New users are now unable to create more than one forum topic per 24 hour window until they've created five forum topics.

FAQ

Is there any way I can bypass this rule?
Currently there is no way to circumvent this new rule, however if there needs to be an adjustment made, we will look into alternatives.

Does this apply to new users only or current members as well?
The rule applies to anyone without a minimum of 5 original posts.

Why are new users suffering because of Spambots?
We're sorry you feel that way about it. But in an effort to help maintain the forums we are implementing this solution. You can still join conversations already happening, but until we can verify that you're not here to simply spam the board, this is the best solution.

Why are the Mods not clearing the spam up to allow us to make topics like normal?
Believe it or not, the Mods have been working tirelessly to help make the forums a spam-free environment for GameSpot members. They are a lean team who are volunteers, that being said, if you're interested in joining the Moderator Team in the interest of bettering the community feel free to reach out to us via PM.

If you have any additional questions, please feel free to ask.

Is this hard coded or is this just enforced by the mods? Because the latter option works poorly on System Wars.

I'm assuming it's hard coded, otherwise what would be the point of it.

It's hardcoded from what I heard.

Yes. Spammers do not follow the Code of Conduct which prohibits the action that others identify them by. Their disregard shows a more lenient system is suffering from abuse. An auto-filter is what we need for the ability to do everything else in the forums. That sort of reasoning is why it is definitely an auto-filter.

This certainly helps with the general spam problem. But what about the Sniper clones? Can you make the 500 posts rule in SW automatic?

System Wars has a 500 post rule that's not hard-coded, and the forum has suffered quite a bit for it.

the new system is working well isnt it? #lol

why doesnt gamespot just remove thread making privileges from everyone under 500 posts? its the only solution.

no one under 500 posts should be allowed to make a thread period

Its not thread making. That can be controlled, its the endless spam of posts that these tools do that is killing SW at the moment.
