Super Mario Land is one of my all time favorites, but I'm not sure which is the best.

Ratchet & Clank!

Mario hands down. Kya Dark Lineage comes in second though. That game was just Inspirationally good. The ways they found to use Wind was legendary. Huge worlds, great combat system. A sequel NEEDS to be made (thus my sig).

For me the best of all time is probably between Super Mario Bros. 3 and Donkey Kong Country. That said the Crash Bandicoot games have always held a place in my heart and have made me consider buying a Playstation just to play them again.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles for me.

Alice: Madness Returns is my favourite platformer. Omg I crave the art so much in that game lol.

Super Mario World

Rayman 2. Hands down. Sly series/Psychonauts would be second for me.
#21 Posted by CalamityKate (60 posts) -

My favorite would be Limbo.

For both depth and breadth of gameplay, I'd go with Super Mario World 3.

For a 3D platformer, Prince of Persia.

#22 Posted by CalamityKate (60 posts) -

And that should have been Super Mario World, without the 3. I was trying to decide between Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World, and conflated the two.

Super Mario galaxy was awesome, but I was also a big fan of the Banjo Kazooie series!

Even though this thread is really old I would like to weigh in; It would defiantly have to be the "Kirby Super Star" collection. Just because of the amazing controls, colorful gameplay and fun-filled experience.

Ahem.. KIRBY'S ADVENTURE??? I agree with all these titles, but this is my fav NES game. Its just so mesmerizing, so gorgeous, the whole thing. Kirbys Dreamland is real great too, but its a small little gameboy game. 8-bit Kirby games are magical. The Kirby 64 game was a little too easy, and Kirby's Adventure def is one of the most forgiving NES games, but by today's standards its still a decent challenge at times. Considering so many 8-bit games are downright impossible, Kirby's Adventure is a breath of fresh air, and shows off what gorgeous things can be done with a simple 8-bit processor. Affects you just can't get from games of today. God bless the NES.

That's just my personal taste though. Others: Metroid, SMB 3, Mega Man 2, Mega Man X, Sonic CD (my personal fav Sonic game), Crash Bandicoot: Warped

Super Mario Galaxy 2.

NeonNinja

I agree, with Super Mario World being a very close second.

#36 Posted by Cellpwn (1047 posts) -

For me it's Donkey Kong Country 2. Dat soundtrack. Dat atmosphere.

#37 Posted by GamerNerdTalk (303 posts) -

For 2D it is Super Mario Bros 3, and 3D is Sonic Adventure 2 Battle

#38 Posted by B00GIEL0VE (16 posts) -

American McGee's Alice.  I absolutely love it.  The sequel was okay, but the original with an HD mod is amazing.
