Just bought TW3 and loving it. Especially the storyline and the fact that the combat mechanics on PC is heck of alot easier than TW2. I never played DAI. I'm wondering what people think is the better Action RPG ?
I put like a 100 hours into Inquisition and it was a blast but honestly it doesn't even come close to the witcher 3.
@drspoon: don't play two massive RPGs in a row lol. Spacing it out with other games would be best imo.
@drspoon: I'm thinking Fallout 4 is the perfect Action RPG to end the year :)
CDPR knocked this out of the ballpark. The soundtrack gets me pumped when I get into a fight. The storyline is amazing. Even the sidequests, which generally tend to be bland for most RPGs is fun and bearable because the devs put so much care into the sidequest characters.
I'm really looking forward to seeing how CDPR handles Cyberpunk. And I have to believe a Ciri game may come out in a few years. Because she is just awesome to play with. And this is a company that has half the budget and resources of other Triple A competitors
I would have to go with The Witcher 3 too.
Even though it has quite a few annoying flaws, the overall result makes it by far one of the greatest.
With GameSpot giving TW3 a 10 and everyone's praise of the game, I'm excited to get it when my PS4 arrives. :D
Not in the same league. It's like comparing Half Life 2 to Call of Duty xy just because they both belong to the fps genre. Even the comparison is insulting towards CDP
The Witcher 3 hands down does action better among all other things.
I'm playing Dragon Age: Inquisition now for the reason that I want to play it first before The Witcher 3 and I am surprisingly enjoying it despite coming in with abit of cynicism thanks to the general internet opinion of EA/BioWare.
The combat is a mess when played as a 3rd person action game, suffering from the Awesome button syndrome that ends up being very passive while you do cool looking things. It's also difficult to see what's going in with particles flying everywhere from allies and groups of enemies targetting party members that are not you, so that takes away from any sort of active pressure you need to respond to (This is why FFXII and Pillars of Eternity have those targetting lines or how Xenoblade Chonicles has those colour coded arrows). And it devoids into some very messy moments. I almost dropped it until I upped the difficulty and started to use the (somewhat clumsy) tactical mode and play it that way and it became much more enjoyable despite some tactical camera issues that occur in tight indoor spaces.
There's just alot more control at your disposal and more actions to respond to when you're forced to manage a party of 4 since the enemies are tougher. Some of the design choices are questionable, but there's alot more party synergy to utilize that is thrown away when played as a 3rd person action game. There's something rather neat in ordering your entire party to dodge or block when a giant is about to stomp, yanking someone going for your mage with a grappling hook, knocking an enemy back into a rogue trap and there are some interesting team builds I have in mind that I cant wait to test out once I progress and have the points available. And that's where I feel its action elements really shine.
So in summary, approach Inqusition as a party based game. Witcher 3 is the better action game.
