There is always discussions about Game of the Year (GOTY) and Game of the Month (GOTM), but never game of the Gen (GOTG), so i'm asking what you think the Game of the Gen is.

It was a hard choice for me but I personally think it was Uncharted 2, there are many masterpeices this generation but Uncharted 2 tops them all.

Uncharted 2 is definitely one of the most memorable games I've played this gen and I doubt ND will ever top it. With so many categories of games, there can never be just one 'game of the gen'. Plus with games like Watch Dogs, GTAV and Beyond Two Souls on the way, you never know. For me, it's a toss up between Uncharted 2 and MGS 4.

For me it's Metal Gear Solid 4. My favorite game of this generation. I've always loved the MGS series, and this one although not my favorite it was a spectacular game.

MGS4 and Uncharted 2 are the reasons I brought a PS3. I'm pipe dreaming that one day, Kojima will remake MGS1 based off of those Shadow Moses levels in MGS4. Mass Effect 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 are 2 more gems of this gen imo.

Uncharted 2 or MGS4. No way I could pick one over the other.

I'd have to go with Assassin's Creed II GOTY edition, long interesting story and likeable characters mixed with great gameplay plus with it's many weapon's, purchasable item's and upgrades it's a vast improvement from it's original predecessor.

Batman AC. MirkoS77

This. If I try to look at this as objectively as possible, I find it extremely difficult not to pick Batman Arkham City. Usually there are super polished games, but they are simple and linear or content packed games that are buggy and overall underdeveloped in their gameplay. Batman Arkham City, however, has both the utmost quality in every single detail it has and an emense amount of content. Batman Arkham City masters all of its many gameplay styIes. Quite frankly there isn't a single other game this gen I can think of that does this.

-Assassin's Creed II gives you a lot of different gameplay and things to do, but not one aspect is exicuted very well

-Uncharted 2 succeeds in cinematic presentation and story telling, but the gameplay is rather poorly exicuted

-Arkham City is absolutely ambitious and absolutely polished and successful in fully realizing all of itself

Personally i hate the game and never play it but for the sheer number of kids/fools that play it regularly you would have to suggest 'COD:MW' or whatever the hell the most popular version of the game is called.

My prefered genre is racing games but GT5 could never be called game of the gen neither im afraid to say could any of the various Forzas, as someone else suggested i think 'Uncharted 2' would be a genuine contender though.

U2 is one of the games i keep goin back to time and again to play through, the only other game this gen thats had me doin that is 'Ratchet and Clank TOD' but even i wouldnt suggest that that is/was the game of the gen.

Uncharted 2. The game is really the epitome of what became popular this gen as far as audio/visual design, storytelling, and gameplay rolled into one. It was really the first game to floor me, graphically.

The best game I've played all generation would be Knights in the Nightmare. Has all the makings of a cIassic, aside from easy accessibility and marketing.

The best console game from this gen would be Xenoblade, and the best handheld game (not counting KitN) would probably be either Radiant Historia or Dragon Quest IX.

Uncharted 2. The campaign was a blast to play through the several times I did it. I also sank over 100 hours into the co-op modes, as they never got old. In Survival, the excellent gameplay for Uncharted 2 really shined.

Yeah Uncharted 2 would be up there for me, as well as Red Dead Redemption, Portal 2 & Mass Effect 3. But I think Bioshock would be my no.1 pick.

My most played game is probably Team Fortress 2. Is it the best game of the gen? I have no idea, but anything that I spend hundreds of hours with must be pretty darn good.

This. I have only been playing AC3 for 2 days and it is quickly turning into my favorite game this gen, it has a strong chance of beating Red Dead Redemption for me.

"Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn", for it's great cutscenes, well-done map design, high difficulty, and great story to wrap the whole package together :)

Single player would have to be Batman: AC, multiplayer would be AC: Brotherhood, hands down. My favorites, though would be Captain America: Super Soldier for SP, LotR: Conquest for MP. Brotherhood only gets my vote for MP of the gen because it's still online.

I enjoy some many games this gen for different reason so picking one is hard since some other game does what that game is poor at.

For one of the worse I would say Dark Soul. I enjoyed FF13, Two world 1 and 2 and many other JRPG and WRPG but Dark Soul is just taking everything that is bad in WRPG and combine it with what is bad in JRPG.

I haven't played MGS 4 yet!

When picking a "game of the generation" there's a few things to consider. Sales, influence, copy cats, overall impact on the industry, etc. I think that Call of Duty MW might take the title because of simply what it did to change the landscape of gaming this generation.

It was impressive graphically and everyone felt the need to imitate or match it. It changed how multiplayer games are designed, it rivaled movie set pieces and the game transcended the gamer audience and bled into pop culture. It out did Halo in a generation where Halo should have dominated from the start. It's sequel was even better, and while the series has stagnated and fallen a bit, those two games sum up this generation design, marketing and sales-wise -- like it or not.

I think Demons Souls should get some consideration, as well as Uncharted 2. Gears of War 2 was another major title that really set a tone for the generation as well, but when you look back at this gen and think about the game that really changed gaming -- for better or worse -- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the game I'd point too.

Dark Souls for me. It's better than anything I've played this generation (including Demon's Souls which I've played and beaten for the obligatory "have you played Demon's Souls?" poster).

Naughty Dog's best game is Jak and Daxter. Uncharted isn't nearly as memorable.

Tales of Graces is definitely the game of gen. (Although it may be de-throned by Tales of Xillia once we finally get to play it.)

It's hard to improve on perfection, but they managed to pull it off. The battle system is so much better now.

Like so many others, I probably would give this title to Uncharted 2 Among Thieves. This generation is not finished, but this game really made such an impression on the industry, receiving as far as I know more GOTY awards than any other title of this generation and one of the highest metacritic scores of all time.

Objectively, I guess Batman AC or Mario Galaxy 2.

But for me it's Dark Souls. Absorbing is an understatement. Game is fantastic if you have the patience, supremely addicting. Kicked my butt the first few hours, but totally worth it in the long run.

Demon's Souls won GOTY at Gamespot in 2009 and its successor, Dark Souls, scored a 9.5 here at Gamespot. They're great RPG's so I have no clue what you're smoking son.

Kevlar, my brother from another mother. I'd say its worth it. Plenty of great exclusives to play. I sure hope The Last Of Us lives up to what I expect from Naughty Dog, but I am 95% sure it will.

Hard choice, I enjoyed AC2, Uncharted 2 and Super Mario Galaxy 2 a hell of a lot. And Batman Arkham City.

I guess I'd go with AC2, it's just such a massive step over the first, and the design is something to behold. Such a living city and the buildings are so well done, and a fantastic story.

I think Uncharted 2 is also a huge step, perhaps bigger than AC2 from 1. But AC1 was pretty bland compared to 2, so yeah its a big step.

Are we counting World of WarCraft?? Mine is weird it is Lord of the Rings Conquest. They crossed the streams on LOTR The Movies with the Star Wars Battlefront guys and hit on Xbox Live at just the right time for me. I would get up and play this game. Definitely not a 6.5 or whatever low scores it got to me atleast. And now look at LEGO Lord of the Rings... way to piss on my childhood love of LEGO and my adult love of LOTR by cranking this "winner" out.

Littlebigplanet 2 is the most fun game I've played in my 35 years of gaming. What initially caught my attention was the fact that it was a four player platformer which didn't content itself with aping what had gone before (I burned out on traditional platformers in the 16 bit era, when they were more common than first person shooters are nowadays) but what has held my interest is the 'Play-Create-Share' aspect.

The best creators pour days if not months into designing games or movies (in rare cases projects are worked on by a couple dozen people, LBP's equivalent of a 600 man development team). Some people make minigames, some make top down shooters, some make pinball games, some make traditional platfomers, some make stoner comedies, some make homages to soldiers, it all depends on what the creator is interested in. Media Molecule releases a stream of DLC which keeps things fresh for creators (giving them not only new textures and objects, but gamechanging new tools).

I play other games, but I could play LBP2 forever. Yes, as with commercial releases most of what is published is crap, but there are talented people making more good levels than I have time to play.

A photo taken by rheisa-87

A photo taken by TheCosmic1234

A photo taken by SackRus

Of course, LBPV has a better campaign and better tools, but I only have one Vita (waiting for a price cut), so I can't play it with my daughters and the community is only a fraction of the size of LBP2's.
