Being able to run BF3 on Ultra but BF4 not at all

I bought Battlefield 3 a year ago. I was able to run it smoothly on Ultra settings with the biggest explosions and plane crashes taking place nearby. Unfortunately it's not the same case with the Battlefield 4 that I bought yesterday; For some reason when I am on the lowest settings the screen would freeze (be it for a few seconds or more) and I would not be able to enjoy the game.

Please help

BF 4 is very demanding game. I could play it BF 3 on ultra and BF 4 was running really slow. It was lagging, freezing and I could not enjoy it at all. If you upgraded your graphic card try to install new drivers, it might help. Maybe its worth to think about new GPU. I bought one and BF 4 runs really well now. The only thing which annoys me is how slowly levels load. I have 6 GB RAM only and every time I join the game with some considerate delay. I need to buy more RAM I think. Coming back to you, what GPU you have? Try to install new drivers and see whether this helps. Also check how fast the game runs on your machine. Lunch console and type in: perfoverlay.drawfps 1 to lunch console type in: ~. If the game runs below 30 your problem is a GPU. hope this helps a little.

Apologies if the following question is stupid, but where do I find the new drivers to install?

Simply choose your card model, operating system and update your drivers. Looking at your specs you would benefit from the upgrade. You need new GPU and more RAM. It will not hurt to install new drivers though.

I would consider saving some cash for new GPU. Ask santa to get you one. I mean you can get good GPU relativly cheap. New Nvidia and AMD cards pushed the prices of older models down.

Yeah, go to the videocard maker, AMD/NVIDIA, to get the drivers for your card. I don't use AMD so not sure of their website but NVidia is NVidia.com. yeah, just make sure that the video driver is up to date, your windows upates are all complete, the punkbuster, also check your firewall. The firewall may cause issues for the game too, so go into the parameters for it and select the program and choose allow to bypass issues. Those are all I can think of to alleviate issues. I am only currently using the gtx650 card from NVidia which is more power efficient than powerful so I don't try to up the vid capacity and such. lower the vid settings on computer and this should also help.

hopefully you've made progress on this by now but AMD's site has an autodetect to tell you what specific card/os version you should install, and you definitely need to upgrade your memory. The issue you might run into though is if you're using a 32-bit Operating System (OS), (which it sounds like you are because of the 3.3 GB thing), It won't address (utilize) any amount of memory above 4 GB which means you'd have to upgrade your OS.

I believe currently that only top of the line video cards can play BF4 with no hitch at the ultra settings, however, even then the FPS will be below 100 FPS which is terrible for a PC. You, myself included, need to wait till DICE gets the patching process up to snuff and expand the capacity of the game software to allow the GPU to process better. I now have SLI GTX 660 vid cards, one step below the top line 700 series, and I have the vid settings on medium because the FPS sucks when its turned up. Just keep all other programs up to date, vid card, punkbuster, etc, and all should be well enough.

If you are getting a new graphics card. I would recommend looking at this site. It has several options at several price increments.
