Final Fantasy was the start of what is arguably Square Enix's most popular franchise to date. This is the humble game that started the series that we as consumers and fans, have come to expect quality RPG gaming in each new iteration. This game features the 4 Warriors of Light (who each can be assigned a class by the player) who are tasked with saving the world. This charming and simple story seems to be one that is rather stereotypical and yet, you continue playing. Without revealing key points of the story, it does take a very interesting turn towards the end that will leave you thinking it as a wonder for its time, and one that has stood the test of time. Gameplay is also simple, involving adventuring around the world, sometimes on land, other times on water. The moment you are able to traverse the seas for the first time is truly a wonderful thing as suddenly you are able to traverse the world as you wish, returning to the story when you finish exploring. Battle is turn based which works well with no glitches seen whilst I played through. The only things that will hinder players in their enjoyment are the following issues. Age, this game was revolutionary at the time, but in terms of innovation and graphics by today's standards it will leave some with much to be desired. It also does not tell you where to go – which to some may be confusing. Over all, this game is a real gem and deserved to be played even today.
