Hey all,

It seems like every RPG/game release nowadays has to be open world. Personally I couldn't care less about open world games as I just end up jumping from mission to mission and it just ends up feeling like very boring busy work. Can any recommend some good linear or hub based RPGs.

I wouldn't exactly call Dark Souls/ Bloodborne open-world. Open ended is the technical term. It branches out with some sweet level-design in sections but would overall say the environments are claustrophobic/ linear.

Hm, you might check out Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut. It's sci-fi and an action/stealth game as much as it is an RPG, but it might scratch that itch

Ty for the feedback. I have never played either Bloodborne or Deux Ex. I will definitely check them out.

kotor 1 +2, witcher series before 3 if you don't mind the clunky combat in them. Kotor is early 2000's but it's not that bad really.

Yeah I enjoyed those games immensely. I was totally bummed to see The Witcher 3 go open world.

dunno what your definition of modern is, but as far as RPGs go, I'll always recommend the Golden Sun series.

Final Fantasy XIII...so closed you'll feel claustrophobic...the whole game plays in a narrow corridor.

If you're a PS4 owner don't let Bloodborne pass your hands. i wouldn't define it linear but it's surly not an open world RPG.

@anime-2k3: I didn't say anything about how enjoyable it was, just that it doesn't get any more linear than that =)

The mass effect games, dragons dogma, south park the stick of truth, all good if you haven't played them.

Dragons Dogma is open-world >_< its expansion Dark Arisen isn't though.

If you haven't played it yet, I'd say dragon age is a linear rpg and also final fantasy 13/13.2.
