As I went to play this game, I thought it was going to be a Twisted Metal imitator. Kind of is, but mad fun!

I got the game really early for free (I got connections; yes, the full game). I wasn' really expecting much, maybe just a game to kill an hour of my time. Boy was I wrong. This game is actually worth to buy if you're a fan of Twisted Metal of any other car-combat game. This game is EXCITING. When you turn at every corner and there's a humvee or tank waiting to blast you in the air. It is kind of a free roaming game (not quite) where you have to find green "checkpoints" to receive certain objectives. The maps aren't huge either.
Now for the flaws of the game. Fired up is kind of repetitive... You go to a checkpoint and it tells you to blow something or things up; or you go around collecting stars for weapon upgrades (stars are scattered around the map, whether on a road or an top of a building; it is kind of fun to figure out how to get on top of a certain building or how to get the right jump to obtain one of the stars). There are also "Fired Up" moments (when you're on a "killing streak". Example: you've killed 4 cars. You're going to be told to kill 6 more in 60 seconds. Most of the missions have you blowing up vehicles or getting weapons to blow up more vehicles.
The graphics are above average. The resolution of the buildings are blurry until you get close enough, and then they "shift" to become clearer. When there are multiple cars on the screen, the game runs at a good frame rate. The controls are catchy and you'll get them in no time. The story's interesting enough, but don't expect a story that blows Metal Gear Solid out of the way. The AI is kind of stupid sometimes... I've seen cars just sit there shooting their weak turrets waiting to get blown out into space with your missiles. Ok, it doesn't happen sometimes. It happens A LOT of times. Good thing there are many cars that chase after you (I've been chased by 10 cars at a time, a lot of times), or else the game would've been too easy...
Now for the fun part: multiplayer. Gather some of your PSP buddies, whether they have the game or not, because the game features "game sharing". Just make sure they have room on their memory sticks. It's thrilling as you go around the city blowing your friends up. Don't take my word for it, try it yourself. Words can't describe how fun the multiplayer is. Too bad there isn't an ad-hoc mode like in Twisted Metal... too bad...
In conclusion, the games worth the buy if your looking for a great action game or if your bored of your Twisted Metal: head on. It's definitely one of the better PSP games out. If you don't trust me, rent the game and see how fun it is. Just don't play the game 10 hours straight... It gets boring. Play it in short bursts. Lucky for me, I got this great game for free... Yay! It's mad fun and thats all I need.
