No sense of humor? Ive seen DR3 gifs with the main character wearing the banana hammock, with a flame-thrower attached at the crotch, thrusting it forward while it spits fire, while he also wears a bear helmet.

Gamespot gave it a 7, if you haven't seen the review already.

Great reviews.

Eurogamer

7/10

Dead Rising 3 is the weakest in the series, then. It's no kind of technical showcase for Xbox One, although that didn't really bother me once I got into it, and if all you want for a launch title is something passably entertaining to plug away at for a few long evenings, it will suit you fine. Just beware, once you get over the pleasure of the first few combo weapons, Dead Rising 3 is just a solid zombie brawler set in an open world, not the strange game of tender heart that used to be so funny and surprising.

Polygon

7.5/10

Dead Rising 3 gets a lot of things right. It presents a massive open world filled with possibilities and features the first truly impressive use of scale in a game based on a zombie outbreak. But the game's difficulty spikes — due to its control and inventory issues — and boring, stereotype-laden writing can be difficult to swallow. There's a very good game lurking inside of Dead Rising 3 — but it feels a little unsteady on its feet.

EGM

- 8/10

When so many of this generation’s launch titles feel like glorified tech demos, I’m inclined to applaud the fact that Dead Rising 3 is much more impressive to play than it is to look at. Would I love to have it both ways? Sure. But I’d gladly trade more polygons for more zombies, more weapons, more laughs, and more Dead Rising. And no matter what anyone at Capcom Vancouver might say, that’s exactly what Dead Rising 3 delivers.

Joystiq

3.5/5

Dead Rising 3 is a worthy entry in the series and, for the most part, gets out of your way. It knows that all you really want to do is discover and create new playthings to dismember the undead. As a vehicle for that, it's a comfortable ride.

C&VG

7/10

In some ways Dead Rising 3 doesn't feel like a sequel at all. It's a sloppy, loose and ugly looking game, lacking the finely tuned foundations of most games in their third iterations. Its problems, though many, are somewhat saved by all of the effortless fun had dicing up zombies with bizarre weaponry. Capcom hasn't managed to clean the blood off this flawed diamond. In some ways it may even have tarnished it further. But a diamond it remains.

EDGE

8/10

Dead Rising 3 is a sandbox in the purest sense, one that urges you to experiment with its innumerable toys at your leisure. The result is an open world that, in spite of its reanimated inhabitants, feels more alive than most.

Kotaku

- YES

As a game, Dead Rising 3 is significantly flawed but plenty fun. As a step toward our brave new next-gen future, it's a half-measure, testing fresh ground while leaving its rear foot planted squarely in the past.

GameInformer

- 8.75/10

Capcom Vancouver’s latest entry in the Dead Rising saga is an impressive display of big, dumb fun, and a must-play for fans of the series. It’s also a great demonstration of the outstanding capabilities of next-gen hardware right out of the gate. Thinning out the undead of Los Perdidos is worth your time, but the bugs infesting the sandbox are an unwelcome scourge.

Gamereactor UK

- 8/10

For those seeking a return to the comedy thrills of past iterations, there's enough of that original spirit here for that to still be possible, despite the grittier tone. Some won't appreciate the new save system and relaxed emphasis on timekeeping, but the remedy for that is to go straight to Nightmare mode as it's more inline with what's come before. If you're new to the series and are just after a decent zombie-fest and an open-world to explore on your new console, you'll find that here too. If you can forgive the fact that it's not the perfect advert for next-gen gaming, there's plenty of reasons to take a trip to Los Perdidos.

Videogamer

- 8/10

One of the best games to simply mess around in.

Destructoid

- 9/10

Although it sacrifices a tad of its loveable camp factor and neon style in favor of a few other advancements, the outcome is a much stronger, more involved Dead Rising game. For once, I actually felt overwhelmed in a zombie outbreak, which is a real example of how next-gen technology can be used to do more than simply "make things look better." Out of all the launch titles I've played on both new consoles, Dead Rising 3 is my personal favorite, bar none.

Gamespot

- 7/10

Despite a wonky presentation and obvious technical hiccups, Capcom has successfully made Dead Rising 3 a more welcoming experience than its harsh predecessors. It can be an inconsistent experience, but I choose to ignore the game's peculiarities and play Dead Rising 3 in the spirit that I believe it's intended: running around in shark outfit shooting zombies with deadly dildos fired from a leaf blower.

It's sounding pretty good - imperfect, but fun, just like the rest of the series.. I'd definitely pick it up if I had an Xbox One.

Grats on becoming a moderator :) at least now we have one more thats actually here and can remove those annoying bots

But the mentioned i wouldn't exactly call that humour its just immature d... jokes.

But it seems most next gen games are getting a avg. reception across the board. i wonder if the reviewers had their bar set way to high in regards to next gen then what is possible.

@Randolph:

Congrats on the mod badge! Seems like the reviews are generally speaking, ok for DR3. Was not a launch title I was planning on picking up though. May eventually give it a rental though.

Randolph, are you ready for some Killer Instinct!

#8 Edited by Randolph (10325 posts) -

@Areez: My body is ready. Now I'm just deciding which character I want to play as first, and I'm honestly hovering more and more towards Glacius.

Good reviews, hearing about the technical issues I thought the game would get trashed. Glad to see its good.

Man oh man I can't wait to play this game. For me, this is where the "next gen" starts. Such a fan of Dead Rising. Friday cant get here soon enough.

It's just nice to see the scores being pretty consistent. Look at some of the other recent reviews for launch titles and they're all over the place. 3s to 9s depending on the source.

Dead Rising it seems has come out to a collective "yeah, not too bad" response. Which, honestly, is pretty much to be expected. Dead Rising has never been a critical darling anyway. I think the highest rated DR game peaks around an 8 or 8.5 in most places. So far so standard.

Reviewers have always had trouble with Dead Rising. It's core design has always been one of improvement through repetition, but not in that crummy way of doing the same thing over and over again specifically. Even I, who love the series, would have trouble telling other people it's more than a 7 or an 8 because to the casual non-zombie obsessed normals, it's not better than that. But to a fan, hearing a pretty standard 7 to 8 from multiple sources is encouraging and exciting.

Not that it would really matter. If every place on the web gave it a 1, I'd still want to give it a try because it's Dead Rising and that's my favorite franchise.

I have said it before, i am not that big of a zombie fan. So i will probably skip this if i get an X1

@ZZoMBiE13

I'd agree, the DR series has been a niche title at best, with it's blend of humor and gameplay. I liked the first one, but hated the time convention. I'm glad they took that out for Dead Rising 3 except for a special mode. I think it may appeal to a wider audience because of that.

The scores seem right in line with the series historically. I'm like you and cannot wait to play. It was the one launch title that had me at its announcement.

The game is getting very good reviews which is great to see. Definitely a game I'll pick up for my Xbox One. With this along with Killer Instinct, Forza 5, and perhaps a few other games I should be looking at a pretty solid and diverse start to my Xbox One game library.

Glad to see Dead Rising 3 landing consistent reviews. It sounds like it's a worthy addition to the series. The games have never been my cup of tea, but this is great news for fans of the series :)

That isn't funny though.

That kind of humor has been done to death in games. "Oh look we have a guy riding a pony being fired out of canon while he swings a flaming dildo bat and shoot rockets out of the ponys ass at giant dick shaped enemies! OMG were so funny and humorous!" Anyone can just throw oddball stuff together and call it funny, but it doesn't actually make it funny. That's humor for 9 year old boys that think duke nukem forever was the very pinnacle of intelligent and whitty humor "DUDE!!! Duke nukem like saw this halo armor and he said power armor is for pussies!!!! THATS HILLARIOUS"

I mean no offense here, but it's really not the same thing at all. Duke Nukem has that referential "humor" thing, but also relies heavily on crassness and crude gags.

Dead Rising's sense of humor is more about subverting a silly but seriously toned narrative though your own customization options. Is it funny if Frank West puts on a MEGA MAN costume? No, not particularly. But is it funny when he's wearing the MEGA MAN armor while a terrorist talks to him about how it's "almost too quiet" in a super serious cutscene. Or wearing a Banana Hammock while the characters go on about the dismal state they find themselves in? Yeah, it really can be. Depending on one's own sense of humor, naturally. The juxtaposition of the wacky costumes or funny hats against the darker themes of the story.

It's a dry sense of humor, but not the same as Duke's puerile nonsense.

Giant Bomb is for a very specific audience, and I just do not seem to be a part of that audience. I like Alex a good bit still though, I still watch the Robocop review now and then. Well, I would embed it anyway, but it's not wanting to work right now.

So, low quality youtube upload to the rescue!

@Randolph: Regarding Robocop is the better video. One of his best.

Yep Giantbomb seems to be a site for people who like Polygon but want a bit of "humour", the only good people left at Gamespot/Giantbomb is Alex and Patrick but Patrick does seem to become influenced by no longer being under Sess and Morgan.

But Bombing with Alex and Patrick are the only thing i see on giantbomb.

Quick look, when they dont even research the game or actually play it abit before so they don't sound like 14 year old kids on a homemade youtube channel, they lost me as a listener, and i know they think they are funny but they are just absolutely terrible.
