THE PURPOSE OF THIS FORUM – THE RULES
The purpose of this forum is to allow discussions of future enhancements and feedback you have for the GameSpot website. Please avoid argumentative conversations regarding product enhancements or features that you feel one way or the other about. Amiable debates about what features should come first or which would be best are fine as long as confrontational dialogue is avoided. The way our Features work, and a few items we can openly discuss that is currently in development are described below.
Important: If we do not respond to every post in this thread, this should not be an assumption that we are not reading them. GameSpot Staff do read this forum.
We strive to offer every feature you can possibly dream of, and our inventive engineers will most likely come close, but you cannot make all of the people happy all of the time, as the saying goes. Therefore, we will work hard to provide you the best experience possible while maintaining ample quality assurance and marketing research before introducing new features.
Note: If you are having problems using GameSpot's website, this is not the forum to post your topic, please go to GameSpot's Tech Support forum. If you have been moderated, post your inquiry in Ask the Mods forum.
New Basic Members' Different Privileges
If you are a GS Basic member, you need to be Level 3 or above before you may begin using BBCode or HTML in your posts, your sigs, etc. If you try and use it, it will automatically be stripped from your posts, so beware. If you're wondering why there is this restriction, it is to prevent malicious users from spamming and posting pornography in large doses because they've created several Basic accounts. [Read More]

jsd gives the details about how levels work.
Hey gang, I'd like to set the record straight about levels. Or at least, firmly crooked. Levels are adjusted once per day, usually in the wee hours, around 4AM Pacific time. Your level status will not change at any other time. The pre-redesign formula for leveling up is no longer used. Anything you've read about what you have to do to gain levels is wrong. Unless it was posted by me. There is a cap on how much you can gain per day. This is to prevent people from gaming the system. It's supposed to be a percentage of your total score but I think there's a bug which is causing it to max out at 2%. I'll look into that. But the bottom line is: it is desired and intended that levels get harder and harder to attain as you move up the scale. There would be no point in making it as easy to get from 21 to 22 as it is to get from 1 to 2. jsd
