can The Phantom Pain compete with the Witcher 3?

The Witcher 3 is getting rare reviews...and the MGS V preview impressions have been amazing, seems like it will be Kojima's Magnum Opus

Metal Gear rarely disappoints. However Witcher 3 is a rare case of overhype for a good game.

Yes I think that it can most definitely compete for, and quite possibly win GotY. MGS games have an excellent pedigree. It should also be noted that reviews are the opinion of one reviewer while GotY is voted on by a group so a higher review score isn't lock for GotY.

Even though I'm a little tired of the franchise, I would say "YES"! Especially now since it's an open world game!

It certainly can. I believe the GOTY title is going to be a close call between those two.

And it will be overrated like always.

A lot of games coming to a close this gen: Witcher 3, Arkham Knight, MGS, Uncharted. All of them are going to be the developer's swan song who want to send off the property with due respect, so I think it's pretty safe to predict they'll all be great.
