Can't insert Links in my messages

I no longer seem to have the option of inserting links into my post. 
The icons are there, but they're transparent and can't be clicked on.
Why is this happening?

I wasn't, but now i see that's what I'm supposed to do.  Thanks.
This must be new because I didn't have to highlight text before.
