Evolve ripped and roared it's way into game shops everywhere and it already carries the yolk of controversy with its so called "DLC Hub". Is this the way games now are going and are these the sign of dark times? Although at first glance we would all like to get our rusty pitchforks and burn the effigy of 2k, let us take a look at what they are:
1. $136 for cosmetics for Monsters and Hunters - Most players would just prefer to use 1 or 2 hunter/monster. Can you seriously convince me that someone out there would buy all the cosmetics? Cosmetics is all about player preference. A rough estimation, an average player might just spend somewhere around $10 to $20.
2. $25 DLC Pass, Get 4 hunters and a monster - not every one is going to like all these 4 hunters and monster. Not everyone is going to like these additional playable hunters/monsters and chose to stick with the core game characters. Some might just like a hunter or two or just the monster. The good thing about this DLC Pass is that it is not locking this content. They can be purchased separately.
Evolve is offering all future maps for free. There will be no segregation of players no matter if they bought extra content or not. The DLCs are not the play to win model so there is no advantage for those who chose to buy them. Now what is it that could be considered a bad thing about this? Taking something out of the old capcom playbook, additional content is already on disc, HELL NO!
At the end of the day it's all up to the gamer. If you like the game then reward the publisher by getting the additional content, quid pro quo. If the game falls from expectations then get rid of it. It's that simple. Now one question remains is will this DLC Hub be a common trend now? Let the numbers speak for you and don't buy if this DLC hub is bullshit.
