If only it was 4 months sooner... I would have bought it. But they waited to long and now they wont get any more money from me till next year. 35-40% increase over 970 isn't to shabby.

Don't!

Wait for the non-reference models.

These cards with non-reference coolers will be beasts!

They have plenty of room for OC:

I'm putting waterblocks on them, so I couldn't care less for aftermarket coolers.

Oh, then go for it cause I don't know if Nvidia will allow them to change the PCB too (in order to have better o/c potential).

Just bought two straight from Nvidia's site.

I'll get a third once I know the waterblocks to use and when Newegg/Amazon starts selling them.

There is always the temptation to upgrade. :) If I could get 144 fps @1440p in all games, it would be nice.

Built a new PC recently but rocking an old 6950. Got one of these on order for sure. Next up time for a 144hz monitor.

Was going to pick up a 970 but this looks too good to pass up being in so far behind with my current gpu.

I do wonder if nVidia and AMd will keep to the more or less current TDP or if they will be even lower. Sure 980 has lower than 680, which are both X04 chip, but 980Ti and 780/780Ti are full sized keep the 250W TDP.

@ShadowDeathX: Talking about water cooling...

Corsair Brings Liquid Cooling to Latest NVIDIA GeForce GPUs

Corsair, a world leader in high-performance PC hardware, today announced the all-in-one Hydro Series H110i GTX, the company's most advanced and customizable liquid CPU cooler yet, as well as new Hydro Series HG10 GPU cooling brackets for NVIDIA GeForce GTX Titan X, GTX 980, GTX 980 Ti and GTX 970 graphics cards.

The Hydro Series H110i GTX liquid CPU cooler pairs two 140mm fans with a 280mm radiator for extreme CPU cooling that is superior to stock CPU air coolers, delivering lower temperatures and quiet operations for both processor-intensive applications or light PC loads. The self-contained design of the H110i GTX makes it easier to install than stock air coolers and requires no filling or maintenance. The H110i GTX features a new generation, high-efficiency cooling block with a striking new look, including Titanium-colored logo inserts on the block and radiator. An optional kit with both red and blue inserts will be sold separately.

I don't get it, you could buy 2x 290s for 500$ and get better performance, why paying 650$ and get lower performance?

I know the advantages of single card vs SLI/Crossfire, I do know you'll need bigger PSU capacity and proper mid case with 5 fans - let's assume you have all of these already, I just don't see a reason to buy 980Ti.

That looks awesome. I've been thinking the DirectCU II was in need of a mix-up. But I wonder the three fan design will make for a long-but-thin style profile, much like Gigabyte cards.

I was reffering to stutter... SLI or Xfire cannot give smooth performance always as you can see in the image and they rely on drivers.

True.

But this is happening cause Nvidia is working hard on WHQL drivers (they just released one again...) which is vital for SLI.

I have 970 SLI with the gimped 3.5 GB VRAM and have yet to run into a problem in 1440p SLI. So, your 4GB 980 will be fine.

You just need a EK-FC Titan X - Acetal+Nickel and EK-FC Titan X Backplate - Black (maybe 2 EK-ACF Fitting 10/13mm - Elox Black too)!

And ofc Zotac's beast...

No way Jose', I'm already cutting it dangerously close to my VRAM limits at 1440P in games like GTA V and Shadow of Mordor, I'd very much like room to breathe so I don't feel obligated to buy new cards the second some new good looking games start rolling in.

@KHAndAnime: I am tempted to upgrade to 980 Ti SLI just because of the performance difference between a 970 and 980 Ti (40-50%). I would like to be gaming as close to 144 fps as possible in 1440p Ultra with all games. I am probably going to hold out until pascal though. Plus G-sync helps with the lower frame-rates. I never dip below 60 in any game though. If that was happening, I would be upgrading right away. I am such a graphics and frame-rate whore. lol

Even the performance difference between a 125% clocked GTX 980 Ti and my GTX 980 is very enticing (17.4k in Firestrike vs my 11.5k). Having two would be pretty damn future proof. After getting my new monitor, I definitely want as close to 144 FPS as possible too (with ultra settings :p).

Why would any body in their rite mind be buying these? DX12 is literally months away, and the next generation not iteration of cards is about to drop by the end of the year for at least amd and at the latest spring for nvidia. Expensive fucking card to be buying, when such a large leap in performance and efficiency is literally months away.

I haven't upgraded my GPUs (Trifire 7970) since 2012. Enough reason. Going to Tri-SLI 980 Tis. (2 of them come in tomorrow).

And I still think Pascal and "GCN 2.0" are at least a year away, if not more. I foresee a HBM2 yield problem.

A lot of people don't want AMD (like me). These cards run DX12. New generation of NVIDIA cards won't be out for a long while, and for all we know at this moment their performance increase will be similar to what we got with the 9 series (which was very decent).

And 1440P 144 FPS breh. Why wouldn't you want that?
