Motor City Online

To difficult a question - too many games in the different sub-genres:

1. Simulation - Forza 4 ( with GT5 a close second )
2. Off-Road - Motorstorm Pacific Rift
3. Arcade - Ridge Racer ( the PSP version )
4. Open World - Burnout Paradise
5. Bikes - MotoGP 10/11

Depends how real you want your racing games.

Totally Real: GTR Evolution by miles.Forza is for kindergarten by comparison.

Medium, good balance realism/fun: Grid, by even more miles, much better than Forza and GT5 driving model.

Totally arcade: Midnight Club LA. HARD HARD HARD but by far the best openworld/arcade racer.

I've been playing games with a focus on driving/racing since 1985, and these are the ones nobody who loves cars should miss.

Probably Shift 2 Unleashed. It was kind of wonky at launch, but I played it a month or two ago and it seems like they fixed most of the problems. I just love the huge selection of real-life tracks and the very complex and challenging physics. The selection of cars isn't huge, but it's pretty darned good. And the Autolog feature gave me tons and tons of replayability, as did the Legends DLC pack.

Best racing game memories? Test Drive Unlimited, expansive driving experience in an exotic location, collecting exotic cars in your personal garages all over the island, clean driving to earn the gold medals.

The only thing i didn't like about TDU was the lack of smoothing splines on the roads, so curved hills and dips were stepped or triangular in shape and that adversely affected handling on the tight and twisty parts. TDU2 corrected this, but stuffed up the multiplayer aspect. Game i raced the most would be rFactor, but only with the v8supercar mod.aussiemuscle

True, that's why I might not get back at playing the game and keep the sweet memories. At the time I didn't see those little hick ups but now I would :)

WORST RACING GAME EVER !!! I'LL STICK TO MARIO KART, WICH IS REALLY THE BEST RACING GAME.

Huh, my all time favourite is definitely rFactor, but nowadays this game is at least graphically speaking only a good memory from history. Race ON, is good as well, iRacing, RB Rally and of course NFS series. Anyway here is my personal top 10 choice of racing games: top 10 racing games

Disk version of GTR2 (PC game by Simbin). It's available on Steam, too, but the Steam version lacks all the Ferrari's and more importantly all the Porches, since the licenses expired on them. Another bad thing is you can't recover your password if you forget it. Account/password is only needed for multiplayer, though.

There is a workaround to get the ferrari's and porches back.... need to install the Disk version patch, and use a nocd hack. Also, I hear the game has problems with Win8 have to run it in Win7 compatiblility mode.

Well.. I'm currently playing F1 2010 so much that my shoulder hurts.  Finally braking down and getting a wheel controler is making driving games MUCH more fun for me. 

Forza 4 , by far. 

TT Superbikes Real Road Racing Championship with Road Rash 3D a close second.

Burnout 3. Especially racing online, it was epic.
