Yep, I can't seem to access any of my unions either. Considering I need to post a fair bit of details in the one I lead over the next few days, kinda annoying that I haven't been able to get on for a good 3/4 hours now.

jediknight52501

it is annoying and yet the techs don't care it seems. it is sad that site has gotten this bad this quick. i blame CBS Interactive for all the crap since they took over. damn you Dan Rather. damn you CBS. damn you NCIS.

Just seems to be a case of (seemingly from our viewpoint) not caring about unions for donkey's years. There was what, something like nearly 2,000 votes or so to bring in Unions V2 (I don't remember off the top of my head so I may be wrong) and we were told it "wasn't enough people voted for it" (despite outweighing any other option in the poll considerably). I'm not saying now that we should still bring it in, but I can't recall any changes to Unions at all, and I signed up September 2006. If there's been no changes in almost six years, how are we meant to keep or attract new members to unions if we can't be able to improve ourselves?

(Of course my whole point being the lack of updates may be a contibution to the current issues - not being that much of a techie I couldn't say it is, mind.)

Here is an example of how slow GS is running. Look at the bottom of each page in the following pics. See how slow they are loading? The pics were taken minutes apart and are in the 4 bits per second and 0 bits per second range some 6 and a half minutes later. You can tell how slow it is loading by the number of elements that have loaded, it hasn't changed. That is really sad really.

i totally agree. this site has never given the Unions any updates at all yet more and more members join Unions and yet they don't want to make any changes so they can focus on other things and forget about the people who post here on a daily basis.

Good grief. This is getting ridiculous. Can't even get into unions now.

I can't seem to do anything on the site without getting 504 error message

Just noticed another glitch though not sure if people know about it. Profile image and background settings were reset to default. Was fixed with relative ease though just changed the background back and re uploaded the image :)

I'm getting 503 and 504 errors like crazy now.

504 Gateway error is rampaging again every time I post.

JodyR

They fixed that yesterday afternoon, and I haven't experienced it since.

So about that fix. Here we are nearly 2 weeks later, and it's still happening. Are you still not experiencing them? Because it seems pretty apparant that the rest of us are.

#110 Posted by Wanderer5 (25702 posts) -

Getting a lot of 504 errors this morning.

Edit: Looks like one of my post actually did came through. God was it so annoying a few moments ago.

I still get them but not as much as I used to which was practically every time I post lol There's also a new glitch that doesn't allow you to add polls to threads

This site is almost unusable at the moment - more pages are timing out or failing to load than are working.

One off issues are unavoidable, but this has been affecting a lot of people for weeks and seems to be getting worse.

#113 Posted by Vari3ty (11111 posts) -

Seriously, are these errors going to get fixed anytime soon? I'm getting 504 messages everytime I make a post.

#114 Posted by anihimz (14242 posts) -
The "Oops" pages are back again

yeah, i get them about 1 in every 5 pages I load on this site. Sometimes all I get is a blank white screen. Refreshing a few times helps...sometimes. I've only been a member a month or so, and this site has been like this ever since then (sorry, it's all my fault). I would have abandoned Gamespot ages ago but the content is actually really good (the main reviews, the user reviews and now I've just listened to a mildly-diverting podcast). But it's no good having decent content if technical issues prevent us from accessing it. I would also vote for a one-week CLOSED FOR MAINTENANCE timeout. That should be enough time for the specialists to clean it up. Gamespot has enough history, members, traffic and presence to survive that. The only question is if the advertisers would agree to such a time-out.

I think the Oops pages are gone tbh Lol look what happened when I went to the home page: v1XrK.png

How odd..it looks like caching failed for some reason on the back-end for the php system, which has hopefully been fixed already as I can't seem to replicate it. Seems as though the CSS hasn't loaded either, but that's normally fixed by a refresh here.

Coming on three months of these issues and still having the same issues... Is the CBSi IT department running around in circles or even trying to address the load issues with their websites?

They don't care, clearly. This isn't a new thing, nor is it a minor issue, it's directly impacting everyday usage and functionality of the site.

"

OOPS!

Something went wrong, but it's cool, we're fixing it."

Alongside a 504 error and some weird glitch where everything was displayed wrong, just to post the above.

I see, for me I sometimes I get it at certain times of the day. I don't think I had this problem yesterday though.

site should be renamed Failspot. I only come here for the forums and it works 10% of the time.

Deserves a medal for one of the slowest loading websites and one for reoccurring errors.

Scrolling is fine for me. What isn't fine is the game forums take forever to load, the search forum function doesn't work, and I keep getting "OOPS!" on a lot of stuff.
#132 Posted by Hastur (1334 posts) -

And the unions I've been active in are mostly dead, as they take ages to load, so no one is visiting them anymore. It's sad to see Gamespot loose it's thriving communities.

#133 Posted by Redders1989 (13410 posts) -

The unions in particular are running quite fast for me.

This would be because I get a white, blank screen. I cannot access any union boards because this is all I get.

Another problem to add to the infinite list that GS seems to have developed in a short amount of time.

#134 Posted by CountBleck12 (22906 posts) -

I can't view union forums, an error page always comes up..

Same here as well, except I just get a blank screen.
#137 Posted by gmax (6861 posts) -
From what I can see it looks like links to the narrow layout of the union boards are returning HTTP 500 responses almost immediately; links to the same boards in the wide layout seem to be loading normally. The HTTP 500 response bodies for the boards in the narrow layout are zero bytes; browsers will generally render this sort of response as a blank page or perhaps a "friendly" error message page. For those looking for a workaround, try the wide layout.

#138 Posted by Saber721 (5737 posts) -
Great...er, how do I get it to display in the wide layout.?
#139 Posted by Redders1989 (13410 posts) -

Ditto above comment.

Orrrr... just make Unions wide layout by default until these [insert overexaggerating number here] of problems are fixed properly?

#140 Posted by HybridKing (15867 posts) -

That "OOPS" screen is something I've been seeing more times than I care to count recently. Plus I keep a blank screen why I try to access a union

#141 Posted by Willy105 (24524 posts) -

I really must complain about Gamespot's speed lately. It's so slow it's a pain to even navigate the site. It takes way too long to read and navigate though blogs, articles, forums, everything. Most of the time I just exit out instead of bothering to crawl through the website.

Also, Gamespot returned an Ooops! error right after I clicked the submit button for this post.

#142 Posted by jediknight52501 (69715 posts) -
oops is the new BONK, it is a load of crap. they need to redo everything and update Unions, too bad that will NEVER happen since they hire lazy techs who know nothing. this site is crap.
#143 Posted by jediknight52501 (69715 posts) -
this oops garbage is annoying, get it fixed already.
#144 Posted by benleslie5 (7844 posts) -

benleslie5

For me at least (based upon how many of my union games are being ruined by this consistent errors), it's been in the region of at least two months for me.

It honestly bewilders me that they're still allowing all these major errors to keep occurring on such a frequent basis. If I was the boss of GameSpot, I'd be firing a few people by now.

EDIT: Honest truth - the "Oops" page has now appeared on Firefox for me as a regularly visited page.

I was wondering about that very thing when I was writing my previous post. I could have sworn there were easier ways, but I guess they are either no longer available or broken at the moment, because I couldn't find an easy way to do it offhand. If the union is on your profile's unions page, there's a good chance you can get there. Look for a "Topic" mentioned next to the union entry. Follow that link. That should put you in a union board thread in the wide layout. Under the site header, and just above the thread title, there should be a couple links. One of them will say "Forums" and the one after that will say "[some union name] board" - the latter is a link to the union board in the wide layout. Give that a shot. Try adding it to your forum favorites if you want. Consider bookmarking it.
