I'm having a look at the games on consoles and they're all £55+, the price never seems to go down. I saw Dragon age for £65!!!!!!! Wtf? It was the normal edition too, then the advertised Far Cry 4 and Ass Creed Unity games were £70, you have to search further for the normal £55 ones which you get screwed out of content for.

What is going on? I thought this would be the digital generation? They charge a premium for it, at retail DA is £40, Far Cry 4 is £45 and Ass Creed is £45 as well. Yet Rocksmith which is a game I want to upgrade to is £55 base, no option to buy it without the real tone cable unless you get it on the digital store, where the price is the same!

Then I also think that you have to pay £40 a year, I've had to shell out on extra storage for all my consoles this time around because the ones they pack in with the consoles are just too damn slow! It is like £50 for extra controllers, which btw I had to buy on the PS4 as the battery life is too low.

These are not cheap machines like many people seem to suggest.

I have a PC, I'm always going to have a PC for work/internet and every single person I know out there has a PC or Laptop as well. So when I think about it, all I need to do to make a PC into a gaming rig is whack a new GPU in there. So to make my PC play games, I put a 750ti in there and that outperforms both consoles for £80-100. Benchmarks show that the CPU doesn't really matter all that much these days and ram doesn't impact performance either, it is all GPU.

Then when I look at the games, I can find all these games digitally for half the price on PC and generally places like Amazon have retail copies for around £22 on average as well. The most expensive store on the PC is Origin and Origin only games are a pain in the neck, but even then I can find Dragon Age for £28, that is among the highest prices on the PC.

Most of the time I wait 3 months later to find the game on sale for £10 on a Steam Christmas sale or something. I remember getting Far Cry 3 the Christmas after release for £5! That isn't even mentioning selling CS, TF2 or Dota 2 weapons on the Steam store. The other month I got a drop and sold it for £53 and bought games with it! Essentially that is free...

Then you factor in all the F2P games on PC and the fact there is no subscription to play games online or use basic features which Microsoft and Sony lock behind their pay wall. I think it is just a scam tbh, they claim they give you value, really they give you "free" games you couldn't care less about, I say it like that because you need to subscribe to be able to play them. The deals they give you are just what the game would cost at retail at launch lol...

I've just gotten back into console gaming this gen after giving the last one a miss for the most part. These consoles are costing me far more money than my PC... I find console gaming to be a rip off unless you're into Nintendo, which they actually sell their games at a reasonable price.

Compared to largemouth bass fishing gaming is dirt cheap, I know it because my other hobby is LMB fishing, also there´s another advantage, I can play every day, all I have to do is place my butt on the couch and I´m ready, I don´t have to travel to practice the hobby.

Not sure about a 750ti, any old cpu and little RAM outperforming one of those consoles... but yeah, you're right. At least I believe you're right. PC gaming can be as cheap as you want it to be pretty much. As of right now I'm running all my games on low with my weak-ass GT 420, but hey, I'm still playing them and I'm saving a bunch of money on games and subscriptions. Hell you could say the very money I'm saving on those two things is then what's going to let me afford any upgrades my PC needs.

I thought gaming is a pretty cheap hobby compared to a lot of others if you don't buy every game brand new.

Console gaming is cheaper than ever. I don't remember any time where games drop in price so quickly. Infamous is 30 dollars, some ps4 launch games are 20...it is quite strange.

@aretilda: ah pc isn't that bad. I have had same CPU for years and my i5 2500 seems to still keep up. I reuse same power supply and case keyboard mouse monitor for years to. I have also reused my ram but that's probably about due to be changed next CPU/mobo upgrade. All and all to stay current it probably averages about 100 bucks a year. Not to bad considering you pay like 50 for xbl or psn

Gaming is pretty cheap in my opinion. In all my years of gaming I find that ever since the previous gen games have received price cuts faster and further then ever.

It really depends on how you buy the games, especially in relation to their release dates

It's as expensive as you want it to be. It's as dirt cheap as you want to be. If it's too expensive for you, you need to wait for price drops and shop for deals. Or, it can be completely free if you have no ethical compass

Gaming is actually pretty cheap compared to most other hobbies, especially if you just wait a few months for games to drop in price before buying them.

In the Long term, yes console gaming is the silent killer of wallets and bank accounts.

They are the cigerates of gaming, if people could just stop smoking and start masturbating to free internet porn instead they can save over a thousand dollars each year that wouldve gone to cigarretes otherwise. Hell I only bought two games last year, it cost me $140, when I couldve had 4 plus some DLC if I just stuck to PC gaming.

Gaming is a privilege not a right. You should all be thankful you have the choice to game, and the fact you can afford to.

@BattleSpectre

Quality of Life, buddy.

Give a starving family in africa a good neighbourhood, education and econonmy and their needs will change into wanting better neighbourhood, better education and better economy..... and entertainment .

Humans can never be satisfied, once you satisfy a need the quality of life increases, establishing new needs in the process.

Now stop whining and start bitching about games like a normal high quality of life human being.... :p

But not everyone can afford the internet to download those F2P games. Like I said gaming is a privilege not a right.

@Lulu_Lulu Haha, I guess this is true.

really sounds like you have no clue about PC gaming, you can't just stick a GPU into any PC and it will magically make it better than a console. PC games are cheaper, your right, but a rig which out plays a PS4 will set you back a bit of money, you have had to change the storage because it's to slow??? are you kidding me, if you think that's slow you really don't have much patience, I wouldn't consider these consoles slow at all, not enough to warrant changing the storage because there ain't much of a speed difference anyway a mere few seconds, and game prices have always been high, jesus i remember back in the day a Snes game cost 40 to 50 to buy brand new, prices haven't changed that much, peoples perception has.

A console is a plug in and play device, you know when you put a game in, it will play, a PC is a more complex system and sometimes your not sure whether it will run well or not.

I'm lucky... My sister's addiction to free to play mobile games has allowed me to piggy back off her Wi-Fi. now I can try demos and share pawns in Dragons Dogma and all that juicy internet stuff. Oh and the porn, don't even get me started on Porn ! :) I know its shamefull but eventually the shame wears off if you watch porn long enough. Sexual Deviancy is not a sprint, its a marathon. :p

Yes console gaming is expensive. But gaming has always been a expensive hobby. First world problem. If you want to play the latest releases then a gamefly subscription might be of help. That is what I would do if I had to play every new release.

But I have patience so I am not bothered by not being able to play a game on launch day. With a few exception some franchises I will play and buy on day 1. but most I can wait. Plus it is impossible to play all of the games. There is not enough time to do so. even if I had the money to do so.

Expensive console gaming is a first world problem.

The thing with digital is, you can never sell your games. With a console, I can buy a game for $70, play it for a month, then sell it for $40-$50. Then I can use the money from that sale to buy another full priced game, and so on and so forth. By doing that you don't have to wait an unknown period of time for the digital version of a game to go on sale like you would on Steam.

On PC you never need to pay $70 in the first place for any game, even new titles you can find cheaper than that, so the reselling becomes less important if you never spent has much money in the first place.

Funny about the PC VS Console gaming no? About the price differences? That are actually all the same.

PC: You potentially pay out the nose for bleeding edge hardware. Yet games are $10-$20 through steam.

Console: Hardware is DOA, but a steal for price, but all the games are way over priced AND there's that unbelievable, ridiculous pay to access their online service? Even though you already have an ISP for that. -_- LOL

I wouldn't blame anyone who took a step back and just plain said: "WTF!?"

Son you are doing it all wrong! Buy a used game system like PS3 and used games are dirt cheap! I just bought a used PS3 with warranty for $99 and dozens of games each only between $1 and $17 each! In few years, when I buy a second large HDTV, then I will buy a used PS4 for $99 and dozens of the exclusive only PS4 games cheap as well.
