Problems with following titles

Don't know if this is the right place to put this but am I the only one having issues following games? It's worked for a few (Witcher 3, AC:Rogue, Farcry 4 and so on) but some of the main ones I'm actually interested in I click to follow and it says I am but when I refresh it still says click to follow and the title doesn't show in my following list.

At the minute the ones I'm having this problem with are Ori and the Blind Forest, Mortal Kombat X, Firewatch, Bloodborne, No Man's Sky, Assassin's Creed: Unity, Pokken Tournament, Skyforge and Styx: Master of Shadows.

Is anyone else having this issue or is it just me?

Hi GuyFarting! Not spot on relevant to your questions, but I feel it might have a connection of some sort.

I can't enter "Following" in my profile at all anymore. Just sends me to: "Whoops, something went wrong. T_T" page. The "Unfollow" button dosen't work anymore either on my profile page. It crashed while I was editing my list, as if it were overloaded or something.

What I really don't like is the fact I can't unfollow games. So even when a game is candled I am still following it. I also can't follow games either. This, in all honesty, is the only reason I would even use Gamespot now. Their site is horrendous, and the only PC news on their site is related to the Oculus. Even PC exclusive titles are never listed under PC news anymore. What a pathetic site. I used to visit this site daily, now it's twice a month tops.

Just jumping in to say I'm also having this problem, six months after the original post. I also noticed this issue have been posted about and ongoing for a few years. It's really pathetic. I also unfollowed some other users and they still show up in my feed too. The whole thing is beyond annoying and, on top of all the other terrible UI changes and functionality loss, makes this site just about useless.

@tOrchie: Sorry to hear you've been having issues with unfollowing titles, do you have any examples of the games that you've followed and are trying to unfollow?

@DigitalDame: Skylanders Swap Force and Skylanders Giants are two I unfollowed, but they still show in my feed. And user JackBurton I unfollowed about two or three years ago, but his stuff still shows up in my feed too.

Same problem. Have recently tried following 'Lego Avengers', 'Warhammer: Total War' 'Galactic Civilizations 3' and 'EA Rory Mcillroy Golf'. Says they are being followed but when I look at my followed list they are not there.

Same problem, I can't follow Fallout 4 and other games.

Same problem here, I click on following and it says I am following the game, but when I refresh the page it says I'm not following again.

Trying to follow the Last Guardian and keep getting an error.

@guyfarting: Were you signed in at the time? This is the behavior you'll see from Following when signed out (the systems are different.) If it asked you for your email address, you were signed out at the time. If you sign in and follow the game, it should work normally.

@SavoyPrime: What does the error say? And do you see it as soon as you click the Follow button?

It says "An error occurred. Please try again later." I often get this with other titles here on GS, but the workaround is to just choose another platform, unfollow, then follow the one you want and it works. But there is no other platform to choose for The Last Guardian.

@SavoyPrime: We'll look into this. You're signed in when this happens, correct?

@wemmick: I am signed in when it happens. It's the same thing beardedfreak and dumper1 describe that happens to me, no error, just the green banner saying I'm following it but it doesn't appear in my following section and if I go back to the game page there's no recognition of me trying to follow it, just the usual +follow button. In all honesty It's been a long time since I used this website (mainly because of this problem) but after I got the notification of your message I tried it again to see if it still happens and I can confirm at least that it still occurs with the ps4 version of Firewatch. And just to reiterate I definitely am signed in at the time.

@guyfarting: And could you send the URL of the page your'e trying to follow from?

@wemmick: Well I've tried it on 2 computers with different operating systems (one windows 7 the other chrome OS) but the browser both times was Chrome.

@SavoyPrime: We looked into this - it looks like you're already following The Last Guardian, so that it what caused the error. Is there another game where you saw this happen?

@beardedfreak: I see most of those games in your Follow list now: http://www.gamespot.com/profile/beardedfreak/following/ Sometimes that list may be out of date, but if a page on the site says you're already following the game, that is correct.

@guyfarting: Could you try clearing cookies and cache on your browser? Might be some corrupted file there.

@migadeth: I'm not sure what happened to your post - I didn't see it. Could you let me know what game you're trying to follow, and on what page you're clicking the Follow button? Thanks!

@wemmick: Not recently. If I run into another game that does it, I'll let you know. Odd that it doesn't indicate that I'm following it, but hey, if it works, it works.

I don't get any error when I try to follow games but it's not working for me. When I refresh the page or I go to somewhere else inside Gamespot I realize I'm actually not following the game. No AdBlock running. Any clues?

Same here and it's been like this for a long, long time. I click the follow button, select PS4 and it shows a notification at the top that I'm now following the game but if I leave the game page and come back at a later date or even just instantly refresh it, it's unfollowed. Doesn't show that I'm following it in my followed list either. Doesn't matter how many times I follow it. I've just unfollowed MGSV and it was removed from the list, re-followed it and it followed fine though...strange. Seems as though I can't follow anything that I haven't previously followed.

@lethalbacon: @deanmanwalking2 : Can you guys tell us a couple of the games you're trying to follow that aren't working, and what page you're on when you try to follow them? Also, your browser/OS. Thanks!

@wemmick: It's with any game I try to follow. I've recently tried to follow For Honor, Fallout 4, Dark Souls 3, Ratchet and Clank, Dishonored 2 and so on. I go onto the game's main page and I've tried using both the follow button at the top and the button at the right side. It tells me that I have followed the game but when I move away from the page it shows that I haven't. I use Google Chrome and Windows 8.1. I've also tried disabling Adblock and no dice.

@wemmick: I was trying to follow the FF7 remake, heroes of the storm and no man's sky, but I haven't tried with other games, I suspect the same would happen. I'm in win7, chrome.

OK, tried it again. Now when I try to follow Fallout 4 and Doom the message is 'release id not found'.

Ok, I've just tried to follow a few games again and now at the top where I usually got the "You are now following" notification. I'm now getting "Release ID not found" whenever I try to follow.

@wemmick: I get ''Release ID not found'' too.

Release ID not found when I tried to follow FF7 remake, although I just tried this one!

@wemmick: Sorry for the really late reply but for me at least the problem seems to be fixed now, thanks for your help

@SirBelhawk: If you go to the page of the game you're following and click the follow button again (including the platform you're following it on) it should say you're no longer following it.

ty for the info. what it says when i do it is "+follow", but when i return & refresh, the title is gone. :)
