That wasn't true in 2002 (when those stories were written). On top of that, the download manager we're currently using is a completely different piece of software. So not only is that info incorrect, it's also completely out of date.
I really don't see why any DRM would be required for GameSpot files and video anyway.. I don't see any evidence of spyware, nor any evidence of DRM interference. :S Anytime someone cries "DRM" or "Spyware" it makes me jump..
