Just after some advice. I have won a $1000 voucher at a computer store that expires on the 30th June 2015. Wondering if I should pickup a Titan X, which after using the voucher would cost me an additional $600 of my own money (it's $1600 here is Australia), or wait for 980ti.

I think with the 980ti I should be able to use the voucher for that and not pay anymore.

However I don't want the $1000 voucher to expire if the 980ti gets delayed till after 30th June.

I know specs and benchmarks are unknown on the 980ti, just not certain which way I should go.

@GTR12: My computer is in a Corsair 250D MATX case, there is no room for dual graphic cards. That's why I'm currently running just 1x 780ti. I was going to wait for Pascal, but there is no way I'm not going to use my prize.

@digitm64:

Fair enough, I assume you already have a high-end monitor or a GPU upgrade will be wasted...

Anyway wait till 27th June to order.

Have a 1440p monitor (my 780ti struggles a bit on this). I will wait till the end of June. If the 980ti isn't out by then, I'll just pickup the TitanX. It's a shame I can only use the voucher at their store, wish it was a $1000 visa card so I can shop around for prices. Still better than nothing and happy regardless.

Wait till Computex.

There is a rumor...

Nvidia Geforce GTX 980 Ti with GM200-310 Maxwell Core Could Launch by Computex

So if I were you, I would wait at least up to 6th June.

Or even up to 20-25th June cause Nvidia might launch 980ti as an answer to R9 390X.

I'm in the same boat. I'm waiting on 980 Tis. Rumored May 26 release date but we shall see.

I'm tempted to buy two Titan Xs right now but it would be a shame to buy them now and have the 980 Ti released a week later. Plus, I don't need 12GBs of vRAM. 6 is enough.

Also I can buy two 980Tis, their waterblocks, and 4K monitor for the same price I would pay for two Titan Xs and their blocks.

Yeah 12GB VRAM is a lot. Also thought last night, get 1x 980ti, maybe change my case to support dual cards and get another 980ti. Then with Windows 10 and DirectX12, I'll have 12GB VRAM in total but more power than the TitanX.

Having 12GB of Vram is liberating, you know that little stutter you can get from topping out will just be gone.

Should last me at least 2 years.

+1.

This is from W1zzard, in the review of Titan X:

Modern games use various memory allocation strategies, and these usually involve loading as much into VRAM as fits even if the texture might never or only rarely be used. Call of Duty: AW seems even worse as it keeps stuffing textures into the memory while you play and not as a level loads, without ever removing anything in the hope that it might need whatever it puts there at some point in the future, which it does not as the FPS on 3 GB cards would otherwise be seriously compromised.

Well in COD Ghosts performance review, none had a 12GB GPU to test it at 4K resolutions in order to measure its VRAM usage.

A lot of people complaining about COD Ghost VRAM usage.

And as it seems in COD AW, the absence of memory allocation is continued....

edit: Imagine that COD Ghosts was using full VRAM of a GTX770 4GB...

LOL at 1080p:

Activision with their Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games are nowhere near Bethesda.

Bethesda spend 5 years in the creation of Skyrim...

Soon you will have the feeling of 24GB VRAM. :P

Actually you just approved that its using high VRAM and in some cards all VRAM available.

If you have 7850 it would be 1,5-2GB. Same if you had GTX660.

If you had 280X/7970 it would use up to 3GB.

As you can see with GTX770 4GB it used up to 3,7-4GB.

LOL. Well you might found such textures in Witcher 3 mods since... Batman: Arkham Knight and Witcher 3 to receive post-release DX12 patch

And as we saw in Skyrim, modders will take full advantage of PCs tech superiority :D.

I don't think we'll be using 8GB with mods anytime soon. There aren't many cards that are over 4GB. Nvidia's current line focuses on 4GB, AMD will be doing the same.

There always will be people with a couple of TitanXs that will make extreme mods :P.

I am not pointing anyone. xD

(ps also the new GPUs from AMD and Nvidia rumors sayin that will have 8 and 6 GBs...)

AMD's GPUs will be 4GB but a 980 Ti being 6GB is very possible.
While there will always be people with a couple Titan X's, there will be always be us with "normal" cards :p
We're probably safe for another year, maybe a year and a half.

Well there is a rumor that 380X (290X rebrand) being 8GB. :P

But you should last more than a year and a half, since more and more games will use DX12 and your total VRAM will be 8GB.

Does this mean it will available in shops on the 2nd June? Or is that just the presentation. I imagine it would take shops approx. a week to receive these afterwards.

Hmmm... then maybe we might see some ninja benchmarks. I remember VideoCardZ did one last time, with the excuse that they travel forward in time and they came back and made the article. :P
