I refreshed my page and all of a sudden the avatar picture is a lot bigger. Thank you Gamespot.:) What do you guys think of it? Do you like it, hate it, have any opinions? Share them here.:)

Adjust the image so it is bigger. I do wish that our icons were strecthed automatically, because I don't want to see black excess hanging around. This was deffinetly needed.
Question - do they have to be 80x80, or, as I wish, any size as long as it doesn't exceed 80 pixels on a side? I'd like to put up one that's 80x60. Could you use something like 64x64, or 17x77 without the avatar being oddly stretched (causing it to look very weird)? If you can, that would be very awesome as I'd hate to have add a bunch of black padding around to get the exact 80x80 size. Now it's figuring out what I want.... Out comes GIMP again....

It is when you can't use photoshop, or when you didn't make your avatar. Gamespot really should have thought this out more thoroughly, or given us some notice before making the adjustment.

Exactly what I was thinking. If you guys haven't noticed, we've had the space for the avatars for a while. Avatar size was a big complaint here, and now you complain that they're too big. Just resize your avatar if you don't like its current look.

Yeah, there's a few design unions available. This just means a lot more work for them, but you don't need me for it as I have enough skills with making these things, considering I've got animated GIFs past 1000 frames (my first animated cartoon is 3444 frames (3634 unoptimized), but I'm not going to use those here (considering the 2 MB file sizes attached to them).
As a side note, what about the icon at the very top just to the left of the user name and level?
It may be more work, but not for a long period of time. I am not sure if it would be that much, because others might choose other icons that will look great in the larger space.
I bet the icon next to our user stats at the top will stay the same size. Otherwise it would mess up the design of the site.

Relax, it's not like your reputation is on the line. You must remember that the number of people that wanted this change was REALLY high (even if they didn't know it).
