I think it depends on where you live. In California, gift cards can't expire; I have a Borders gift card from like 8 years ago and it's still has full value lol. In most places, the value of the card will gradually decrease if you don't use it. This usually only applies after like a year or something, so you shouldn't have to worry about it right now.
