FFX its linear exploration was a major step back in the series. You cant get lost in that game even if you tryed they might aswell have made its exploration 2D valkyrie style and you would not have missed a thing.hot114

thats the 1 thing i didnt like about 10, FF7-9 you could pretty much go where you wanted you had the main story but there were so many places to just explore.

when playing through FF7 the story was so well writen when bad things happend in the game it made you feel sad like the train crash into the town near the golad saucer i think just speaking to the local shop keepers there i felt i had to buy things off them although they were only npc's lol.

there are many more just shock at what happens in the ancient city with a man and a big sword :(

FF7 is superior in all ways but graphics, but that can be sorted by playing it through remote play on a PSP :P

That is true. There isn't alot of things to explore in FFX. Once I got the Ultimate weapons, get all the aeons, and defeat Ultima and Omega Weapon, there was nothing else left to do.

I actually like FFX better. I don't know, I just love the fact that it has voice acting and the story was better imo. Also gameplay-wise it was more addicting. The only bad thing is the random battle encounters but both games suffer from that.

I had a better time playing through VII than X, but by no means did I not enjoy it.

Final Fantasy 7 was awesome for it's time and it's awesome now!

Final Fantasy X on the other hand had so many problems I don't know where to start.

Tidus was a whiny chump, more interested in gaining the love of his loser drunkard father than actually saving the world. (even going so far as to say "I hate you!" in a pitiful fantasy where he's playing soccer with his daddy on a sailship)

Wakka is a stereotype pothead surfer dude who's obsessed with proving that he can play blitzball even though he's lost every game he's ever played...not to mention the obvious sexual tension between him and his dead brother's woman Lulu...way to honor your dead brother's memory by hooking up with his woman eh Wakka?

Yuna made probably the weakest lamest female protagonist in any Final Fantasy game prior. When compared to Rosa or Rydia or Terra or Celes or even Aeris or Tifa...Yuna was an extremely weak character all around.

The whole blitzball thing really detracted from the already slow pace of the game, and having to compete in that blitzball tournament did a huge disservice to the game as a whole. And the fact that blitzball was such a large part of the story only to practically never be mentioned again after the tournament, that in itself proves just how lame it was.

The whole sin thing just oozes lame. Sin is ?Jecht who's from the same Zanarkand as Tidus as is Auron, so when Sin is defeated Tidus disappears because he was from a dream Zanarkand, so obviously Jecht was a dream as well...and so was Auron...even though Auron doesn't disappear for some strange reason, forgetting about the fact that he's already dead and is a wondering ghoul which means that according to every single elemental rule in any Final Fantasy game heal spells should harm him...but they don't. And if he's a dream and never existed in the first place then he wouldn't be going off to the great beyond.

The story was such a mess that even Yuna didn't get it. She spent half of FFX-2 trying to search for Tidus.

Oh, and Yu-Yevon (that spider thing) made a pretty pitiful final boss. And don't tell me that Sin was the final boss, because sin just sucked.

Final Fantasy X was my most hated Final Fantasy all around. Next to 12...which doesn't actually count as a Final Fantasy game.

Auron wasn't from Zanarkand. He went there to watch over Tidus and bring him to his time

I picked up FF7 by accident and didn't know what it was but saw it on the charts so decided to get it. My friends came round to play it and asked why 7? Arn't there any others? I was like maybe it's just a name to something in the game lol. Anyways back then it was te first Final Fantasy game we saw in the UK, never saw one in the shops before. So me and my mates played FF7 together and played it for days on end before they'd all go home lol. So I had a great experience being with my mates and that and watching the footie while playing and just having a laugh.

With 10 I played it and got up to this point where you had to put balls in some maze thing and I got bored of that and turned the game off and gave it to my mate and he loved it so he kept it lol.

FF 7 i loved it, and i dont like tidus. (i have both)
#61 Posted by Dion2k7 (1353 posts) -

I'm undecided both are great games in the series so I have to say they're on par with each other.

ff7 enjoyed story hated characters, enjoy the open pains where you can grind up levels and not given set path.

ffx characters fitted story well graphically great for its time still looks great today, hated grid system, and linear paths set out for you

i would give both a rating of 8.5

FFVII: Better Story, music, atmosphere, combat system, magic (materia) system and just general game play. For it's time the graphics were great, but obviously not as good as FFX

FFX: Better Graphics, I did like the mini game, and I thought the story was alright. I hated the leveling system, but the thing that really ruined it for me was the brutal voice acting in the English version.

So my pick is FFVII by a landslide.

The voice acting is ambitious, and it's a first time thing for an FF game, but the english version is JUST PAINFULL. You go through these awe inspiring battle sequences and breathtaking landscapes to be rewarded with "Oh!........................Huh?....................................................Yuna I..........................Huh?................................She's dancing for the ........................................................lifestream...........................Huh?..................Oh!".

By which time you are in the kitchen fixing a sandwich. And it's too bad because the voices are perfect for the characters, the story is actually pretty engaging, but the PACING IS MIND NUMBING.

Killer game though. So that says something.

You forgot the Tidus and Yuna's FORCED laughing scene. That was really weird and lame. 8)

#66 Posted by SuperIntendent (644 posts) -

if you put both of them at the time they came out. FFVII with out a doubt.

FFVII was so ahead of its time with graphics, story telling, game mechanics, etc. FFVII will be remembered for a long time. With many off shoot games and a movie and characters apperaing in other games this puts FFVII over FFX.

And not to mention the reading in FFVII has so much more emotion than voice.

10 has a special place in my heart for introducing me to final fantasy games but i have to say 7 because of the setting is way better and so is the story way better
#68 Posted by Grave_of_Guns (63 posts) -
FFVII hands down. Reno and Cloud for the effin' win.
#69 Posted by TheLordHimself (3316 posts) -

In my opinion, FFVII. Only by a small margin though.

I preferred the battle system in FFX and liked the sphere grid idea quite a lot, but I preferred FFVII's story and thought that the variety of locales was most impressive and were easily the most memorable. (Who DIDN'T gawp the first time they saw Golden Saucer)

If only it had the awesome card game from FFVIII it would be the best RPG ever...

i really don't like the story of ff7 story of ff10 is so cute . . . for me ff10 is 1000x better than ff7 ff7 is the worst ff game
#71 Posted by dagreenfish (1817 posts) -
FF7, no contest. 7 kicks the crap out if X in terms of gameplay, story, characters, setting/world,, side quests, and optional tasks. While FF7 is probably my favorite game of all time, FFX is probably tied with FF13 for worst FF game.

X was the first bad mainline game in the series. Linear, easy, terrible characters, completely uninspired.
#74 Posted by WhySoLimp (135 posts) -

Nice necrobump. Anyways, FF7 hands down.

#75 Posted by GreySeal9 (25633 posts) -

the only thing X trumps VII on is graphics. i mean seriously, everyones expecting you to singlehandedly save the world and you have to walk from one side of the continent to the other? at least in 7 you get multiple modes of transportation throughout the game (and no one except for the people in your party EXPECT or are even ASKING you to save the world). in ten its "ok i walk here then here then here then here then here" ad nauseaum. don't get me wrong, X was fun, just not nearly as fun as 7.

z4twenny

X has a better battle system IMO.

It wasn't any easier than VII, VIII, or IX. Actually, it had some boss fights that were much harder than the ones in VII.

I really like X, but I'll admit that it had one of least likable casts in an FF game.

#77 Posted by GreySeal9 (25633 posts) -

FFVII probably wins out overall due to having more variety in the game's overall structure, a better cast and better pacing, but FFX has a better battle system and it destroys FFVII in terms of art design and music. I don't see how that can even be argued. FFX's art and music is ridiculously gorgeous.

Seems fair enough, comparing gameplay footage from a PS1 game to cutscenes of a PS2 game.
