Nah,that only happens in movies.:P

I'll just laugh at you and stab you back.

Now how about a serious answer for once?

How about a series thread for once? What is this the 3rd space shooter thread involving the Mega Drive in a week? Also why do all shooters have to be in space? you could have stealth trolled by saying scrolling shooters instead. How about threads on things you don't know much about? Aboot?

The Colony Wars games on the PS1 were excellent. So good in fact that nothing on the PS2 ever came close.

TurboGrafx-16 or Genesis. Not sure which one had more, but they both had shoot-em ups in spades.

Either the Saturn of the Mega Drive, though if we´re talking of space shooters in a more broader sense(instead of just horizontal/vertical shmups) then the PC also had a ton of them.

starfox isn't a shmup

space mega force is amongst the weakest of compile's games imo

and aren't r-type and gradius slowdown-ridden?

really, when it comes to SHMUPS, the SNES is merely "okay" imo, it's two best games being UN Squadron and Axelay

Who is talking about Shmups ?

Most shmups aren't even space shooters .

If this is about Shmups which is weird because I never see anyone call them space shooter in the shmup scene than it's the Saturn by a large margin and the Playstation as a good second .

nice twist of words there

but as I said, Stafox is not a SHMUP

if you want space shooters, then technically, U.N. squadron isn't one because it's not set in space

well the TC said "space shooters" but then asked if the megadrive was the best console for them.

the closest thing I can think of that the genesis might have to space shooters are SHMUPS

I'm the only guy that has mentioned TG-16. Wow. I think it has more than Saturn from what I've seen, and it could compete with the Genesis for the title (though I'm not sure which had more).

Yeah, I also agree with all of this. If we're not talking about shmups, then the PC gets my vote because of Tie Fighter, X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter, and Wing Commander.

quantity is not quality. the saturn had more quality shooters than pc-engine. that also had a lot of junk. all in all I'd say saturn > pc engine > megadrive.

What do you mean no quality? Turbografx-16 had some fan-freaking-tastic shoot-em ups. Here's some of the better ones I know of:

  • 1943: Kai (best home version)
  • Blazing Lazers
  • Cloud Master (best home version)
  • Dragon Spirit (best home version)
  • Gradius (best version (even better than the arcade))
  • Lords of Thunder (one of my all-time favorite games, simply amazing)
  • R-Type (best home version)
  • Raiden (best home version)
  • Sidearms
  • Soldier Blade
  • Super Star Soldier (another one of my all-time favotires)

Never heard of Gate of Thunder, I'll have to check it out. And I did remember Soldier Blade. My love for shoot-em ups started with Star Soldier on the NES, so I love that entire series.

But overall it doesn´t even come close to what the genesis and the saturn have,I mean,I can make an argument and say that the genesis is the console with the best RPG´s(in comparison with the SNES)and list games like:

Phantasy Star 2,3 and 4
Shining Force 1 and 2
Shining in the Darkness
Sword of Vermillion
Landstalker
Fatal Labyrinth
Pier Solar
Soleil
Beyond Oasis
Warsong
Langrisser

I mean, you get the jist of it,but that still doesn´t mean that it´s better than the SNES selection, just like the SNES isn´t even close to the genesis(ket alone the saturn)in terms of shmups.

What the heck does the Genesis have in terms of Space shooters? The TG-16 has tons of space shooters the genesis/ not even close, the SNES and Genesis are comparable for space shooters. Also you list included 2 games that are not even official and are homebrew for rpgs. Look at comparisons here SNES: Gradius 3 Strike Gunner S.T.G Darius Twin Space Megaforce Vortex Super Nova Acrobat Mission Biometal BlaZeon Phlanx(Which has levels in space) Raiden trad(which has a level in space) Super R-type Earth Defense Force Genesis: Zerowing Thunder Force 2 Thunder Force 3 Truxton Eliminate Down Arrow Flash Dangerous Seed Space Harrier II Viewpoint Target Earth And uhhh, yeah don't see that large advantage in Space Shmups that's so large you and bultje112 are implying.

You're leaving some of the best ones out of that list, though:

The RPG´s that I listed were just as an example,I could´ve very well used this

http://www.listal.com/list/rpg-world-genesis-mega

since there´s no homebrew ones there, but again,it was just made as an example, and you´re forgwetting a ton of shmups on the genesis with that list, quite a few of them emerald already posted, and that´s not even the extent of them all.

And it´s not just a matter of numbers,it´s also a matter quality.

Also, listing games that only have "one level in space" or "a few" is just some serious reaching to buff the snes list lol.

Yeah, what are you guys on about?

I wish I could tell you. From what I gather Dampleaf either doesn't believe the japanese Saturn has a lot of good space shooters or the Saturn wasn't a 90s system. I'm confused lol

I am still to this moment confused at what we are listing. Are we listing SHMUPS or Space Shooters? because GGM has made several Space Shooter threads talking about only space. So are we in space or what are we doing I am lost lol.

You're leaving some of the best ones out of that list, though:

  • Forgotten Worlds
  • Gaiares
  • Lightening Force
  • MUSHA
  • Phelios
  • Raiden Trad
  • Twin Cobra
  • Whip Rush

a few more:

  • Wings of Wor
  • Gley Lancer
  • Steel Empire
  • Grind Stormer
  • Trouble Shooter
  • Raiden Trad
  • Twinkle Tale
  • Undead Line
  • Elemental Master
  • Fire Shark

Never heard of Gate of Thunder, I'll have to check it out. And I did remember Soldier Blade. My love for shoot-em ups started with Star Soldier on the NES, so I love that entire series.

Gate of Thunder was the prequel to lords of thunder and was the pack in game for the Turbo Duo in the US (part of a 3-in-1 compilation)

[QUOTE="Heirren"][QUOTE="rilpas"]starfox isn't a shmup

space mega force is amongst the weakest of compile's games imo

and aren't r-type and gradius slowdown-ridden?

really, when it comes to SHMUPS, the SNES is merely "okay" imo, it's two best games being UN Squadron and Axelay

rilpas

Star Fox isn't a space shooter? Yeah, alright.

nice twist of words there

but as I said, Stafox is not a SHMUP

if you want space shooters, then technically, U.N. squadron isn't one because it's not set in space

Twist of words? The title of the topic is "SPACE SHOOTERS"! ...and you make it close enough to space in UN Squadron.

I'm pretty sure that it was intended to be shmups. I've heard plenty of people use the term "space shooter" or "space-ship shooter" when describing shmups.

That opens a gate for many other games, though. Plus I like his genres.

*sighs* I forgot who I was arguing with

and I love how you manage to contradict yourself so much, so now UN squadron is close enough? oh well then why don't we include sonic 2 and 3 on the Genesis list? I mean you have space levels, and there are robots shooting at you... CLOSE ENOUGH
