The Colony Wars games on the PS1 were excellent. So good in fact that nothing on the PS2 ever came close.

TurboGrafx-16 or Genesis. Not sure which one had more, but they both had shoot-em ups in spades.

I wish I could tell you. From what I gather Dampleaf either doesn't believe the japanese Saturn has a lot of good space shooters or the Saturn wasn't a 90s system. I'm confused lol

the closest thing I can think of that the genesis might have to space shooters are SHMUPS

Genesis (+CD) and Saturn because of MUSHA, Robo Aleste, Thunder Force II/III/IV/V/Gold Pack I &II, Galactic Attack, Gaiares, Whip Rush, Darius Gaiden, etc.

Yeah, I also agree with all of this. If we're not talking about shmups, then the PC gets my vote because of Tie Fighter, X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter, and Wing Commander.

If we are talking just about 2D shmups the Saturn has over 50 .

What do you mean no quality? Turbografx-16 had some fan-freaking-tastic shoot-em ups. Here's some of the better ones I know of:

• 1943: Kai (best home version)

• Lords of Thunder (one of my all-time favorite games, simply amazing)

Never heard of Gate of Thunder, I'll have to check it out. And I did remember Soldier Blade. My love for shoot-em ups started with Star Soldier on the NES, so I love that entire series.

What the heck does the Genesis have in terms of Space shooters? The TG-16 has tons of space shooters the genesis/ not even close, the SNES and Genesis are comparable for space shooters. Also you list included 2 games that are not even official and are homebrew for rpgs. Look at comparisons here SNES: Gradius 3 Strike Gunner S.T.G Darius Twin Space Megaforce Vortex Super Nova Acrobat Mission Biometal BlaZeon Phlanx(Which has levels in space) Raiden trad(which has a level in space) Super R-type Earth Defense Force Genesis: Zerowing Thunder Force 2 Thunder Force 3 Truxton Eliminate Down Arrow Flash Dangerous Seed Space Harrier II Viewpoint Target Earth And uhhh, yeah don't see that large advantage in Space Shmups that's so large you and bultje112 are implying.StatusShuffle

And it´s not just a matter of numbers,it´s also a matter quality.

Also,listing games that only have "one level in space" or "a few" is just some serious reaching to buff the snes list lol.
