From Software pre-demon's souls

Souls game are good and all but have you played other From Software games?

I only know about kings field and the otogi series. I am really interested in playing otogi but can't seem to find the original xbox around here.

I enjoyed Otogi 1 and 2. The deviation to the souls was jarring especially coming from those games.

I played Lost Kingdoms 2. Not spectacular, but a fun game with unique mechanics. Almost like a predecessor to Folklor, gameplay-wise.

never played that but if you say its like folklor it might be fun

Before Souls, my first game from Software would be, Metal Wolf Chaos on Xbox. For those of you don't know, Metal Wolf Chaos was only available in Japan but never made it to the U.S, I got that game back in 2008 when I found it at Gamestop for only $5, I never heard the game before until the Clark told me it never made it to U.S and there's no English subs so I ended up buying it and the gameplay was really fun and that was my first game from Software.

Yes, I've played about two dozen of their earlier titles.

I -loved- the Armored Core games back in the Playstation era. Tenchu is also another classic series. Otogi 1 and 2 are among the handful of original Xbox games that I didn't get rid of.

I never got into the second one but I really enjoyed the first Echo Night.

I also had a few of their launch or near launch RPGs for the 360. Eternal Ring and Enchanted Arms.

Ninja Blade was pretty fun.

Kuon was a pretty cool PS2 era survival horror game.

Chromehounds was ass, but I bought it because I wanted a new Armored Core on (then) the latest gen consoles. Eventually they released a few actual Armored Core games on 360/PS3 which were not perfect, but much better.

From Software also made the Kinect only version of Steel Battalion on 360 and for that they should never be forgiven.

the old ones, the ps1 era, don't know if those were made by them too.

I was surprised when I found that out, too. To me, Chromehounds felt like a cheap ripoff of Armored Core. Honestly, I don't know why they didn't just make an Armored Core game at that time instead of create a new IP that's basically an attempt at making the exact same type of game.

yeah its they're game from the start , but i dont know if armor core 5 is made by them

I've played Otogi 1 and Otogi 2 and some of Lost Kingdom. Otogi games were good (I didn't spend enough time with Lost Kingdom to really get a lasting impression).

I played a few.

• King's Field 1 and 2 - loved them and would really like to see them make a new one
• Otogi 2 - great game, really enjoyed it
• Ninja Blade - really enjoyed it as well
• Armoured Core V - first game in the series that I played but it was very brief and I need to play more to get a better opinion

It's a Gamecube exclusive rpg, so you know, no one played it. You collect creatures on cards and assign them to buttons. Hit the button and they perform their ability, much like the "folks". Folklore (I misspelled that in my earlier post, sorry) is the better game but LK2 is worth a go if you find it cheap.

you can play King's Field The Ancient City (KF4) which came out on the PS2.

The Shadow Tower games are also very King's Fieldish.

if its released in EU i will look for them.

3D Dot Game Heroes is the only other game of theirs I've played. Wish they'd make a sequel. That game was fantastic.

It's got a larger cast of characters. I had a wonky original Xbox, so a lot of games had problems while running. Otogi 2 had a lot of framerate drops to the point where I could only get through a couple levels. I don't think it was the game because this happened to multiple games that later worked spectacularly when I played them on the 360. Unfortunately, the 360 doesn't support either Otogi.

They only published 3D Dot Game Heroes, but it was a spectacular game.

You sure? Certain I heard they co-developed it.

I used to be a fan of Armored Core back in the PS1 days but the series never evolved. At the end FromSoftware hit a jackpot with the Souls series but they never been a particularly good developer.

@c_rakestraw: Hmmmm... it's possible that From took a similar role that sony took during Demon's Souls and Bloodborne for 3D Dot Game Heroes, but I thought it was Silicon Studio who was the main/exclusive developer. Although it would make sense that From played some executive role other than publisher with the inclusion of references to past FromSoftware games.

armored core 5 evolved but not in a good way.

all they're other games are not that know , they are even called bad , but i like to see people knowing them not just for Souls games

I played the hell out of the first Armored Core on PS1

I played a bunch of from software games that I just learned were their games from this thread.

-Ninja Blade was amazing

-armored core series was loads of fun

-tenchu was great

-kings field was kind of bad but i played them anyway

Kuri Kuri Mikkusu, I really liked it as a kid.

Only other non Soul themed From game I've played is AC For Answer. Wasn't a fan. Prefer Mech Warrior.

Played King's Field 2/3/4. Really would like another one- but the games are too dated now.

I do too, but they haven't released a proper Mechwarrior game in a lot of years. Armored Core is a pretty long running series with a lot of installments. Some good, some bad. For Answer was hardly the best in the series, and some of the later games weren't super friendly to newcommers to the series.

Nope, not even sure what other games they have made.

Yes I've 100% both Otogi titles and Otogi 2 is better than Otogi 1 however I do like that Raikoh can use more than just a sword in Otogi 1.

I've played a lot of From Software titles and usually enjoy them.

Forever Kingdom (I enjoyed the visuals at the time and fighting engine of this title but the music could have been much better)

Ku-on/Ju-On The Grudge - Pretty decent horror game. Put me in the mind of Fatal Frame mixed with Silent Hill a bit

They are one of my fav devs, not my fav but they are up there and it's not because of the Souls/Borne series at all.

never heard of frame gride . i just got the grudge must say for a wii game its ok

Frame Gride is kind of like Armored Core mashed with Virtua On. It's not as fast paced as Virtua On but it is very fun and should have had online play. Decent Arena combat title.

I had Ju-On/Ku-On on PS2, I'm not sure if they made the Wii version.

Yep it was pretty similar to Fatal Frame and Silent Hill mixed up. I can see a resemblence of Siren as well.
