Dark Souls II is a harsh mistress, possessive and needy, demanding your patience as it breaks your heart over and over again. I'm always hearing about how difficult this game is and that actually makes me want to play it. I'm not really a big fan of this type of game, though. Skyrim was good but most of these games don't hold my interest long.

We're only a quarter of the way through the year and Dark Souls II (as well as South Park: The Stick of Truth are already contenders for GOTY for me).

I would have said Professor Layton VS Phoenix Wright (3DS) for Game of the Month but that was only released in UK/Europe

Well lucky for you it isn't anything like Skyrim. Similar medieval aesthetic but that's where the similarities end.

Ever since I got this game, I haven't touched anything else. It's truly an incredible experience.

For me, it's either Dark Souls II or South Park: The Stick of Truth. I think DS2 wins by the thin margin of it being a very nuanced and challenging game, whereas South Park was a bit on the easy side, despite how surprisingly good the combat is.
