For those of you who wanted proof of me beating Mass Effect in 13 hrs here is my last autosave and a pic of me fighting the final boss. I do not have my 360 connected to the internet so, my gamertag would be useless.

I find a capital i to work better than the pipe symbol.
Is the game really that short?

14 hours? Are you for real?
I'm loving what I've seen of Mass Effect, but damn that is borderline pathetic for an RPG. Kotor, by comparison, took me like 60 hours to beat first time through.

Same here with KOTOR, and I didn't do all of the sidequests either.
Please tell me that you tried to race through the game as fast as possible, avoiding all possible side quests and avoided conversations with everybody, while playing the game on the easiest difficulty and engaged in no exploration whatsoever so you could beat the game as quickly as possible.
I sort of had the expectations that the game was around 30 hours or so. While, nothing is going to change my mind about purchasing this game, I'll be disappointed if the game turns out to be this short.

Good job wasting your time when you could have been enjoying the game.
I have the new EGM, in the review they do state that the main game can be completed in 15 hours. So yeah, thats shocking to me as well. There are a ton of side quests so of course you can extend that play time a lot but it doesnt seem to be as big as KOTOR.dvader654
Its ironic that, in a game where you can travel the galaxy, you can do so in 15 hours or less. :P
This feeds into my belief that Bioware kind of cut this game in half so they can sell it to us 3 times as a "trilogy", instead of one chunky RPG like their usual games. Instead of paying $60 for the full experience, we'll have to give them $180. That's why I'm so against the idea of planning trilogys from the very start of development. I'm actually surprised that nobody has made more of an issue about it in the reviews.
This is going to be more like a great adventure game disguised as an RPG, than an RPG.
That is not cool, cause it took my daughter and I 9 hours to beat the Simpson game. We even took our time, and this is pretty much telling me that the big RPG game of the year is maybe going to last me a two to three days if I don't play all day long. Wow, that is kind of a kick in the balls.
And people criticized me for saying this could be one of the most over hyped gaming seasons in years. So far Crysis is getting **** on, Assassin's Creed isn't getting the love it should be, Guitar Hero 3 is rated lower then GH 2, and now Mass Effect is beatable in a freaking day. Merry F'ing Christmas everybody!
I don't think it's going to be half that short for most people who are into this type of story-dialogue driven RPG.
It has 200,000 lines of dialogue. You won't be able to read half the dialogue in 13.5 hours if that's all there was to the game.

"I completed the single player game on a combination of Normal and Hard difficulty at character level 42 in a little over 23 hours. I'd imagine folks could possibly blow through the single player story in 12 to 15 hours if they avoided all the side missions, but they would miss out an enormous amount of entertaining material."
So yeah, if you want to rush through it on casual, ignoring most of the story, which is really the focus of the game by all accounts, as well ignoring most side-missions and exploring, 12-16 hours is obviously doable. Unfortunately that defeats the whole purpose of the game and I can't see most people who are attracted to this game playing in such a fashion.
There is always a certain attraction for early release holders to run through a game as quickly as possible solely to try and spoil some of the anticipation. I was given the same treatment with KOTOR and ended up spending over 70 hours on my first playthrough because I listened to all the dialogue and explored every nook-and-cranny, and I expect the same thing from ME.

Mass Effect is only beatable in a day if you pretty much race through it, and in my opinion you might as well not buy it if you plan on doing that because it defeats the whole purpose of this game. As for Crysis getting *** on, I don't know where you're getting that from. The ratings for Crysis have been very positive, and the only kind of hating I've seen towards Crysis seems to be from the kind of people who just want to hate on the game for the hell of it. Also, Assassin's Creed is awesome. It's a bit repetetive sometimes, sure, but I've had an absolute blast playing it.
