Great concept but horrible execution.

User Rating: 2.5 | Fort Zombie PC
I am a huge zombie buff I adore zombies. I own a ton of zombie things and found out about this game. I knew it was bad but it was only 10 dollars and I thought to myself "can it really be that bad?" Well yes the game is pretty bad.

STORY:

The story is you play as a deranged, dark, rocker type Gordon Freeman. Your goal is to survive a small rural town during a zombie uprising.

GAMEPLAY:

The gameplay in short is pretty bad. There is only one remotely interesting element in the game. That element is your base and your time. I will explain you have "X" amount of time before a "tsunami of zombies" hit the town. You need to pick from 3 buildings (prison, school, police station) what will be your base. After you fight your way through and clearing out your base you need to do 3 missions every day leading up to the "tsunami." Those missions are finding weapons, survivors, and supplies. You need all 3 to keep your base in good shape. You need weapons for defense, supplies to keep you and survivors in good health or power on in the base, and finding survivors helps you keep your base in better shape. You can assign them roles from repairing generators, being a doctor, and building barricades. The more people you have the better since you can't venture out at night that much and the more barricades the better. Now this sounds fun and compelling but the rest of the game really brings it down.

Now you still have the rest of the town to explore and this is where the game sucks. It is a Real time RPG like fallout3. Except this is no fallout 3 its pretty bad. Your character aims horribly if a zombie gets too close he shoots over their shoulders wasting precious ammo. Now some people might correct me and say "no that's because you need to better yourself with pistols or guns." Yet that's not the case in fort zombie. I understand you miss every now in then in this type of RPG fashion. Yet I noticed a trend the minute a zombie gets too close you shoot over them. Every time they get too close u miss and go over their shoulders. The game tells you to just run from zombies because you can't fight them all. Well even that the game fails at because the zombies will chase you like there is no tomorrow and get too close and he will shoot over their shoulder. There is also a search option you hold down the "F" key and a yellow circle grows around you. If there is any items they will glow and you can pick them up. The problem is you can see guns do the search thing and can't pick them up its very frustrating.

The friendly A.I. is also horrible its just awful. They will run into walls or just into zombies. You can bark orders at them but they just ignore you and keep running into walls. Do yourself a favor and keep them at the base when you rescue them.

The game also has a very awkward control scheme that you can't customize the right mouse button is basically your action button. It also controls your camera and overall not good at all. I hate the control scheme you will get used to it but trust me its annoying and really hinder you.

Finally the worst thing about the game that makes all these look like petty arguments is the bugs. The bugs in this game are just horrible from random crashes, to almost anything you can think of actually. The game loves to crash on me when I choose a mission to do. It is almost like clockwork every time I pick a mission the game just crashes. There are literally 1000's of complaints about the game. The game plays more like a unfinished prototype that a developer would consider a rough draft than a finished game. They claim they are on top of the bugs and slowly fixing them but there is just so many did they even bother to play test it?

GRAPHICS:

The Graphics aren't really the best. They are not considered good even if we took the game back in time to pre "next-gen." Your main character is the only detailed character and its still not that good. The game feels more like a flat plain with houses and that's it. You can actually see outside the map by looking out a window of a 2 story house.

AUDIO:

One word boring. There really is no audio there is no music or anything really. The guns and zombies and walking all have generic sound effects. Other than that there is no background music its just silence.

Pro's

Only 10 dollars, cool concept, organizing the base can be fun,can explore many houses (but they are empty and the same looking), nice variety of zombies, hope that another competent developer looks into this type of game because it would be amazing.

Con's

Audio, many many bugs from crashing to bad aiming, the controls are bad, zombies are relentless, if a zombie gets too close you will shoot over their shoulder, the graphics are bad, game barely explains how to play and non manual, you heal yourself when the day is over even if you carry a med pack with you at all times, just a broken and bad game seriously not worth 5 dollars.

OVERALL:

Overall the game is very disappointing. I always wanted a game with a concept like this. Yet the way this game handled it was just a mess. trust me just stay far away from this game as possible.
