BioShock is abhorrent. It brings a political message into video games. If I want someone's thoughts on a subject, I would not be playing video games. It's not something that I want in my games. I use games to escape reality, not critique reality through political messages. I'm so sick of journalists praising things that are political like BioShock and critiquing things that are not political like Bayonetta 2. In a perfect world, a developer wouldn't think; he would just do what he is told by his publisher overlord because the publisher knows what's best for the economical profiting of the game.

If a dev wants to do that, it's their business. Just don't play such games if it truly bothers you that much. Me personally, I love games that can try to tell a message through play like in BioShock. But hey, to each their own.

Play the game, hear the message, decide if you agree or not, or skip the game if it might offend you. Problem solved.

The idea of the developer reading critiques and forming opinions on political ideology that influence and change their game is abhorrent! I don't understand how they get away with it. I mean it's basically censorship of ideas by forming new ideas!

All of them are terrible. They inject social views into the game that is praised by the unethical media because of their bias towards political concerns rather than actual games.

I thought this thread would be about developers who are swayed by feminist and racial agendas to change aspects of their games.

I'm very appreciative of devs who create whatever the hell they want to create. That's what art should be about.

@Minishdriveby: why is that such a terrible thing? Are video games not allowed to talk about such things? I love mindless escapist fantasy games as much as anyone, but I'd love for more games that wanna talk about serious topics in a serious non-satire manner.

Of course they're not allowed to talk about real world issues. That's not the point of video games! They're a unique medium that should be untarnished by the creators influences.

I think it would be awesome if developers were much more political and pushed their agendas. Than perhaps more stories would be interesting. There's too much "please everyone" in gaming both in terms of gameplay and narrative.

Besides I have a feeling you are trying to make a point about GG :).

@Minishdriveby: the point of video games isn't just mindless fun anymore. Not since they got serious about narrative and making great experiences as opposed to getting a high score or best time. You might not like it, but that's the direction they're going in. Doesn't mean the fun games will go away though

Oh I Was talking about the gameplay but I thought Bioshock 2's themes were kind of cool.... Actually in retrospect they weren't, so yeah... I guess none of them are worthy.

@Lulu_Lulu: Sports have stories amongst the players who play it, and their journey to whatever finals happen. Sorry, but nice try. I would add a story to anything that can have a possible story to it cuz people love stories no matter how it's presented. Video games are just the interactive version if you choose to use it as such, after understanding the unique language of video games.

Just because a game doesn't provoke thoughts through any form of Narrative doesn't make it mindless.... Thats like saying Math is mindless.

You know what I mean. But I make a very good point. If a developer wants to bring in ideology in games, which has been done in literature for centuries, and movies for decades, why can't they?

They can do whatever they want with their games. But to give them praise for being political like in the case of bioshock is laughable. On the other hand few times a game gets scores as high as bioshock for introducing a new "gameplay" feature.
