connected to the leaderboards is a stroke of genius, especially because it'll pull in times for people playing on both Vita and on PS3, but perhaps Motorstorm RC's crowning glory is its price. This would've been a great game for 10 quid or 20 bucks, but at £4.79 / 5.99 Euros (US priced still to be confirmed at the time of writing, but it works out at just under $8) it's a steal. It's by no means perfect – the inclusion of proper online multiplayer would've added another point – but you'd be hard-pushed to find a game as good as this for the price. If Motorstorm RC is an indication of the kind of quality gaming Vita will offer at such an attractive price then maybe Vita does have what it takes to stay the distance.

Also, IGN has reviewed Escape Plan. Sounds like it has some control issues (they gave it a 7.5) so I'll try before I buy.

http://vita.ign.com/articles/121/1219032p1.html

Each puzzle is solved when Lil and/or Laarg successfully leaves the room in question. But just how do the puzzles themselves play out? Well, one puzzle might have you tap a coffee machine to have Lil drink out of it, thus giving him super speed and the ability to dodge danger with his quickness. Another puzzle might have you insert Laarg into a bubble and then control him by swiping on the front touch pad while avoiding razor blades and spikes. There's great variety in the puzzles, though certain conventions are reused as the game goes on.

Escape Plan's strength relies on this gameplay and how the entire title is presented as a whole, but it's not without its own problems. The control scheme works most of the time but can still be finicky and touchy. Sometimes, certain gestures don't work like they should the first or second time. I often had to swipe at Lil and Laarg more than once to get them to start walking, or tap the back touch pad repeatedly to cause a distraction to enemies in the room. Escape Plan totes a really novel approach to the puzzle genre, but I wish the outcome of your gestures was 100 percent reliable, instead of just reliable most of the time.

Its release date in the US is 'Spring' last I heard, so I doubt it will hit at the US launch, but it is a launch game in Europe.

According to Metamania's SF x Tekken thread, the Vita version of SF X Tekken has been pushed back to fall (though a bunch of characters are being added). Blazblue just moved from 'probable' to 'definite' on my list of launch day purchases.

Yushieda said Gravity Daze will hit EU and NA in a couple of months. Looks like they are spacing out releases. Though I wanted to play Motorstorm today. :( Hopefully we see another Buy 2 Get 1 free so I can pick up the awesome looking MLB 12 The Show and maybe Resistance. I wonder if it has online.

In other news, Amazon has shipped my Vita. I am more excited than I was for PSP's launch. :D

Sad to say it but i've already bought more games on the Vita than I did for the PSP......

I'm buying the same amount of full priced games (Luminees, Blazblue and Rayman) I bought at the launch of the PSP (Luminees, Twisted Metal and Wipeout Pure) though I have the budget for a fourth game if I fall in love with any demos. Amazon's shipped my Vita too. Usually the UPS guy delivers my packages at 6 PM. Tommorrow I am going to wait for him on the stoop.

IGN speaks highly of Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack calling it a great sequel which fixes all the issues of its PS3 predecessor (which got pretty good reviews). I'll give the demo a shot. I don't want to spoil the review, but here is some of the text.

http://vita.ign.com/articles/121/1219029p1.html

On its surface, Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack is equal parts Katamari and platformer. Through nearly 30 levels, you take a green, one-eyed blob across a 2D plane and gobble up everything in sight. As you feast on boxes and oil drums, you get bigger, which allows you to absorb people and military tanks while reaching new areas via wall jumps, pressurized tubes, and moving platforms.

Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack stole my heart. It's visually delicious, the cutscenes ooze with humor, and the actual gameplay feels perfectly balanced. It won't take you long to go through every level, but doubling back to polish off collectables and earn gold medals will keep me playing. Plus, it's only $8 in the United States -- making it the cheapest title in the PlayStation Vita's launch lineup.

#290 Posted by rragnaar (27023 posts) -

I just downloaded the Netflix app. It looks alright, but the app itself is really sluggish. I'm also downloading the Unit 13 demo and trying to see what else they've put up on the store. This is one of the latest updates Sony has ever done and everything that is up is only available via search right now. Dumbness.

#291 Posted by rragnaar (27023 posts) -

Unit 13 deserves a good marketing push from Sony. This is a really fun game with surprisingly good controls. My one complaint is that the Vita's screen is a bit too big for touchscreen stuff to work smoothly in a game where you are using both sticks. You have to take one of your hands off the system to interact with objects in the game that require touchscreen inputs. It isn't a huge issue, but it could be a bit better implemented. Also the menus don't support dpad or thumbstick inputs which is an odd choice. That being said, the combat is really good. I pulled off a lot of headshots. I've only completed the training mission as of now, I'll write more once I've played a bit more of the demo.

edit: My complaints about the touchscreen aren't accurate, there is an icon on the left side of the screen near the thumbstick that pops up for any interactive touchscreen stuff.

I also played my first 'daily international tournament' in Hot Shots Golf. I really like that they've got a variety of events every day to compete in. I think I prefer asynchronous tournaments like this over playing against someone head to head since it gets boring waiting for someone to take their turn.

#292 Posted by S0lidSnake (29001 posts) -

omg! Amazon is so awesome. They just gave me a $20 gift card to make up for the free 4GB promotion that I 'might not' have gotten because i preorder before the deal went into effect.

I of course had already cancelled and reordered my preorder, and had already gotten the free 4GB card so this is just another $20 i can spend on MLB the Show 12! yeyayaahahahaha!

Unit 13 is a pretty decent challenge. It rewards stealth more than I would have guessed which is awesome since I love sneaking around. I'm still debating on signing up for a 3G plan to get a 'free' copy of Super Stardust. I bought Mutant Blobs Attack yesterday. It is like a 2D Katamari Damacy. Not a bad deal for $8.00.

Two things:

1) My games are getting shipped at home. Forgot to update their shipping address. What's worse is that I spoke with the mail man when he dropped off my tiny memory card at work. I saw a billion amazon packages in his van, but didnt ask him for my games. i am such an idiot.

2) Cant connect to my work wifi and i need that to sync up my psn account. But that screen is freaking huge. It's so big you have to see it to believe it. The thing is massive. I compared it to an iphone and it was almost half the size. the analog sticks are tiny, at the risk of sounding gay id say that they are cute. the dpad is slick. Might be the best dpad out there. I cant wait to try out Marvel VS Capcom with it. I barely touched the screen ten times to get the initial setup going and it left my fingerprints all over it. I was like noooooo! I might go buy a screen-protector. The back touch is huge. Covers the entire screen. I wonder how the devs will utilize it. But that screen man!

Sick. I want one so bad. Can't wait to hear about when you actually get to play it.

No one is replying to my 3DS ad on Craigslist, even though I lowered the price. I seriously don't want to trade it at some lame place like Best Buy or Gamestop and get $90 for it. I think the Vita ad campaign is working, everytime I've sold something it's been gone within hours.

Vita -- Sexy Hardcore gaming device for adults :P

Dude, trade it in at Gamestop. If i remember correctly they were running a promotion where if you trade in a 3DS, you could get Vita for only $150.

of course, i wouldnt recommend trading in anything, especially not a Nintendo handheld. If the DS was any indication, Nintendo is going to support it really well.

F1, that sucks. Hpoe things turn around soon. This Vita is a thing of beauty, it even does party chat for free!

Carnage, awesome news. Motorstorm RC will be mine. It's one of the better reviewed games on the Vita, and at sub $10 pricing, it's going to be a steal. Hopefully, other big studios step in with these smaller games at lower price points.

Lastly, i hope my hyperbole is not coming off as annoying. It's just that i only just now realized this is my first new hardware launch since the PS3 in late 2006. so first new hardware in 6 years. I am so ready for next gen.
