The longer you are a collector and the more White Whales you are able to snag over time makes it harder and harder to keep the challenge and as such keep the sport of collecting interesting.

After polishing off all the outstanding Final Fantasies for Playstation One, I quickly found myself much like the main character from Memento trying to find something, anything to be able to hunt for.

With that said, I decided today that Original Playstation Long Boxes are the way to go, now I have compiled a list of games that were released in Long Box format, and if you see any I have missed please let me know!

Wow there is more of them than I thought, I no RPGS on there really, I guess Kings Field might be one. I might take that one and Romance of the three kingdoms, other then that nothing on that list really interests me to play, but still would be flippin sweet to have that collection :P

I have walked by at least a half dozen long box versions of Romance of the three kingdoms for PS,

Now that I want one, of course I can't find it

An interesting fact about the PS long box games,

They are not all the same style of long box, it seems that some of the VERY old games use a cardboard and plastic hybrid (see Resident Evil) but it seems some of the later Long Box games use the exact same case as the Sega Saturn games did.

Odd...

I suppose the long boxes are only in America, the ones we got in Europe were the fat cd case ones.

You know, I've always hated the long boxes, and as a result, I've always passed them by and never given them the time of day. But, after seeing such a nice list, I must admit I'm having strange and unusual feelings. The lust begins to grow.

Its like a Virus....

I hated the look of them, Resident Evil always had to sit with my Saturn games which forced me to display the Saturn games near the PS games which never felt right.

But now...

I need them to live.

I don't think you've missed any, but I'll check again.  Above is a pretty accurate rundown of the long box games that I have.  I have dupes of a few of these, actually.

Any suggestions as to where I can procure these?

I am at a whopping two and aside from eBay I can't find these at any of the local stores/

Despite taking up more shelf space I've always preferred the PAL 'fat' cases to the generic CD cases that NA games got. I like the heavy-duty feel, instantly recognisable design (with PS branding) and the fact that there's room for a nice thick manual (multi-language of course). The trouble is they're a real pain to replace *glares at countless battered cases in collection*

Dreamcast games came in a similar styIe case in Europe too. Chunky.

Saturn games came in those cardboard/plastic snapper longboxes though. Horrible things. Reminds me of those cheap flimsy things that early Warner DVDs came in.

P.S. Only here could people like us have a serious discussion about game packaging and leave with our coolness intact... :P

I've got an extra complete Jupiter Strike and an extra Silverload with no manual. As for suggestions? They're uncommon to say the least these days. Most people recognize them as the oldest PS1 games and toss them or have already lost them. eBay is a good place, so are any vintage game stores.

Not that it is all that interesting, but while I lived in the states I went into every video game store I saw and did not see a long box once.

A couple of weeks ago I saw some long box games at a pawn shop (I think wipeout was among them) I wonder if they're still there.

Ever since Rhino got bought out by Gamestop, I've not seen a single longbox.

I do like the UK PS1 boxes, I wish they had gone that route here in the states.

I have a number of Japanese PS1 games with the same 'fat' cases as described by totalgridlock. I'd hate to have to replace those since they are unique. As far as U.S. longboxes, I have two: NBA In The Zone and Wipeout.
