Before online/MMO gaming was popular many games had a secondary gameplay consisting of either co-op or LAN connection multiplayer where players had to physically be in the same room/house/area to play a game together.
Nowadays it seems games are either created based on the primary focus being the storyline of the game (like TES games) or the multiplayer aspect (which in proportion I would say many companies are unfortunately trying to make these horrible multiplayer aspects of their game rather than spending enough time on the primary focus of their game.)
I seldom see any new games that have a co-op experience matchable to any older games.
This thread is not to discuss the sad decline of co-op adventures in games or to debate whether game designers are not developing their games with the best intentions.
This thread is meant for people to post their favorite games new or old that provide the best co-op experience. I do encourage however to please post newer games that have a co-op relation to older titles in terms of gameplay, experience, immersion, etc. My friends and I are suffering from nostalgic fever and are in need of a cure. We have exhausted our current inventory of games of the past (pre-2005 ish) and wish to broaden our horizons to any new opportunities.
The co-op games listed are STRONGLY encouraged to be a game you can physically play with another person in the same room (couch co-op). However it is okay to post games that require an internet connection and/or that is played online.
Some co-op games that I love:
- Gauntlet (Legends and Dark Legacy) -the new one doesn't look great, if you've played I wouldn't mind having your say about the game. Please mention if you've played any of the other gauntlet games.
- Star Wars Battlefront
- Mortal Kombat
- Diablo
- Donkey Kong Country
- 007 Goldeneye
- Super Mario World (SNES)
- Pokemon Stadium
- Super Smash Bros
- Rampage (N64)
- LOTR Two Towers and Return of the King (Gamecube)
- Star Fox Assault (Gamecube)
- Super Smash TV
- Halo
- Lego Games- (I'm not a huge fan as I feel it's more for children, but they are still great games with probably the best co-op experiences available so I feel they are worthy of being added)
- Minecraft
- Borderlands
- Portal
- COD Zombies
- AND MANY MORE
So please list your favorite co-op games and any that you think I might be interested in!
