Seriously, I thought this was the boringest shooter game ever.
You have to scan stuff all the time, you run slow, the monsters SUCK...
There are hardly any monsters. They show up every 15 minutes you walk around.
Its just so darn boring.

someone please explain to me what is so fascinating about this game?

Because it's not your typical fps game. It's a fps adventure and it's all about the sense of exploration and finding everything.

First things first, Metroid Prime is not a shooter game it's an action/adventure game. To answer you question, Metroid Prime is a great game because it has excellent level design, character design, sound, and gameplay.

For it's used price: $4-$7, it's well worth it. It does get brutally boring sometimes still.

Of course it's an FPS. You shoot a lot of things with a projectile weapon. Plus, you're in first-person.

The whole "first-person adventure" crap is just pretentious.

Yes I have played it. I own the game with the demo for metroid echoes. I wasted about half hour of my life trying to beat the first boss. It was just so boring. It's still on my shelf. I spent about $20 at the time. Wish I hadn't bought it though ( I'll put it up on ebay, anyone wanna buy it? =D )

Metroid is a great game. That's a fact. Everyone likes different things though so just because lots of people like it, it doesn't mean you will too. For example, lots of people like the Pikmin games. I think they're crap.

My advice would be to give it another go but if you don't want to then just sell it. I don't want to buy it. I've already got it and I'll never sell my copy.

no, its not.

the Metroid gameplay is pretty much "Zelda....in the future!!"

It doesnt behave like a FPS, it has priority on exploration, puzzle solving and platforming, it has an open ended world, not broken into "levels" or "missions", in a way its not a "corridor shooter2 like most FPS are.

im sorry man, but i think you just suck, that boss doesnt take more than 5 minutes to kill(if you are talking about the parasite queen). i think the problem is that people without any previous metroid experience look at Prime and think "hey, looks like halo, but on the GC!!", and then they find out that the game is something else. its an incredible game man, its just not what you expected, this is an adventure game, not a shooter.

What are the puzzles? Scanning machines, shooting objects and bombing boxes to pass through gaps? How puzzly and Zelda-ish.

A half hour to beat the first boss oh wait trying to beat the first boss, you just are really bad at playin the game, maybe u are scared or something. that boss should take 5 min tops. Its a fun game, lot of exploring, pretty hard once u get into it.

This is sort of like someone asking "What is so great about Pong?" if today was the first time they played it (just not so extreme).  A game's rating is merely a snapshot in time.  It might not be so impressive as of March 18th, 2007 (although I would argue that), but for 2002, that was one hell of a ride.

If you call Metroid an FPS, then if you took Final Fantasy and put it into first person, you'd call it an FPS.

The viewpoint is first-person, but the gameplay is more than shooting at bad guys.

I'd throw Metroid into the platformer category, because that's the heart of the game. You jump, double jump, ball roll your way through levels, collecting more abilities, beating bosses and of course scanning things.

So what MP is to me is a graphics game. MP would not be the same with lesser graphics. The first time I saw how water drip off the visor, I was amazed. It's these details and the different environments that made MP a game for me.

The gameplay however is quite simple, go around areas, scan a few things, perhaps jump around, solve a puzzle and if you have time, look around for secrets.

This game was all about atmosphere. That means the graphics and audio stood out as the most prominent factors - more than the gameplay itself.

Yes, people shouldn't expect something like Far Cry or Unreal Tournament... The amazing atmosphere largely compensate for the sometime slow pace of the game.

Same here i got bored of this game after beating the final boss. Maybe because this game made me dizzy.
