Do you have to play the first one for the story line to make sense? Or is it an entirely new one?
@vicarandrew It's entirely self contained, so no previous experience with the series is needed.

Heidi Kemps pairs up with Fire Emblem: Awakening in this video review.

This and Monster Hunter are the reasons why I just ordered a 3DS XL (already have a DS but usually stick to Sony consoles). Probably won't get any other games for it ever.
@trollkind I'm tempted but having trouble getting The Final Fantasy remakes from DS iii & iv, either they are counterfeits or not in stock anywhere : /
Also a non counterfeit GBA version of Zelda a link to the past would be great except i cant trust second hand games anymore and they are not offered on the eStore :(
What to do ?
This game is just fantastic there are no other JRPG tactics games that could hold up to it but Tactics Orge
@baxwam Tactics Ogre is completely different, plus FF: Tactics is better than Ogre, though, they are close.
Excellent article.
Sometimes I wish the comments sections of this site weren't so filled with illiterate, prejudiced, and overly outspoken children. Perhaps then there wouldn't be a need for (the admittedly very funny!!) Feedbackula show!
If people were forced to voice their opinions openly, and not hide behind childish usernames and poorly spelled comments, I would like to hope that they would think twice before writing such offensive and hurtful things about someone they don't know, who has crafted a well written and thought-provoking article about a game's treatment of its main characters.
Grid based, turn based, strategy RPG. Damn, and it started so well. My 3DS catalog really needs a new addition. I just can't see anything I think YES! I really must go out and buy that. Glad I spent so much on my 3DS now, been sat on my desk for months.
Lulz. You came here for Tey Pokemonz when this is Fire Emblemz.
the review started, and a few seconds later an orchestrated Fir emblem theme starts playing. I got chills hearing this.
I think I'll have to get a 3DS now...
Haven't played Fire Emblem since Path of Radiance on Gamecube, and I just can't get over how amazingly epic that game was. So waiting for this now! When is it coming to EU?
Ever since the Fire Emblem series got off it's arse and came to the US on the Gameboy (EDIT: GBA) I have been a big fan.
This game though... Is so ******** hard I want to throw my 3ds at the wall... and I am not that kind of gamer AT ALL. I never have had this issue with a game, EVER...
Still it's nice to have a challenge, everything is so easy these days.
Just wish it wasn't hair pullingly frustrating how hard it was.
@VenkmanPHD There is difficulty levels. Also, if normal is still hard you may want to use relationships. 2 champs attacking over 1 is stronger. Not taking damage is better. Using the right attacks vs the right units. This is a strat game you know.
Nice move Nintendo, now i might just get a 3DS after all.
If only i can rent one just for this game... =P
Well as a fan of FE games I very happy with this review. The FE games have come very far. Keep up the great reviews GS!!
Just wanted to say, I think this was a really great review. I'm currently playing a fan dub of FE 6 and I can't wait for Awakening.
always wanted to play a Fire Emblem game....but it just never happened...maybe this is the time
At first as like every other person I was a bit upset at the score of 8.5. Until I watched this review. It really makes sense to why it got an 8.5 from Gamespot. I still personally give it a 9.5 but do see why it was given an 8.5. Great review.
@Aerialslayer 8.5 is very, very good. If they handed out 9.5 and 10 for every great game, their scores would be entirely meaningless.
Yup, downloaded the demo thinking it would just be an alright game but once the first battle started I was amazed by how much fun it was to play and then I actually didn't want it to end. :(
downloading it tomorrow hopefully:P
damn why why I wish they could port others
More like this is the only reason that I would like to buy a 3DS...sadly I got no money
Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn also had relationship bonuses when characters stand next to each other and gain stat boosts. This isn't a first
Whoa! Then why is it selling really well and why are developers making games JUST for the 3DS and not the Vita? Seems Nintendo is doing something right with it that Sony isn't.
I still don't understand why you then come to a 3DS page just to post that one line.
actually I cant even remember the last good rpg for xbox... why???
the last best rpg's were tales of vesperia and eternal sonata...
@binderdundat you mean JRPG?
I am moreof a sony fan, but TW2, DS and Skyrim are the best RPGs of this gen(all available for the 360...
@evil-zodiark @binderdundat yeah jrpg's, i consider skyrim and dark souls action rpgs, I like those games but they dont have much of a story.
Both of those were amazing (thinking about replaying Eternal Sonata since I originally played it on the PS3, kind of scared though since one of my favorite characters was Serenade and she was a PS3 exclusive). I also personally really loved Blue Dragon and Lost Odyseey, also had a lot of fun with Star Ocean: The Last Hope. The 360 initially had a good selection of JRPGs. The only one I haven't tried out yet that I'm interested in is Resonance of Fate.
@abHS4L88 @binderdundat lost odysee looks really cool, how did i miss that game. thanks
@abHS4L88 @binderdundat no i havent played it yet, looking forward to it. Ill check out your review.
Have you played it yet? If not I just wrote a review on it on my page. It's kind of a tie with Tales of Vesperia as my favorite JRPG from the 360.
