would Final Fantasy VII Remake might it come out in 2017 . ? maybe . ? because of like a 20 anniversary thing

While you wait for that very unlikely product to arrive you can have a go at this,it´s probably the closest thing to a remake you´ll ever see tbh.

It´s not impossible that they do that, but I´d say it´s very unlikely.

Or what about a new FF:VII Game like one before FF:VII and After Crisis Core

#5 Posted by Kocelot (753 posts) -

might as well not even remember it.
id probably have kids by then. lol

Ugh!!!! I will never understand why so many regard FF7 as "teh best game EVAR!!1!!". It was groundbreaking at the time, but it's been surpassed MANY times over. How much of this cockriding is even coming from people that experienced it when it was new?

And yes, I owned, I loved it, and I beat Emerald and Ruby Weapon.

#7 Posted by BuryMe (22017 posts) -

Oh my god, are people still harping on this?

There is no FFVII remake. None. They have gon on record multiple times saying they are not going to remake the game. They created 1 30 second video to show the power of the PS3. That's it.

They are not remaking the game.

Never liked 7 or 8, anyway, a remake wouldnt do me much good.
#9 Posted by JustPlainLucas (73582 posts) -
Do you know how many times you could play FFVII before the remake ever came out? Enough times that you'd grow sick of it and not want a remake...

8 could use a remake more than 7 tho considering how janky the whole magic/stats/combat system can be in that game.

Can't wait that long. Square needs to make it now, not later. But Square forgot how to make good games this gen.

#12 Posted by Archangel3371 (15351 posts) -
Well never say never. It's not like it would be a bad thing to change their minds from not doing a remake to doing one. That would be cool if they did one. I'd most likey buy it.
#13 Posted by Lucky_Krystal (1730 posts) -

Why 2017?

And man has this horse been beat to death. I know Square likes to taunt its fans by saying "Once a new game outsells FFVII we'll remake it!" (which is an obvious ploy to keep people around and buying their games) but its highly unlikely a remake of 7 is ever coming. EVER! Move on with your life and go play something else. There are still good JRPGs out there, old and new, that don't have "Final Fantasy" in their title.

You're pining away for a remake of what is probably the most overrated game ever, and you don't know what the Emerald and Ruby Weapons are?!?!?! I beat the game in the mid 90's and I still remember. They were the two completely optional bosses in an otherwise unremarkable and typical linear JRPG grindfest.

Every game since doesn't hold the same affect on people as FF7. And that's regardless of whether you played it from day 1 or visited it's magic years later. (what does it matter?)

I, however, still own my original copy that I got for Christmas 1997 (damn!). I'd love to see them remake the game. They mention that it's too epic a world to do in full at the current graphics capacity.

I say they should exlopre the option of releasing episodes and making parts optional downloads later on.

FF7 really can be a LOTR style 3 game series. 1st game = prior to world map. 2nd - exploring the world. 3. Post meteor cast.

Online options can WoW style dungeon exploration and team challenges. This game can be brought right up date and beyond.

While the episodes are being released, optional sections are released for download...such as a full and extended Gold Saucer. Emerald/Ruby Weapon challenges. Underwater world. Optional towns. Gold Saucer battle challenge. Full Chocobo challenge etc etc. Ski game.

There were so many optional parts of the original FF7 that added to the richness of the game, but can be optional downloads here released over time....and for money for SEnix.

As many others have pointed out - the story must stay the same, the materia system must stay the same. Battle system must be a hybrid of traditional turn based with a hint of real time as I can understand why it couldn't be fully turn-based.

Thoughts?

No thanks. I'd like it to stay as it is, as an unrivaled masterpiece.

The hell is The Emerald and Ruby Weapon.

Emerald And Ruby Weapons were extra bosses that can be found in the US version of Final Fantasy VII. THe original Japanese version DID NOT have the Weapon bosses included. We got them as something extra, but the Japanese got the better deal, later on, with a much, MUCH better edition of the game, which also included the Weapon bosses as well.

I wouldn't know about that. All I know is that the US version got them first, then everyone else got them later on.

Why does a person have to consider FFVII the best game ever to want a next-gen remake?

Hi - elaborate on this better version that the Japanese got? I love the EU version, but would give a better version a go.

Cheers.

They certainly didn't get an awfully messed up translation :D

I'd rather have a remake of 6... Or possibly Tactics: War of the Lions.
IMO 7 was overrated.

#25 Posted by ThatOneGamerGuy (9 posts) -

Yeah. FF7 was the 'big game' of the 5th Generation of gaming.. It's been pretty much a decade and a half since the game came out and now we're right at the very end of the 7th generation.

Now, evidently the three biggest games that want to be re-made are FF7, OOT, and Half Life 2, well maybe more but those seem to be the most I hear. So, 2017 would be the 20th anniversary of the game and it's less than 5 years away (for the US release, which was September)

Then there's oot which was 1998, and half life 2 in 2004

So my big idea is that they should release half life 3 10 years after 2, which would be some time in 2014. Now, if they did that then it'd be a much smaller game then what I'd want, but if they would instead release it 20 years after the first one (Half life 1; 1998) then it'd be 2018!

The best idea would be to release everything in 2017~2018 or something

This also would be another good reason to not remake it.

As much as I would loved to see FF7 remade i understand why they wouldnt..And yes theres been other games that has surpast its game play, but i think why ppl loved it so much was the story line...You could kinda relate to all the characters esp since you could change the names of them in the begining to relate to ppl you knew..Id prolly buy 3 copies if they did remake it. One to use, one to have in case i broke it (or my kids) and one just for the hell of it.But to be honest, id be just as happy if they made an animated movie from it...like say 3 parts being 2 hours each?...Prolly be much easier then doin the remake..

I am going to give Square some space because there are some other big name games that are in queue like Versus XIII. Once those are out, I will start petitioning for a remake.
