I started with the Intellivision (note the avatar). I've been playing since text based adventure games were new!

I'm 35. I grew up playing games in arcades. I remember when my friend got and Atari 2600, I thought that was the coolest thing in the universe. No quarters required.

Odd that this was a difficult decision. I "started" out playing an Atari 2600. You know, the picture of me as a baby sitting on my Uncle's lap as he guided my hand at SeaQuest that I routinely mention. Wish I knew were that photo was..... Anyhow, I spent most of my time playing a GameBoy, but didn't get a PlayStation (my first console until 2000). I'm 24 and considering the era when the GameBoy was out, I picked the NES.

I am 27 and first played on a Coleco Gemini (a 2600 clone). After that, I had an NES like most others at that time.

I'm 29, and the first game I played was a platformer made up of ascii characters on the Kaypro computer.  My family then owned several 2600s that I played but didn't worry about too much.  That Kaypro though, I actually recall going to a science fare one time in elementary school for some animation I had programmed.  Once my family got a Macintosh though, my computer programming skills came to a screeching halt... but that's another topic.  I didn't really get into games until I learned of the miracle of arcades, circa 1987.  I have posted the rest of my thoughts in my NES-SMS-TG16 comparison page on Gamepilgrimage, so I see no need to retype any of it.  ;)

Technically I "grew up" playing a Genesis, as that is what I played the most extensively from puberty until I was about 21.

I'm 25 and started with an Atari.  I liked it alright, but it wasn't until the NES that I really got hooked.

I wonder if it was the same game I remember playing.  It was very much just a standard 2D platformer, like a Super Mario Bros. but the graphics were made entirely of ASCII characters.  I have fond memories of that game.

This seems to be pretty common among people our age (Im also 25). I had to think for a minute which way to vote. While the 2600 was my first system and I do fit into the 25+ (just barely), I really "grew up" playing the NES. I never got really hooked on any atari game, maybe alittle on missle command and atlantis, but nothing like I did with the original Zelda.

This is exactly where I fit in; if you exchange "Colecovision" for "Atari".  That was my first system, and I played it for quite a while before I got a NES, but I would consider my childhood as having been dominated by the NES much more so than the Coleco.  So ultimately I placed my vote with the NES.

By the way, I don't care about anonymity: I'm twenty nine years old.  Which seems to be about the average age of those who have fessed up so far.  I wonder what the average age is on the other GS forums, especially the main forums.

Probably far lower.  Perhaps that's why I have completely abandoned those forums and now post here exclusively.

Oh hey, I'm 33.  I'm pretty much sure everyone knows that.  Started on the Atari 2600 and then spent most of my time gaming on the TRS-80 and Commodore 64 until I came to a country that had consoles.

I've only been buying and keeping games since 2000 and started to get a collection over 300 about 3 years ago.  I think when I joined this union this year I had about 500 games but since then added about 350 becuase I have found out about so many must-have games through this union.

Although I didn't own a 2600 until this decade, I played a lot of Intellivision at the beginning of my career as a gamer. I fit into category 4, and I was born in the 1970s. I am not interested in posting ID-theft fodder in a public forum, since my wife and I are striving to raise our credit scores in preparation for getting a house, and if some data mining scumbag ruined that, I'd be extraordinarily unhappy. The odds are astronomical, but even that's too much for my tastes. Here's some non-critical data about me though:

My favorite colors are red and black and I'm left-handed. I am 6' 2" tall and a well-insulated 220 lbs. I prefer brunettes, not blondes. I currently don't smoke, although I used to smoke cigars a little bit. I wear a size 12 shoe. The last CD I bought was the soundtrack to The Pick of Destiny, which I found disappointing except for Master Exploder. The last movie I watched in the theatres was Casino Royale (not bad but long), and the last one I rented was Beerfest, (it was OK, but not even close to Super Troopers). I had chicken strips for lunch.

Oh my God!  I can now make a useless fake identy based on that info.  The shoe was the last piece.  I shall name him gmsnpr v 2.0.  And I will use him to..... well..... I can't really do anything without the pertinant info.

New plan..... Take all the pancakes and replace them with waffles.  Then take all the waffles and replace them will pancakes.  Oh Eggo(tm) I've got you now.

Oh yeah I totally forgot about the Commodore VIC-20 that I used to play with.  I guess that would probably be the first system I really owned and played games on.  I remember my dad used to get this computer magazine that actually had game programs listed in the back (as in the the code for the games was listed in the back) and I would type them all into the computer, then save it to the tape drive.

Damn it, I knew I'd given away too much.  Joke if you like, but there's already enough info about me on the internet to give me pause; I've seen it.

I know the crazy amount of creepy info that can be found about yourself online as well.  I just had to take the opportunity to inject some humor into something serious.  ;)

Wow, I moved to a new country by myself when I was 16 to start a new life, and yet I am impressed.

Wow, I moved to a new country by myself when I was 16 to start a new life, and yet I am impressed.

The amazing thing was, i was too young to read and had no idea what the name of castlevania was when i played them as a little kid. Later when it was the n64 age, i saw a couple posters for castlevania 64, i knew right away that was the game i used to play and put a reserve down on it, ive been a castlevania fan ever since... its pretty amazing that castlevania 64 got me reinterested in the series...

Oh yeah, and when you moved to start a new life was Stranger in a Strange Land playing in your head?
